If the Warriors are unable to nab Kevin Durant via free agency, they will reportedly try and retain Harrison Barnes while adding a proven big man like Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, David West or Timofey Mozgov.
Mozgov is a rather odd name to appear on this list, but all the rest of the other guys make sense. The Spurs will also be in pursuit of Gasol, but the Dubs probably offer him the most realistic shot at competing for a championship, as he'd be a major upgrade to Andrew Bogut. Noah would likely be a backup with the Dubs, as would West, and neither of those guys would have much value. Free agency kicks off on July 1. Jun 28 - 6:35 PM

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol will reportedly be a free agency priority for the San Antonio Spurs.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports Gasol is at the top of the Spurs free agency wish list after he decided not to pick up his player option with the Bulls. While the Spurs will likely have competition for Gasol, they offer the 35-year-old an opportunity to win so it wouldn't be a huge shock to see him sign with San Antonio. We'll keep an eye on Gasol when free agency begins on July 1, but joining the Spurs wouldn't necessarily be a great thing for his fantasy value.

Pau Gasol will not pick up his player option and will be an unrestricted free agent.

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. Gasol is likely to be targeted by the Knicks, which would be a great landing spot for him. He likely won't be back with the Bulls with the team looking to change its identity.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat are discussing Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard as alternatives to Hassan Whiteside if the big man departs in free agency.

There really isn't much to take away from this report until if and/or when Whiteside actually makes a decision. If Miami loses him, they'll go back to the drawing board to determine which—if any—of the aforementioned big men could be the best fit for the new team they're (again) trying to build.

Pau Gasol announced that he will play for Spain in the Olympics this summer, but Serge Ibaka said that he will not participate.

Gasol was considering skipping the Olympics due to concerns over the Zika virus, so this is great news for Spain. "My commitment to the national team is greater than my fears over what might happen," Gasol said in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca. "My feelings of passion and responsibility toward my national team, my sport and my teammates are huge." This will be Gasol's fourth time competing in the Olympics, and Spain is expected to announce their final roster on Monday.

Pau Gasol is considering skipping the Olympics due to fears over the Zika virus.

Gasol cited uncertainty about the situation and cautioned anyone participating to "think about" the risk involved. "It wouldn't surprise me to see some athletes deciding not to participate in the games to avoid putting their health and the health of their families at risk," Gasol said. "We need to understand the seriousness of the situation. I feel responsible to know more about the situation and to inform everyone about it."

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol said he'd like to return to the Bulls in free agency, but is open to other offers.

While Gasol said he'd like to return to the Bulls, he also said he'd like to be in a position where he can win. "I have to wait for offers," Gasol said. "I try to keep an open mind about this. The good thing is this summer the offers can be very attractive and there’s going to be a lot of teams that can pitch interesting proposals." With the Bulls potentially rebuilding, it's very possible that we see Gasol with a new team next season after he officially opts out of his deal.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, Pau Gasol said that the Spurs would be an "interesting option" in free agency this summer.

"There’s talk about passing of the torch with San Antonio and a hypothetical passing of the torch with [Tim] Duncan," Gasol said. "For starters, nobody knows if Tim is retiring and he’s somebody whom I have maximum respect for. In closing, I have to admit the Spurs would be an interesting option for me." The Bulls took a massive risk by not dealing Gasol at the trade deadline, and there's a good chance that he leaves Chicago this summer in the pursuit of another ring. To be clear, a move to San Antonio wouldn't be great for his fantasy value.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Marc Gasol said his advice for Pau Gasol would be for him to go to San Antonio at this stage of his career.

Interesting. The Bulls are looking less likely to re-sign Pau and could see some changes. If Gasol does go to the Spurs, they would be loaded up front, assuming Tim Duncan hangs around. Gasol would lose fantasy value with a change.

Pau Gasol (right knee) is done for the regular season.

He'll have another MRI on his troublesome knee, which has been swelling up after games, and it's possible a surgical procedure could be on the table dependent upon what the examination shows. With Gasol done and Taj Gibson (ribs) out for the season, Cristiano Felicio—who exploded for 16 points, five boards and two blocks on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting on Saturday while closing out a win over Cleveland—will get an extended opportunity to show what he can contribute in plus matchups vs. New Orleans and Philadelphia. Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic should get some more run, as well. Obviously, Gasol can be dropped everywhere.
Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol is expected to explore free agency this offseason, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

The Bulls and Gasol had both publicly stated a previous commitment to each other, but as the season has progressed each party has cooled on the idea of a potential return. According to Johnson, Chicago's new free-agent focus is to re-sign Joakim Noah (shoulder), and it sounds like there is more than a decent chance Gasol—who revitalized his career with the Bulls—winds up moving on.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol said that the Bulls didn't play with a "sense of urgency" this season.

Gasol has been pretty critical of the Bulls recently, and it sounds like the chances of him re-signing with Chicago this summer are very slim. In fact, recent reports have indicated that the Bulls have shifted their focus towards re-signing Joakim Noah instead. The Bulls will be eliminated from playoff contention if the Pacers beat the Nets on Sunday, so Gasol may not play again this season if Indiana wins like they're supposed to. It's going to be an interesting summer for the Bulls.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol double-doubled vs. the Cavaliers on Saturday, scoring 11 points with 12 boards, one assist, one steal and one block in 25 minutes.

Cristiano Felicio outplayed him off the bench, so Gasol didn't play much down the stretch. The Bulls must win their last two games of the season and will need the Pacers to lose all three of their remaining games for Chicago to reach the postseason, so it's possible that Gasol played his last game as a Bull tonight if the Pacers beat the Nets on Sunday. Gasol isn't sure what he will do in free agency this summer, but recent reports have indicated that the Bulls have shifted their focus towards re-siging Joakim Noah instead of Gasol.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol said he has not decided if he will stay with the Bulls when he hits free agency this summer.

"Nothing is set right now," Gasol said after Thursday's loss. "Definitely, I will evaluate what I need to when the time comes. But the way the team has responded to adversity and the way we finished up the season has not been so far great, and it's been disappointing. So at the end of the day, when the time comes, I will evaluate things." The Bulls took a risk by keeping Gasol through the trade deadline, and now they could lose him for nothing in free agency.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Bulls

Pau Gasol racked up 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, one steal and two blocks in 34 minutes vs. the Bucks, hitting 7-of-11 shots including a 3-pointer.

Pau was just 39.1 percent from the field in his previous four games, so the efficiency tonight was a welcome sight. Any restrictions following his recent knee injury appear to have been lifted, as he played 34 minutes in back-to-back games this weekend, and he's poised for a big three-game week as Chicago tries to keep their playoff hopes alive.
