Pau Gasol's deal with the Spurs is $48 million over three seasons.
That number is much higher than expected, especially for someone who recently turned 37. However, there is just a partial guarantee on the third season. Gasol averaged a career-low 25.6 minutes per game last season and that's unlikely to go up much with the Spurs bringing in Rudy Gay to play some PF. Fantasy owners also have to worry about him resting late in the season. Unless you can grab him late, Gasol won't be a recommended fantasy target. Jul 25 - 11:56 AM

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol has agreed on a three-year deal to return to the Spurs.

There is only a partial guarantee on the third year of this deal for the Spaniard. It's a nice deal for the 37-year-old big man, and he should be in a similar role. There was some talk of the Spurs going smaller with Rudy Gay (Achilles) now in the mix, but now they'll have to work in LaMarcus Aldridge and Gasol to their frontcourt rotation.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

The Spurs are reportedly working to finalize a deal with unrestricted free agent Pau Gasol.

Gasol opted out of his contract back in June, but he did that to free up cap space for the Spurs, and the narrative has always been that he would eventually re-up with San Antonio on a long-term deal. Gasol was a top-75 option with the Spurs last season despite only playing 25.4 minutes a night, contributing averages of 12.4 points, 7.8 boards, 2.4 dimes, 0.9 triples and 1.1 blocks per contest. However, we'll likely see a slight regression in those numbers during his age-37 season.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol said he still has plenty left in the tank at the age of 37.

He also added that he's hoping to re-sign with the Spurs after recently declining his $16.2 million option for 2017-18. "I want to play the maximum number of seasons, as long as I feel good," he said. "I have played 16-years in the NBA and I hope to play some more, but I have to keep working and respect any injuries, as I have so far." Gasol only played 25.4 minutes per game in San Antonio last season and made just 64 appearances, so he won't be a recommended fantasy target next season if he returns to the Spurs.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Adrian Wojnarowski‏ of The Vertical is reporting that Pau Gasol will decline his $16.2 million option for 2017-18, but intends to work with the Spurs on a longer term deal to remain in San Antonio.

Gasol declining his player option gives the Spurs finical flexibility to pursue attractive free agents this summer. Woj adds that the plan is for Gasol to return to San Antonio on a multi-year deal, but at a smaller annual salary. Exactly how much money Pau is willing to sacrifice is unknown at this point. Gasol averaged just 25.4 minutes per game last season (he had previously never averaged fewer than 31 minutes a night). As a result, he posted career-lows in points (12.4) and assists (2.3).

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol came off the bench against the Warriors on Saturday, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers in 21 minutes.

It was a mild surprise to see Davis Bertans and David Lee come in before Gasol, but Lee's injury may have brought Gasol in for more time than expected. With Lee likely out and LaMarcus Aldridge not playing well, maybe Gasol is looking at more minutes for Game 4.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored five points with two rebounds, one assists, one block, one steal and five fouls in 16 minutes against the Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday.

He was in foul trouble, but this just isn't his series. The Spurs surprisingly went with several two-big lineups for most of this game, but keep in mind Andre Iguodala was limited to prevent some of the deadly small-ball combos. While Gasol didn't play well, the Spurs did play well with some lineups consisting of David Lee and LaMarcus Aldridge. Don't expect Gasol to crack 20 minutes too often in this series.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Patty Mills, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol will start against the Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday.

The Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge combos didn't fare well against the Rockets, so coach Gregg Popovich may not go too heavy today. It does make sense to start Gasol and have him log most of his minutes against Zaza Pachulia, though. Gasol has played 24.2 minutes per game in the postseason so far, but there's a decent chance that number goes slightly down in this series.
May 14 - 2:18 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol moved into the Spurs' starting lineup during Game 2, snaring a game-high 13 rebounds with six points on 3-of-11 shooting, three assists, four blocks and one steal.

Gasol was effective in Game 1 but he didn't get many minutes due to the lopsided score. He took over for David Lee tonight in his first start since Jan. 17, and was deceptively efficient in 29 minutes -- six of his boards came on the offensive glass, and he helped San Antonio dominate the rebound battle with a 47-32 advantage.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol will start Game 2 on Wednesday in place of David Lee.

Lee was held to four points in 29 minutes during the Spurs' blowout loss in Game 1, while Pau posted a nice all-around line in just 22 minutes off the bench. San Antonio will look for a much different start tonight, after falling behind by 30 points by halftime on Monday.
May 3 - 7:51 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol reached 20,000 points for his career on Wednesday, coming off the bench for 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds and one steal.

The Spurs will take on the Grizzlies in the first round, so there will be some fraternal warfare between the Gasol brothers, even though Pau won't be starting at center. Gregg Popovich played all of his key guys solid minutes tonight, to keep them ready for Game 1 of the first round at 8pm on Saturday.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol made just two of his 10 field-goal attempts in Monday's road loss against the Trail Blazers, finishing with seven points, 13 rebounds and a blocked shot.

His shooting was atrocious, but at least he salvaged the stat line for fantasy owners with his high amount of boards and a blocked shot. Despite the fact he played four less minutes than started Dewayne Dedmon he was still far more valuable from a fantasy perspective. That's been the case most of the season.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 15 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday.

After the game, Gasol said the Spurs need to work on their rhythm as a team and the team reacted late in the second half. Even though the Spurs having nothing to play for, expect for Gasol to be out there the rest of the way. Gasol also said he "loved" the idea of not getting rest.
Apr 8 - 11:25 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol (rest) will not play against the Mavs on Friday.

Somewhat surprisingly, this will be Gasol's first game off since he returned from a hand injury on Feb. 24. Gasol has transformed into an excellent shooter since his return, making 1.5 treys per game at 60.0 percent from beyond the arc. With Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge out, it'll be David Lee, Davis Bertans and Dewayne Dedmon carrying most of the burden up front. We might see some Joel Anthony, as well.
Apr 6 - 4:20 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 17 points with four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 28 minutes against the Thunder on Friday.

Did he have something magical put into his hand from the surgery to make him a better 3-point shooter? Since returning, Gasol has made an absurd 29-of-47 from deep (61.7 percent). What's more, he's made 10-of-11 in the corner during that span. That wrinkle will make it even tougher to defend the Spurs and their ball movement, but keep an eye out for rest going forward.
