Matt Barnes, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, said that he would like to be "in a competitive situation."
Barnes added that he feels he has "three or four" more years left and would consider staying in Memphis if the team is moving in the right direction. After playing his heart out for a Grizzlies team that brought spoons to a gun fight, expect Barnes to earn himself a nice little raise on his next contract regardless of where he lands. For what it's worth, Barnes—in an ideal scenario—sees himself as a sixth or seventh man. Apr 25 - 1:10 PM

Matt Barnes scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting in Sunday's loss to the Spurs.

Barnes added seven boards, four assists, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer, once again showing his unique ability to contribute across the box score. Barnes stepped up for the injury-plagued Grizzlies this season on his way to averages of 10.0 points, 5.5 boards, 2.1 assists, 0.8 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.6 3-pointers on 38.1 percent shooting, so the impending free agent could get a decent raise this summer. Expect him to join a contender if he doesn't re-sign with Memphis.
Apr 24 - 4:37 PM

Matt Barnes scored 17 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 42 minutes against the Spurs on Friday.

The move to power forward was a positive one for Barnes. While it looked like he was going to struggle against LaMarcus Aldridge, Barnes wasn't beaten too badly. Barnes probably won't be this good because the Grizzlies may have a tough time keeping it close again. He'll still be in play for DFS.
Apr 23 - 12:04 AM

Matt Barnes scored nine points on 3-of-11 shooting in Tuesday's loss to the Spurs, adding six boards, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes.

The Grizzlies have been severely outmatched in this series and Barnes said that his team is "coming to a gunfight with spoons." Barnes didn't play well in Game 1 either with just two points on 1-of-7 shooting, so hopefully he can get back on track in Game 3 on Friday with the series moving to Memphis. For what it's worth, this was his fourth game in a row in single digits if you include the last two games of the regular season.
Apr 20 - 12:43 AM

Matt Barnes was held to seven points vs. the Clippers on Tuesday, adding one rebound and three turnovers in 26 minutes.

This was his worst game in a while, and that's a shame because he was going up against his former team. Barnes has been playing heavy minutes all season, so his owners will want to make sure he's active for Wednesday's game vs. the Warriors. Barnes had 24 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three treys in his previous outing, so he's worth deploying in most lineups if he gives it a go on Wednesday.
Apr 13 - 1:11 AM

Matt Barnes was terrific in 40 minutes during a 100-99 loss to the Warriors on Saturday, scoring 24 points with 15 rebounds, four assists and three 3-pointers.

He matched his career high in boards with his only other 15-board game coming back in 2010. Barnes is likely going to get a night off on Tuesday or Wednesday. He was one of the better fantasy pickups all season after the Grizzlies didn't give up much to get him.
Apr 9 - 11:22 PM

Matt Barnes scored 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting Friday, to go with seven boards, fives assists, three 3-pointers, two steals and two turnovers in 38 minutes.

As per usual, the shooting wasn't pretty, but Barnes still found a way to make a meaningful contribution to the box score. Despite connecting on just 33.3 percent of his shots over the past seven games, he's still produced late-round value in 9-cat leagues with averages of 11.7 points, 7.2 boards, 2.5 assists, 2.0 triples and 1.0 steal per game. He's logging heavy minutes on a nightly basis for the injury riddled Grizzlies, and is worth owning as long as you can stomach the poor shooting.
Apr 9 - 12:44 AM

Matt Barnes scored a team-high 24 points in Sunday's tough road loss, making 8-of-17 shots with five 3-pointers, five rebounds, one assist, one block and four turnovers.

Barnes has been struggling offensively, to say the least, averaging just 10.8 points on 32.5 percent shooting in his past 10 games. He has terrific across-the-board potential, chipping in solid boards, 3-pointers and defensive stats, so tonight's solid shooting performance is great to see. He didn't get much help, unfortunately, as the other four starters combined for just 29 points on 12-of-31 shooting.
Apr 3 - 8:47 PM

Matt Barnes' shooting woes continued on Friday, as he hit just 1-of-7 shots on his way to two points, four boards, one assist, one turnover and no other statistics in 27 minutes.

Barnes has been horrible in his previous six, owning meager averages of 9.0 points, 6.5 boards, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 triple per contest while connecting on just 33.9 percent of his shot attempts. His minutes are safe with zero depth behind him, but he's becoming a tough guy to hang onto in standard leagues at this juncture in the fantasy season.
Apr 2 - 1:14 AM

Matt Barnes shot just 2-of-12 from the field to score six points on Wednesday, but he rounded out his line with 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one 3-pointer.

Barnes had just one turnover in a team-high 40 minutes of action but his efforts weren't enough to secure a much-needed victory -- the Grizzlies' loss snaps a six-game win streak vs. the Nuggets at FedEx Forum. Inefficiency has taken a toll on Barnes' roto appeal but his upside is high enough to warrant ownership in most formats.
Mar 30 - 11:03 PM

Matt Barnes scored 14 points in 35 minutes against the Spurs on Friday with six rebounds, three assists, one block, one steal and two 3-pointers.

He continues to log big minutes and has double-digit shot attempts in each of his last four. In that span, Barnes averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 boards, 3.0 assists, 1.3 blocks, 0.8 steals and 1.8 treys. There really isn't any help coming at small forward, so Barnes should be owned in standard leagues.
Mar 26 - 12:38 AM

Matt Barnes played well in his return to the lineup on Monday vs. the Suns, scoring 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes.

He served his one-game suspension on Saturday vs. the Clippers and picked up right where he left off tonight. Barnes was averaging 12.9 points, 5.6 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.1 blocks, 0.7 steals and 2.1 3-pointers in his previous nine games in March, so he's worth owning in standard leagues if you can handle his poor field goal percentage (33.1 percent in that span).
Mar 22 - 12:56 AM

Matt Barnes should be back in the starting lineup on Monday night after he sat out due to a suspension on Saturday.

Barnes was heating up prior to the suspension and, at least on paper, looks like a fantastic play against the sieve-like defense of the Suns. Barnes has been scoring, boarding, stealing, blocking and hitting 3-pointers lately, and tonight's matchup looks ideal.
Mar 21 - 6:34 PM

Matt Barnes has been suspended for Saturday's game against the Clippers.

He was suspended for "verbally challenging" John Henson. The Grizzlies are really thin on the wing, especially if Vince Carter (calf) can't play. Lance Stephenson should see some big minutes and might have to move back to the wing. Expect to see more run from Tony Allen, Ray McCallum and Briante Weber.
Mar 19 - 5:19 PM

Matt Barnes could be faced with a suspension or fine for his antics towards the end of Thursday's loss to the Bucks.

With just a few seconds left on the clock, John Henson swatted Barnes' shot and immediately started taunting him. Henson was ejected, while Barnes was subbed out of the game and started chasing after Henson in the tunnel on the way to the locker room. Both players were eventually escorted out of the arena by security guards, so the NBA will likely have to address this. Barnes finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block, one steal and three 3-pointers.
