Mark Madsen has joined Mike D'Antoni's staff with the Lakers as an assistant coach.
Hopefully, he's a better coach than a dancer. Madsen was a two-time NBA champion with the Lakers, but he wasn't exactly an impact player. Eight weeks ago, he was named the head coach of the D-League affiliate, the LA D-Fenders, but he'll join the big club to help the team's big men. Thu, Jun 27, 2013 04:35:00 PM

Mark Madsen has been named head coach of the D-Fenders, the Lakers D-League team.

Yes, that Mark Madsen. He'll take over the team as head coach, but there's no word if he'll bring his towel-waving skills and iconic dancing to the sidelines.

The Clippers waived veteran forward Mark Madsen on Friday.

Madsen was sent to L.A. in a late July trade involving Quentin Richardson, but he wasn't going to crack the rotation anyway. The Clippers have trimmed their roster to 12 players, giving them plenty of flexibility to make moves throughout the season.

As part of the Sebastian Telfair for Quentin Richardson trade, Mark Madsen and his contract are flying to Los Angeles.

If history holds he probably won't be doing any victory dances with this LA team (much to everyone's relief).

Coach Kevin McHale will start an all-veteran lineup of Kevin Ollie, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Jason Collins and Mark Madsen in Wednesday's finale against the Kings.

"They’ve been great all year long," McHale said. "I just wanted to give them a chance to start out there together."

Mark Madsen started at center for the Timberwolves on Saturday, but was held scoreless in 15 minutes of play.

Madsen will never have fantasy value, and even the Timberwolves seemed to realize early in this game that starting him was a mistake.

Mark Madsen played for the first time since offseason shoulder surgery and failed to score.

No fantasy value here, but he could get some run with Theo Ratliff out.

Mark Madsen (right shoulder) took part in his first full-contact practice of the season, but still is probably two weeks away from a return to game action.

He'll likely back up Theo Ratliff when he's healthy, giving him no shot at offering fantasy value.

Mark Madsen said he is progressing well from surgery on his right shoulder and pectoral muscle and estimated he will return to action in "probably five or six weeks."

"It's tough to not be out there with the guys, but I'm doing my best to learn the plays, the new plays that (coach) Randy Wittman's putting in, and staying in shape running on the side," Madsen said Friday. Madsen was injured in August during an accident on a personal watercraft.

Timberwolves forward Mark Madsen underwent successful right shoulder surgery, the team announced Friday, four days after he was injured in a boating accident.

"This was an unfortunate accident that I have put behind me. My focus now is to concentrate on my rehabilitation with the goal of returning to the basketball court as quickly as possible," Madsen said in a statement issued by the team. He will be sidelined up to three months, meaning the team is hoping more than ever that Theo Ratliff will be ready to back up starter Mark Blount on opening night.

Forward Mark Madsen tweaked a hamstring in the first half of Sunday's game and sat out the rest of the way.

He should not be on fantasy rosters in the first place and is day-to-day.

Mark Madsen returned from a sprained ankle for Friday's loss to Miami and played for three minutes.

So much for using him in rotation against Shaquille O'Neal. It remains to be seen whether he aggravated his injury, but Madsen has no fantasy value either way.

After missing six games because of a left ankle sprain, Mark Madsen is set to return Friday when he'll be used in the rotation against Heat center Shaquille O'Neal.

Coach Randy Wittman figures to play Madsen a good bit if Madsen's ankle feels good today after taking part in a full practice Thursday. "We don't have many other choices," Wittman said. "So yeah, Mark is going to play." He should have no fantasy value, but will help the Wolves get through tonight's game against Shaq.
