Adrian Wojnarowski‏ of The Vertical is reporting that Pau Gasol will decline his $16.2 million option for 2017-18, but intends to work with the Spurs on a longer term deal to remain in San Antonio.
Gasol declining his player option gives the Spurs finical flexibility to pursue attractive free agents this summer. Woj adds that the plan is for Gasol to return to San Antonio on a multi-year deal, but at a smaller annual salary. Exactly how much money Pau is willing to sacrifice is unknown at this point. Gasol averaged just 25.4 minutes per game last season (he had previously never averaged fewer than 31 minutes a night). As a result, he posted career-lows in points (12.4) and assists (2.3). Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol came off the bench against the Warriors on Saturday, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers in 21 minutes.

It was a mild surprise to see Davis Bertans and David Lee come in before Gasol, but Lee's injury may have brought Gasol in for more time than expected. With Lee likely out and LaMarcus Aldridge not playing well, maybe Gasol is looking at more minutes for Game 4.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored five points with two rebounds, one assists, one block, one steal and five fouls in 16 minutes against the Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday.

He was in foul trouble, but this just isn't his series. The Spurs surprisingly went with several two-big lineups for most of this game, but keep in mind Andre Iguodala was limited to prevent some of the deadly small-ball combos. While Gasol didn't play well, the Spurs did play well with some lineups consisting of David Lee and LaMarcus Aldridge. Don't expect Gasol to crack 20 minutes too often in this series.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Patty Mills, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol will start against the Warriors in Game 1 on Sunday.

The Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge combos didn't fare well against the Rockets, so coach Gregg Popovich may not go too heavy today. It does make sense to start Gasol and have him log most of his minutes against Zaza Pachulia, though. Gasol has played 24.2 minutes per game in the postseason so far, but there's a decent chance that number goes slightly down in this series.
May 14 - 2:18 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol moved into the Spurs' starting lineup during Game 2, snaring a game-high 13 rebounds with six points on 3-of-11 shooting, three assists, four blocks and one steal.

Gasol was effective in Game 1 but he didn't get many minutes due to the lopsided score. He took over for David Lee tonight in his first start since Jan. 17, and was deceptively efficient in 29 minutes -- six of his boards came on the offensive glass, and he helped San Antonio dominate the rebound battle with a 47-32 advantage.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol will start Game 2 on Wednesday in place of David Lee.

Lee was held to four points in 29 minutes during the Spurs' blowout loss in Game 1, while Pau posted a nice all-around line in just 22 minutes off the bench. San Antonio will look for a much different start tonight, after falling behind by 30 points by halftime on Monday.
May 3 - 7:51 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol reached 20,000 points for his career on Wednesday, coming off the bench for 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds and one steal.

The Spurs will take on the Grizzlies in the first round, so there will be some fraternal warfare between the Gasol brothers, even though Pau won't be starting at center. Gregg Popovich played all of his key guys solid minutes tonight, to keep them ready for Game 1 of the first round at 8pm on Saturday.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol made just two of his 10 field-goal attempts in Monday's road loss against the Trail Blazers, finishing with seven points, 13 rebounds and a blocked shot.

His shooting was atrocious, but at least he salvaged the stat line for fantasy owners with his high amount of boards and a blocked shot. Despite the fact he played four less minutes than started Dewayne Dedmon he was still far more valuable from a fantasy perspective. That's been the case most of the season.

Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 15 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday.

After the game, Gasol said the Spurs need to work on their rhythm as a team and the team reacted late in the second half. Even though the Spurs having nothing to play for, expect for Gasol to be out there the rest of the way. Gasol also said he "loved" the idea of not getting rest.
Apr 8 - 11:25 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol (rest) will not play against the Mavs on Friday.

Somewhat surprisingly, this will be Gasol's first game off since he returned from a hand injury on Feb. 24. Gasol has transformed into an excellent shooter since his return, making 1.5 treys per game at 60.0 percent from beyond the arc. With Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge out, it'll be David Lee, Davis Bertans and Dewayne Dedmon carrying most of the burden up front. We might see some Joel Anthony, as well.
Apr 6 - 4:20 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 17 points with four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 28 minutes against the Thunder on Friday.

Did he have something magical put into his hand from the surgery to make him a better 3-point shooter? Since returning, Gasol has made an absurd 29-of-47 from deep (61.7 percent). What's more, he's made 10-of-11 in the corner during that span. That wrinkle will make it even tougher to defend the Spurs and their ball movement, but keep an eye out for rest going forward.
Apr 1 - 1:39 AM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol hit five of his eight field goal attempts, including both of his 3-pointer tries, to finish with 14 points and four rebounds over 21 minutes in Monday's blowout win against the Cavaliers.

Gasol has been coming off the bench with Dewayne Dedmon starting, almost splitting the minutes. However, the veteran Gasol is the big man you want between the two, as he has much more scoring upside without losing much in rebounds. Gasol is also a solid option from behind the arc, hitting nine triples on 13 tries over the past five outings.
Mar 28 - 12:03 AM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 19 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three 3-pointers in 26 minutes against the Knicks on Saturday.

He's been kind of ridiculous as a jump shooter. Since returning from injury, Gasol has made 7-of-8 on corner treys to go with his 51.5 percent on above the breaks for his 24 total treys in 16 games. His defense isn't great, but his shooting has made the San Antonio offense especially tough to guard. Keep him rolling and hope he doesn't rest in back-to-back sets.
Mar 25 - 11:52 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol scored 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, two steals and a pair of 3-pointers in Sunday's 118-102 win against the Kings.

Gasol's 22 points were his most since he posted 24 points in a game in Sacramento back on Nov. 16. Apparently there is something about the purple and slate gray that he enjoys seeing on the other side of the court. He has bagged six 3-pointers over the past four games and he is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game during the span. Gasol plays with a bit of a minutes cap to preserve him for the postseason, but he continues to turn in decent stat lines for his fantasy owners.
Mar 19 - 11:51 PM
Pau Gasol - F/C - Spurs

Pau Gasol was quiet vs. the Grizzlies on Saturday, scoring eight points with nine rebounds and one assist.

He made 3-of-5 shots from the field, his ninth game of the season with five or fewer FGAs. The good news is that he only played 24 minutes, so that means he has a good chance of playing on Sunday vs. the Kings on the second night of a back-to-back set. It also helps that the Spurs are 3.0 games behind the Warriors for the top seed in the West.
