Joe Johnson said that he plans to continue playing next season and would be interested in re-signing with the Rockets.
Johnson averaged a career-low 6.8 points and 1.5 assists in 21.9 minutes per game in 2017-18, but should still be able to contribute in limited minutes off the bench next season. "Hell yeah, I want to keep rolling," Johnson said after Monday's Game 7 loss. "I'm not even thinking about [retiring]. I would love to have a chance to win a ring. I want to go to a contender. I don't want to just be out here playing just to be playing." May 29 - 11:02 AM

Date:

Joe Johnson went scoreless with two rebounds and one block in seven minutes off the bench on Sunday.

The Rockets were playing without Ryan Anderson (ankle) and Luc Mbah a Moute (shoulder), which prompted coach Mike D'Antoni to say pre-game that Johnson would absorb some backup PF minutes. Tonight's limited production says enough about his lack of appeal for DFS value, especially with Anderson questionable for Game 2.
Apr 16 - 12:00 AM

Joe Johnson earned the start for Houston on Wednesday and had four points on 2-of-10 shooting, five assists and three boards in 29 minutes.

The veteran filled in with Houston resting most of their key players -- Johnson, P.J. Tucker and Gerald Green were joined by guys like Aaron Jackson, R.J. Hunter, Chinanu Onuaku and Zhou Qi. The 17-year veteran will head back to his usual reserve role but don't be surprised if he has a few big moments in the postseason.
Apr 12 - 1:05 AM

P.J. Tucker, Gerald Green, Joe Johnson, R.J. Hunter and Tarik Black will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Kings.

This is what starting lineups look like when the games don't matter. Johnson and Green figure to do the heavy lifting on offense and Hunter could be a sneaky punt play in DFS.

Joe Johnson scored 11 points with three rebounds, two steals and two 3-pointers in 30 minutes against the Pistons on Thursday.

He is a good bet to see more run now while Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) is hurting. Johnson has played plenty of power forward before, so it's nothing new for him. He could be worth a stream if LMAM gets some time off, and he does get a back-to-back set on Saturday-Sunday. Plus, the Rockets would likely rest someone.
Mar 22 - 10:48 PM

Joe Johnson scored five points with one rebound, one assist and one 3-pointer in 16 minutes against the Raptors on Friday.

He's just another option and he fits the bill as a shooter that can also cover fours. Johnson won't have much fantasy value while the Rockets are even close to healthy.
Mar 9 - 9:55 PM

Joe Johnson is not on the injury report for Friday against the Raptors.

He did not play in the back-to-back set on Tuesday and Wednesday due to an illness. Johnson did play 13 minutes on Saturday, and he could see minutes in the 10-16 range again with Ryan Anderson (hip) not expected to play.
Mar 8 - 2:54 PM

Joe Johnson (illness) will not play against the Bucks on Wednesday.

He'll miss both games in the back-to-back set after playing 13 minutes against the Celtics on Saturday. With him out, there will be a few extra minutes for P.J. Tucker, Luc Mbah a Moute and Gerald Green.
Mar 7 - 6:35 PM

Joe Johnson (illness) is questionable to play Wednesday vs. the Bucks.

The Rockets are on the second night of a back-to-back set, meaning they won't host a shootaround, so we won't get another update on Johnson until he goes through his pregame routine. In other words, he's headed for a game-time call, but if he is able to get back out there, Gerald Green could fall out of the rotation entirely.
Mar 7 - 1:23 PM

Joe Johnson (illness) will miss Tuesday's game vs. the Thunder.

Johnson played just 13 minutes in his last game and isn't going to have a big role as long as Houston is healthy on the wings. With Johnson out, Gerald Green could pick up some run after a DNP-CD vs. Boston.

Mar 5 - 12:04 PM

Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni has been impressed by veteran Joe Johnson.

"Joe Johnson played really well," coach Mike D’Antoni said on Friday. "He’s getting more comfortable, especially in the second half. I’ve known Joe forever and he’s a machine. He just keeps playing, doesn’t get tired, he’s strong, and just really understands his game. If you watch it, he’s really good." Johnson has played 31 and 22 minutes in his first two games as a Rocket, a number that will surely go down once Eric Gordon gets healthy. There's no reason to own Johnson outside of very deep leagues.
Feb 25 - 10:17 AM

Joe Johnson scored nine points with three rebounds, one steal and one 3-pointer in 31 minutes against the Kings on Wednesday.

He had some rust in his first game as a Rocket, but coach Mike D'Antoni gave him a green light just like all of his other shooters. Johnson showed he can play stretch four in Utah's system, so he should have no problem with the Rockets. Still, he's not likely going to have much value and he'll be dropping in the 20s once Trevor Ariza returns after the break.
Feb 14 - 11:08 PM

Mike D'Antoni said that Joe Johnson "could get some time" Wednesday against the Kings.

Johnson should be able to pick up some minutes in Houston while Trevor Ariza (hamstring) is out, but it's unlikely he'll be out there enough to make a meaningful impact in fantasy hoops. D'Antoni also said he doesn't anticipate Brandan Wright playing, but Tarik Black will be available.
Feb 14 - 6:50 PM

Joe Johnson will sign on Wednesday and be available against the Kings, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The Rockets waived Troy Williams to clear the roster spot. Johnson will help fill the current void left by Trevor Ariza, which could take minutes from P.J. Tucker, Ryan Anderson and Luc Mbah a Moute. Most fantasy owners shouldn't be attacking this situation.
Feb 14 - 4:17 PM

Joe Johnson is expected to sign with the Rockets on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Johnson was placed on waivers by the Kings on Sunday. He reportedly has already committed to signing with the Rockets once he clears waivers. Johnson won't be available to play Tuesday when Houston takes on the Timberwolves.
