John Salmons has officially signed his contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Salmons' contract is for $2 million, according to Eric Pincus of He will join the Pelicans' rotation as a role player, but could see more minutes if (when) Eric Gordon goes down with an injury. Salmons may eventually return some fantasy value in extremely deep leagues, but most fantasy owners can bypass the 34-year-old on draft day. Aug 12 - 11:43 AM

ESPN is reporting that John Salmons will sign with the Pelicans.

He's not expected to see major minutes, that could quickly change as soon as Eric Gordon gets hurt. The Raptors recently traded Salmons to the Hawks, who cut him in order to clear as much cap space as possible, even though there's not much left to pick from in the free agency pool.
Jul 14 - 4:21 PM

The Atlanta Hawks will officially waive John Salmons on Thursday.

The Hawks had been waiting for the free agency period to officially start before waiving the newly-acquired Salmons. Now that the free agency period has officially begun, the Hawks will quickly cut ties with Salmons and buy out his $1 million contract.
Jul 10 - 11:08 AM

The Hawks won't be releasing John Salmons on Monday before the free agent period starts.

The plan is to extend the deadline between the two sides to July 10, and this may be among the most uneventful news of the night.
Jun 30 - 10:01 PM

John Salmons was traded to the Hawks on Sunday, though Atlanta is expected to quickly buy out his contract for $1 million.

The deal is all about saving salary-cap space for the Hawks, and Salmons will soon enter the pool of unrestricted free agents. The 34-year-old swingman made 38.7 percent of his 3-pointers last season but shot just 36.3 percent overall, and fantasy owners should shun him in all but the deepest formats.
Jun 29 - 8:47 PM

John Salmons could be traded to the Grizzlies in a deal for Tayshaun Prince.

The Raptors would also get the 22nd pick in the deal, which would be a big win for the Raptors despite taking on Prince's $7.7 million next year. Salmons has a roster bonus coming on July 1, so he'll be waived by the Raptors if they don't ship him out of town. He wouldn't have fantasy value with the Grizzlies at full strength.

Jun 26 - 4:24 PM

John Salmons will likely be waived by the Raptors if he's still on the roster on June 30.

The Raptors would pay $1 million and save $6 million with Salmons on the roster during July. He wasn't much of a factor for the Raptors since they acquired him in the Rudy Gay deal, averaging 5.0 points, 2.0 boards and 1.7 assists in 60 games with the Raptors.
Jun 25 - 7:47 PM

John Salmons played 34 minutes against the Wizards during Thursday's 134-129 triple-overtime loss with seven points, five boards, three assists and one 3-pointer.

Terrence Ross (ankle) went down with an ankle sprain in the first half and it allowed Salmons to start the second half. His numbers haven't really taken off with the Raptors and he is shooting just 36.7 percent from the field on the season. He's only worth a speculative add in deep leagues.
Feb 27 - 11:35 PM

John Salmons will play on Tuesday despite a sore lower back.

He was limited during shootaround but feels well enough to suit up as Toronto goes for their seventh win in the past eight games. Salmons hasn't scored double-digit points since Feb. 3 and there's no reason to trust him outside of the deepest leagues.
Feb 25 - 6:19 PM

John Salmons scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with two rebounds, four assists and one steal in 32 minutes off the bench on Monday.

Salmons will use some sort of Jedi mind trick to convince a coach to play him, which he has done yet again in Toronto, and then he'll put up a few lines like this before shrinking back into the shadows. He had 11 points and nine assists on Friday and he's worth a look in deeper leagues while he's hot.
Feb 4 - 2:49 AM

John Salmons handed out a season-high nine assists against the Nuggets on Friday with 11 points, two steals and three 3-pointers in 24 minutes.

It was one of his better lines of the season, which is a bit of a surprise since he couldn't get much going while DeMar DeRozan was out. He should be able to hit a triple per game with some other stats, but he's not worth owning in most leagues while the Raptors are at full strength.
Feb 1 - 1:43 AM

John Salmons or Steve Novak is expected to start in place of DeMar DeRozan (foot, ankle) on Monday.

Salmons would make the most sense, but coach Dwane Casey may want to keep his second unit together. Terrence Ross should see plenty of minutes tonight while Greivis Vasquez is also in the mix to gain value.
Jan 27 - 6:21 PM

John Salmons played a little down the stretch of Saturday's 126-118 loss to the Clippers, scoring two points with one assist and one steal in 19 minutes.

He was playing for much of the fourth quarter, but checked out with a little over two minutes left in the period. Salmons' shot wasn't falling and he might have a chance to get more minutes with DeRozan out. He's only worth a speculative add in deeper formats.
Jan 25 - 10:30 PM

John Salmons was quiet in his return from back spasms on Monday with no points, one board, two assists and one block in 17 minutes.

He was in the lineup down the stretch of this game, but he certainly did not look like he was all the way back. It was a mild surprise to see him back in the lineup and hopefully he'll be closer to 100 percent on Wednesday. Salmons is firmly in the rotation and a big part of the second unit, but only has value in deeper leagues.
Jan 20 - 7:15 PM

John Salmons (back) is in the Raptors' active lineup on Monday.

He was a game-time decision and looked to still be in pain during pre-game warmups, but the veteran swingman will suit up as the Raptors try to get back on track following a disappointing home loss to the Lakers.
