With the DeMarcus Cousins trade finalized, the Kings waived Matt Barnes on Monday.
The Kings just don't have room on their roster after bringing in Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and Buddy Hield, so Barnes is the odd man out here. He shouldn't have any trouble finding a contract with a contender, but Barnes is unlikely to land in a situation where he'll provide much fantasy value. Feb 20 - 3:27 PM

The Kings are expected to waive Matt Barnes according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

The Kings are bringing in three players in Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and Buddy Hield, so they have to cut one player to make the necessary roster room. With Omri Casspi now in New Orleans and Arron Afflalo and Ben McLemore on the trade block, this would leave the Kings very thin on the wings. Buddy Hield should be busy right away. As for Barnes, he should have no problem finding another team if he's waived.
Feb 20 - 12:26 PM

Matt Barnes started the second half on Wednesday with Arron Afflalo out due to hamstring stiffness, finishing with 15 points and 14 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Barnes added three assists, one steal and one 3-pointer, while making 5-of-12 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws. He's really benefited since Garrett Temple (hamstring) went down on Jan. 31, and has now collected double-digit rebounds in five of his past nine games. His fantasy value after the A.S. break hinges largely on what the Kings do, or don't do, at the trade deadline.
Feb 16 - 1:20 AM

Matt Barnes came off the bench and hit 2-of-7 shots and a 3-pointer for five points, but also had six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block in 27 minutes on Tuesday.

Barnes has been an intriguing pickup since Rudy Gay's season ended and is worth a look, averaging 11 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks and 2.0 3-pointers on 51 percent shooting over his last five games. He's getting 30 minutes a night right now and is capable of putting up big numbers at any time. He's just struggled to get many shots with DeMarcus Cousins, Darren Collison and Ben McLemore getting serious usage on a nightly basis.
Feb 15 - 1:44 AM

Matt Barnes scored 12 points with five rebounds, three assists, one block and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes on Sunday against the Pelicans.

Barnes continues to be a big part of the Kings rotation with injuries to Garrett Temple (hamstring), Rudy Gay (Achilles) and Omri Casspi (calf). Since Jan. 31, he has averaged 32.3 minutes, 10.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. So long as his role remains as is and he continues to be efficient, he warrants a roster spot in standard leagues.
Feb 13 - 12:06 AM

Matt Barnes had another strong game on Wednesday, chipping in 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes vs. the Celtics.

Barnes has made a combined eight 3-pointers in his past three games, and in his past five he's averaging 11.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.8 threes, 3.6 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.4 blocks. Injuries to Rudy Gay, Garrett Temple and Omri Casspi have really sprung Barnes loose in the rotation, and he's well worth deploying until he cools off.
Feb 9 - 2:00 AM

Matt Barnes scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting in Monday's loss to the Bulls.

Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins hit back-to-back triples late in the fourth quarter and the Kings nearly came back from a 27-point deficit, but they full just short in the end. Barnes added nine rebounds, five assists and three triples in 33 minutes, and while he can be a headache to own at times, he's played 30+ minutes in four straight games and is benefitting from injuries to Garrett Temple (hamstring), Rudy Gay (Achilles) and Omri Casspi (calf). Give him a look if you need to stream some triples, steals and the occasional block.
Feb 7 - 1:25 AM

Matt Barnes scored 11 points off the bench against the Warriors on Saturday, adding 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.

No matter where Barnes gets his minutes, he is going to be the primary wing defender when it counts. He played 39 minutes on Friday in the front end of a back-to-back set, so the big minutes tonight speak volumes. There's a chance Barnes gets rest every once in a while, but his stat-stuffing ways make him worth a pickup in competitive standard leagues.
Feb 5 - 3:02 AM

Matt Barnes made a start against the Suns on Friday with six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and one block in 39 minutes.

Garrett Temple (hamstring) and Arron Afflalo (illness) did not play to open up some run. That's a ton of minutes and there will be a lot going his way while the Kings are in it. They really need a wing defender out there, so Barnes looks like a solid across-the-board guy to consider in standard leagues. He'll need the Kings to win some games.
Feb 4 - 3:43 AM

Matt Barnes is expected to start Friday night vs. the Suns.

With Garrett Temple (hamstring) sidelined, the Sacramento Bee is projecting that Matt Barnes will slide into the starting rotation. Omri Casspi (right calf) will also miss Friday's game. Barnes has started 12 games for the Kings this season and is averaging 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 29.0 minutes per game in those 12 contests. Malachi Richardson and Ben McLemore will also likely see an uptick in minutes.
Feb 3 - 10:28 AM

Matt Barnes turned himself into NYPD on Wednesday.

He was released without bail and will have a future court date from an incident on Dec. 5. The team called it "an ongoing legal process" and wouldn't comment further. Barnes is expected to be available for Friday night against the Suns.
Feb 1 - 3:52 PM

Matt Barnes scored 16 points with three boards, two assists, one steal and four triples vs. the 76ers on Monday.

Omri Casspi (right calf) will miss at least another week, but Barnes could be looking at a possible suspension because he's expected to turn himself in on misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly assaulting a woman during a brawl in New York City back in December. This was his first good game in a while and Barnes scored a combined eight points in his previous three games, so leave him on the wire for now.
Jan 30 - 9:07 PM

Matt Barnes is expected to soon turn himself in on misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly assaulting a woman during a brawl in New York City back in December.

Both the Kings organization and the NBA will likely delay making a decision any form of punishment, such as a fine or suspension, until all legal matters are resolved.
Jan 27 - 1:14 PM

Matt Barnes hit 4-of-9 shots and a 3-pointer for 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal in Monday's 109-104 win over the Pistons.

Barnes had gone seven straight games without scoring more than eight points before tonight's 10-point performance, so he's not exactly a must-own player right now. But with Rudy Gay (achilles) done for the season, Barnes and Garrett Temple look like the best bets to play well in his absence. Temple has been playing a little better than Barnes, but that could change at any time. Just keep an eye on Barnes in case this was a sign he's about to get hot.
Jan 24 - 12:04 AM

Matt Barnes played just 18 minutes vs. the Grizzlies on Friday with eight points on 3-of-9 shooting.

He didn't make the most of this "revenge game" opportunity with just two assists, one rebound and one triple in 18 minutes. We're still expecting his minutes to trend up with Rudy Gay (Achilles) out for the season, but he's not an exciting add by any means. Garrett Temple had 14 points in 33 minutes and looks like the better add right now.
