John Salmons (personal) has returned from the birth of his child and will play on Saturday.
He won't see enough minutes to warrant your attention in most fantasy leagues as long as Tyreke Evans is healthy. You can leave Salmons on the waiver wire for now. Nov 8 - 12:56 PM

John Salmons (personal) will not play on Monday night.

He is with his wife for the birth of their child. Salmons is barely seeing double-digit minutes and has no fantasy value. Russ Smith is active in his place.
Nov 3 - 7:19 PM

In his Pelicans debut, John Salmons came off the bench for two rebounds and one assist in 10 minutes, without attempting a single field goal or free throw.

New Orleans' rotation isn't set in stone and the SF position is particularly unsteady -- Tyreke Evans is slightly undersized as a starting SF and coach Monty Williams isn't sure whether Salmons, Darius Miller or Luke Babbitt will serve as Evans' primary backup. Salmons shot 36.3 percent last year, and tonight's dud nicely sums up his lack of fantasy value.
Oct 28 - 10:50 PM

John Salmons is listed as the starter at small forward for the Pelicans on Saturday.

He's competing with Luke Babbitt and Darius Miller, so he looks to have the upper hand right now. While starting gets a lot of fanfare, Salmons is still not worth drafting in almost any league.
Oct 4 - 6:16 PM

John Salmons appears to be in the running to start at small forward for the Pelicans, but several things would have to take place to make it happen.

First of all, this assumes that Eric Gordon comes off the bench and Tyreke Evans starts at shooting guard, and not small forward. The Hornets can say anything they want, but it's clear that Gordon and Evans seem to make the most sense as starters on the wings. If Gordon does come off the bench and Evans starts at SG, Evans would have to beat out Darius Miller and Luke Babbitt for the job. Our guess is that Gordon and Evans will both start and the other three guys will come off the bench. But if Salmons does somehow win a starting job, he'll be worth keeping a close eye on early in the season.
Sep 24 - 7:37 PM

John Salmons has officially signed his contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Salmons' contract is for $2 million, according to Eric Pincus of He will join the Pelicans' rotation as a role player, but could see more minutes if (when) Eric Gordon goes down with an injury. Salmons may eventually return some fantasy value in extremely deep leagues, but most fantasy owners can bypass the 34-year-old on draft day.
Aug 12 - 11:43 AM

ESPN is reporting that John Salmons will sign with the Pelicans.

He's not expected to see major minutes, that could quickly change as soon as Eric Gordon gets hurt. The Raptors recently traded Salmons to the Hawks, who cut him in order to clear as much cap space as possible, even though there's not much left to pick from in the free agency pool.
Jul 14 - 4:21 PM

The Atlanta Hawks will officially waive John Salmons on Thursday.

The Hawks had been waiting for the free agency period to officially start before waiving the newly-acquired Salmons. Now that the free agency period has officially begun, the Hawks will quickly cut ties with Salmons and buy out his $1 million contract.
Jul 10 - 11:08 AM

The Hawks won't be releasing John Salmons on Monday before the free agent period starts.

The plan is to extend the deadline between the two sides to July 10, and this may be among the most uneventful news of the night.
Jun 30 - 10:01 PM

John Salmons was traded to the Hawks on Sunday, though Atlanta is expected to quickly buy out his contract for $1 million.

The deal is all about saving salary-cap space for the Hawks, and Salmons will soon enter the pool of unrestricted free agents. The 34-year-old swingman made 38.7 percent of his 3-pointers last season but shot just 36.3 percent overall, and fantasy owners should shun him in all but the deepest formats.
Jun 29 - 8:47 PM

John Salmons could be traded to the Grizzlies in a deal for Tayshaun Prince.

The Raptors would also get the 22nd pick in the deal, which would be a big win for the Raptors despite taking on Prince's $7.7 million next year. Salmons has a roster bonus coming on July 1, so he'll be waived by the Raptors if they don't ship him out of town. He wouldn't have fantasy value with the Grizzlies at full strength.

Jun 26 - 4:24 PM

John Salmons will likely be waived by the Raptors if he's still on the roster on June 30.

The Raptors would pay $1 million and save $6 million with Salmons on the roster during July. He wasn't much of a factor for the Raptors since they acquired him in the Rudy Gay deal, averaging 5.0 points, 2.0 boards and 1.7 assists in 60 games with the Raptors.
Jun 25 - 7:47 PM

John Salmons played 34 minutes against the Wizards during Thursday's 134-129 triple-overtime loss with seven points, five boards, three assists and one 3-pointer.

Terrence Ross (ankle) went down with an ankle sprain in the first half and it allowed Salmons to start the second half. His numbers haven't really taken off with the Raptors and he is shooting just 36.7 percent from the field on the season. He's only worth a speculative add in deep leagues.
Feb 27 - 11:35 PM

John Salmons will play on Tuesday despite a sore lower back.

He was limited during shootaround but feels well enough to suit up as Toronto goes for their seventh win in the past eight games. Salmons hasn't scored double-digit points since Feb. 3 and there's no reason to trust him outside of the deepest leagues.
Feb 25 - 6:19 PM

John Salmons scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (including three treys) with two rebounds, four assists and one steal in 32 minutes off the bench on Monday.

Salmons will use some sort of Jedi mind trick to convince a coach to play him, which he has done yet again in Toronto, and then he'll put up a few lines like this before shrinking back into the shadows. He had 11 points and nine assists on Friday and he's worth a look in deeper leagues while he's hot.
