After GM Glen Grunwald said Amare Stoudemire could be on a minutes restriction next season, Grunwald revealed that the Knicks are hopeful Stoudemire will be able to play "significant minutes" next season.
Grunwald virtually admitted the Knicks have no idea how STAT's health will hold up, or if it will at all. He had two knee surgeries during the season, and although he made it back each time, it's unclear what his status will be for next year in terms of how he's utilized. Coach Mike Woodson has already dismissed the talk about whether or not Stoudemire will start, and Grunwald said "we don't know" when asked what Stoudemire can do next season. May 27 - 8:01 AM

Date:

Amare Stoudemire will work with Hakeem Olajuwon in August.

It will be the second summer in a row in which STAT works with The Dream on low-post moves and defense. Interestingly, Olajuwon reportedly charges $50,000 per week for the instruction at his private basketball court just outside of Houston. Despite the injuries, Stoudemire had his best shooting season as a Knick, making 57.7 percent of his shots from the floor. Of course, fantasy owners will be reluctant to draft Stoudemire next year considering he had a surgery on each knee last season.

Amare Stoudemire was not happy with his role this season and wants to play a bigger part next season.

After GM Glen Grunwald said STAT could be on a minutes cap, it appears as if Stoudemire is preparing himself to play as much as he can. "You know Amar’e, he’s going to work as hard as he can during the offseason," said Happy Walters, Stoudemire’s agent. "It was a tough year, but Amar’e is already looking forward to next season. He’ll be ready." It's unclear what kind of role he'll have next season since Mike Woodson won't commit to him as a starter.

GM Glen Grunwald said Amare Stoudemire could have a minutes restriction next season.

It's way too early to determine what the restrictions might be, but the Knicks are focused on keeping STAT healthy and on the court. It appears as if STAT could be headed for another season as a role player with Mike Woodson saying he hasn't made a decision on whether or not he'll start, and Amare planned to talk with Woodson about his role for next year during the offseason. As usual, it's shaping up to be an interesting offseason for the Knicks.

Amar'e Stoudemire (knee) was not fully healthy during the playoffs.

As expected. Considering STAT sat out for more than two months after a second knee surgery this season and returned to a very limited role in the playoffs, we never expected him to be fully healthy this year. He'll have the offseason to rest and rehab, but there's a very real chance he becomes the highest-paid role player in recent history given his health woes and contract situation.
May 21 - 8:28 AM

Amare Stoudemire (knee) played under six minutes in Game 6, his least playing time since returning in Game 3.

Kenyon Martin played 22 scrappy minutes before fouling out, Chris Copeland helped spread the court (3-of-6 from deep) in 19 minutes, and the result was a negligible role for Amare, who will make $45.1 million over the next two seasons. Injuries combined with Carmelo Anthony's success at PF have complicated Amare's role with the Knicks, and he came off the bench in all 29 of his appearances this year.
May 19 - 5:24 AM

Amare Stoudemire (knee) confirmed after his postseason debut that he's "feeling great."

STAT played just nine minutes in his first game back, but he managed to jack up eight shots during his time on the floor. He's not expected to exceed 12-15 minutes at a maximum during the second round series, so he's unlikely to make a serious impact.
May 13 - 7:51 AM

Amare Stoudemire (knee) had seven points and two rebounds in his playoff debut on Saturday, hitting 3-of-8 shots in nine minutes of action.

His knee looked healthy but the Knicks will limit Amare to 10-15 minutes per game for at least the duration of the second round, if not the entire playoffs. Carmelo Anthony (21 points) was the only Knicks player in double-digits tonight, as New York fell 82-71, and they'll need to manufacture some offense to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
May 11 - 11:20 PM

Mike Woodson said that he expects Amare Stoudemire to play 10-12 minutes for the rest of the series against Indiana.

He's going to play on Saturday and the Knicks are going to ease him back with a secondary bench role. Stoudemire is a little late on his six-week timetable from a right knee debridement surgery on March 11, so maybe he's a little more ready than he was the last time he returned from knee surgery in January.
May 11 - 6:45 PM

Amare Stoudemire (knee) will play 10 to 12 minutes Saturday night.

Stoudemire is returning from his second knee surgery of the season and the Knicks are choosing to be extra careful this time around. Still, the Knicks could definitely use any extra offense possible with J.R. Smith possibly out with an illness tonight. It also bears watching how Stoudemire's return affects the minutes of Kenyon Martin, who has been a revelation for the Knicks since signing late in the season.
May 11 - 11:11 AM

Mike Woodson made it clear that Amare Stoudemire (knee) will not play a major role in Saturday's Game 3.

"It won't be very many minutes," Woodson said. "I'm thinking somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, if that." After STAT has had surgery on both knees this season, the team doesn't want to run him into the ground. "He understands, he has no choice," Woodson added.
May 10 - 9:52 AM

Updating a previous item, Amare Stoudemire (knee surgery) is taking part in contact practice on Thursday.

So far, so good for the big man as he tries to make it back for Game 3. His final test will be a 5-on-5 practice on Friday, and if his body holds up, he'll be ready to go for Saturday's contest. If he does play, it's only expected to be for 10-15 minutes.
May 9 - 12:35 PM

Amare Stoudemire (knee surgery) is on track to play in Game 3 vs. the Pacers on Saturday.

Although Stoudemire still needs to "finish off his trial run" with a 5-on-5 scrimmage at practice on Friday, all signs point to him returning on Saturday. As long as he doesn't get hurt or have a setback, he'll be cleared to return on Saturday. "He's working his butt off to get back in uniform," Mike Woodson said. "We're going to play him. He won't be able to play big minutes, but we're going to play him."
May 9 - 8:45 AM

Amare Stoudemire (knee surgery) is not expected to play heavy minutes in Game 3 if he's available.

"We're going to play him and we'll expect him to do his part," Mike Woodson said. STAT was on a minutes limit last time he returned from knee surgery, so this hardly comes as a surprise. Woodson said it's a "possibility" Stoudemire returns, but that's what we've known for some time.
May 8 - 1:42 PM

Amare Stoudemire is "not in great shape," according to Mike Woodson.

"As expected, winded and not in great shape," Woodson said. We're not surprised given STAT has been out for so long following another knee surgery, but Stoudemire is going through contact practices and hasn't experienced any setbacks thus far. If he's able to prove his body can hold up through the work this week, he's expected to return for Saturday's Game 3.
