Pau Gasol (knees) confirmed he won't play for Spain in this summer's Eurobasket.
Gasol underwent a procedure to clean out his knees on May 9 and won't resume basketball activities for 12 weeks. His priority is to be healthy for the 2013/14 NBA season, not international competition. Gasol will turn 33 years old in July and is becoming an increasingly large medical risk for fantasy owners. Pau Gasol's (knees) procedure involved a probe being inserted into Gasol's knees.

The procedure called for ultrasound wavelengths to "debride degenerated tissue of his patellar tendons," and the next step will be to receive "autologous stem-cell injections next week to stimulate regeneration of the tissue." After missing eight games with tendinitis in the knees, Gasol is hopeful this will allow him to return to full strength before the start of next season.

Pau Gasol will be able to resume basketball activities in 12 weeks after undergoing dual procedures on his knees Thursday.

Gasol will apparently receive stem cell injections in the knees next week to stimulate regeneration of the tissue the FAST procedure treated. A 12-week timetable would put Gasol back on the court sometime during early August, which means he'll have plenty of time to get in shape for training camp. Of course, which team's camp that will be remains a mystery at this point.

Pau Gasol underwent a successful procedure on his knees on Thursday.

This comes as expected. Gasol will now rehab and rest his knees as he prepares for next season, but it's still to be determined if that will be with the Lakers.

Pau Gasol will undergo a procedure Thursday to eliminate scar tissue in both of his knees.

Gasol, who suffers from tendonosis in both knees, will go through a procedure called FAST Technique, which uses an ultrasonic energy probe to treat the scar tissue. The procedure doesn't sound serious and it's unlikely this will affect Gasol's ability to be ready for training camp. The Lakers said they won't know a timetable for Gasol's return until after the procedure is completed.

The Lakers' "Plan A" this summer is to keep Pau Gasol and maintain the core of their current roster, according to Mark Heisler.

Gasol has an expiring $19.3 million contract which the Lakers were widely expected to shop around, but it's anybody's guess how L.A.'s summer will play out. Kobe is recovering from Achilles surgery, Metta World Peace has a $7.7 million early-termination option, and three key frontcourt players are heading into unrestricted free agency -- Dwight Howard, Earl Clark and Antawn Jamison.

Pau Gasol said he would "prefer" to be back with the Lakers.

Gasol's contract expires after next season and coach Mike D'Antoni has repeatedly said he prefers to play with just one true big. So if the Lakers re-sign unrestricted free agent Dwight Howard, Gasol could very well find himself on the trading block. "I'm prepared if I am not (back with the Lakers)," Gasol conceded. Heading into his age-33 season, the Spaniard is no longer a piece a franchise can build around.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Lakers

Pau Gasol admitted that "there's a possibility" he's played his final game with the Lakers.

For all of the heat Gasol took earlier in the season, he played very well down the stretch of the regular season, and his relationship with Kobe Bryant figures to be factored into the front office's thinking and planning during the offseason. Gasol said he'd be "surprised" if there weren't any changes, and he also revealed it was "hard to be more vocal" because he was a "third, fourth, fifth option" on this team. If the Lakers re-sign Dwight Howard, Gasol's name will show up in trade rumors again.

Pau Gasol tore a ligament in his right middle finger, and he plans to play with a splint to protect it in Game 4 on Sunday.

The Lakers have been absolutely decimated by injuries and there's no other way to say it. With Gasol also revealing that he's not at full strength with his knees and is considering an offseason procedure to regenerate tissue, he's now also playing with a bad finger on his shooting hand. The Lakers season has been one injury after another and Los Angeles simply can't catch a break.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Lakers

Pau Gasol said he has tendinitis in both of his knees and is considering a trip to Europe to regenerate the tissue during the offseason.

He is likely thinking about an orthokine treatment, which Kobe made famous with a trip to Germany. Gasol has been dealing with a slew of injuries this year after only missing one game in his previous two seasons. He will be the only starter on Sunday that is not a free agent and should come back in better shape to start the 2013-14 season.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Lakers

Pau Gasol posted a big double-double in Sunday's loss to the Spurs with 16 points and 16 boards in a team-high 43 minutes.

He added six assists, two steals and six turnovers. Gasol was the focal point on offense and the Lakers were even running pick-and-rolls with Gasol as the ball-handler. He has been one of the best big men in the past decade, but going up against the Spurs without Kobe Bryant is perhaps too tall of an order.

The Lakers could save more than $60 million in luxury taxes if the team used its amnesty provision on Pau Gasol in the offseason.

Despite the savings, it's an extremely unlikely scenario for a variety of reasons. The Lakers would be paying Gasol to walk away from the team (which makes no sense), and Gasol has proven that he's not over the hill in any sense of the phrase. His expiring contract could be dangled as a trade chip assuming the Lakers re-sign Dwight Howard, but it's far too early to speculate on the team's offseason plans with so much still up in the air. We wouldn't bet on Gasol being waived via the amnesty clause.

Pau Gasol triple-doubled with 17 points, 20 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocks on 7-of-17 shooting in Wednesday's dramatic OT win over Houston to end the NBA's regular season.

Gasol was a beast tonight and has figured out how to play with Dwight Howard, and without Kobe Bryant. The Lakers vs. Spurs is a highly intriguing matchup and should be a great battle to watch unfold. Pau finished in a flurry, racking up both of this season's triple-doubles in two of his final three games.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Lakers

Pau Gasol is "long recovered" from the plantar fascia tear in his right foot from earlier in the season.

However, Gasol did say that his surgically-repaired foot felt "very sore" on Monday, which is expected given the team had just played Sunday and Gasol is now playing major minutes once again. Expect Gasol to play as much as he possibly he can on Wednesday with the Lakers fighting for their postseason lives.
Apr 17 - 9:01 AM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Lakers

Pau Gasol grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked three shots vs. the Spurs on Sunday, but he scored just seven points on 3-of-17 shooting.

L.A. is leaning heavily on Pau's playmaking skills these days, and we hoped for more than two assists, but he was due for a relatively quiet night after dominating for the past few weeks. His owners are probably laughing all the way to a fantasy championship, assuming they survived his 33 DNPs throughout the season.
