Gregg Popovich again stated on Wednesday that he expects Pau Gasol (hand) to be cleared to return to action after the All-Star break.
Gasol was spotted going through some light shooting drills on Wednesday, and it sounds likely that he'll be back in action after the break. Gasol is having a down year in San Antonio with just seventh-round value on the season, but he's still worth owning just about everywhere. His return to the court will seriously cut into the value of David Lee, Dewayne Dedmon and Davis Bertans. Feb 15 - 6:41 PM

Pau Gasol (hand) ran on an anti-gravity treadmill on Friday.

He has been able to do some on-court drills as well. In the picture posted on Twitter, Gasol didn't appear to have a cast on his hand and there was still some scarring from the surgery. He has a chance to play next week, but it'll likely be right after the break. It makes sense to stash him.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol (broken hand) has been able to do some shooting, dribbling and passing drills.

He's still not cleared for contact, but he's hoping to be cleared before the four-week mark of his timetable. That would be during the All-Star break, so we could see him return as soon as Feb. 24 against the Clippers. Gasol's fantasy value has taken a hit in San Antonio this season, but he's certainly worth stashing if your team is a lock to make the fantasy playoffs. His return will decrease the value of David Lee, Dewayne Dedmon and Davis Bertans.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol (broken hand) could possibly return prior to the All-Star break, although it still sounds like after the break is the more realistic outlook.

"They tell me that maybe if at the beginning of All-Star break, maybe somewhere around there he can play a game, or when we return he should be able to go," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I am guessing probably after the break he should be ready to go." Gasol has been staying in shape and doing conditioning, so once he's cleared medically, he should be ready for NBA action. He was pretty inconsistent prior to the injury, making him frustrating to own, but he definitely has some fantasy value left in the tank once he's ready to go.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Coach Gregg Popovich said the training staff told him Pau Gasol (hand) should be ready to go after the All-Star break.

Back on Jan. 20, he was expected to miss 4-6 weeks with his fractured fourth metacarpal. That means the Spurs are likely expecting him to be back right in the middle of that time frame with what looks like a target date of Feb. 24 against the Clippers. Furthermore, Gasol would only be missing eight more games due to the All-Star Game. While he may be limited upon his return, it's not a bad idea to stash him for those with a cushion in the standings.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol (left hand) is undergoing surgery to repair the fracture of his fourth metacarpal.

Typically, a metacarpal fracture surgery will require 4-6 weeks out of action. Gasol suffered this injury in warmups and now his fantasy owners will have to figure out whether or not he's worth a stash. Considering how the Spurs are likely to rest him even more upon his return, he certainly is a cut candidate for those that need stats for the next month. With him out, it figures to be mostly David Lee picking up the minutes, but Dewayne Dedmon's blocking upside makes him interesting in standard leagues. We should see more Davis Bertans, as well.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

The Spurs have yet to issue a formal timeline for Pau Gasol (hand), who is out indefinitely after breaking his left ring finger during pregame warmups Thursday night.

The team said there was no timeline for Gasol's return as of Thursday. "We're going to look at it [Friday]," coach Gregg Popovich said, "but he's going to be out for a while." It turns out that Gasol got hurt when he jammed his left hand against Kyle Anderson's shoulder while attempting a running hook. He left the court clutching his left hand before the national anthem. David Lee started in place of Gasol on Thursday and payed well, finishing with 10 points and 16 rebounds in 33 minutes. Dewayne Dedmon scored seven points in 19 minutes off the bench.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol stated that he does not intent to exercise his player option, preferring to stay in San Antonio for the 2017-18 season.

Gasol signed a two-year, $30 million contract with the Spurs. The second year of the deal is a player option worth $16 million. "My intention is to continue here, and to be here as long as I can," Gasol said. This interview was given before Gasol fractured his hand in pre-game warmups on Thursday. We are still awaiting for an official timeline regarding how long Gasol will be sidelined. It is worth noting that Kawhi Leonard suffered the same injury (a fractured fourth metacarpal) during the 2013-14 season, and missed 14 games because of the injury.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol broke the fourth metacarpal in his left hand in pregame warmups on Thursday and will likely be out indefinitely.

It's hard to believe this happened before the game started, but also explains why he headed to the locker room with David Lee starting in his place. If he's going to miss extended time, which it sounds like he will, Lee, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dewayne Dedmon would all see a boost in fantasy value. The Spurs say that a timeline for Gasol's return will be determined at a later date.
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

David Lee is starting for Pau Gasol against the Nuggets on Thursday.

It's unclear what happened to Gasol, but he may have hurt his finger going through layup lines. He went back to the locker room, so we'll be looking for an update. Stay tuned.
Jan 19 - 8:41 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol played just 17 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Wolves, scoring three points with five rebounds, one assist and one turnover.

Incredibly, Gasol had the highest offensive rating in the NBA in his previous 10 games despite scoring in single digits in four of them. He was coming off a three-point dud on Saturday vs. the Suns, but his owners can expect him to bounce back on Thursday vs. the Nuggets -- Gasol scored 17 points with nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks vs. Denver on Jan. 5.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol made all nine of his attempts from the field for 22 points against the Lakers on Thursday, adding nine rebounds, six assists and one block in 26 minutes.

Revenge game? Gasol was coming in as cold as maybe ever with only 11 points combined in his previous two games. The last time he made all of his field goals was in 2010 when he made all 10 for 28 points as a Laker -- he's also gone 5-0 in his five perfect FGA games. The Spurs don't have a back-to-back until Jan. 23-24, but you can bet Gasol will sit in one of those. Until then, start him.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol said he's not expecting to be an All-Star this season.

"It’s not about me having the best individual year, or having individual awards," Gasol said. "It’s just team success. I didn’t come here with that type of mindset." Gasol's numbers are down across the board, but that was always the expectation playing next to Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. The 36-year-old is returning top-70 value in standard leagues with averages of 11.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks, but hopefully he isn't rested too much down the stretch.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored five points with five rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and one 3-pointer in 20 minutes against the Hornets on Saturday.

Davis Bertans actually took minutes from Pau tonight. The Hornets knew how to defend Pau in this game and he didn't make his first field goal until the second half. "They just pack the paint," said Gasol. The Spurs will manage the future Hall of Fame big man at some point, but he is still worth owning despite some sub-par outings.
Jan 8 - 12:30 AM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 17 points with nine rebound, four assists, three blocks and one 3-pointer in 34 minutes on Thursday against the Nuggets.

Gasol bounced back nicely after a five-point game against the Raptors on Tuesday. The Spurs host the Hornets on Saturday, who are giving up 19.9 point and 15.1 rebounds to opposing centers. He did struggle against them earlier in the season, but could take advantage of the matchup this time around as the Hornets could be without Cody Zeller (concussion).
