It's likely just a minor tweak, so the Kings will hold him out as a precaution. The Kings are shopping Rudy Gay, so Barnes could have some sneaky fantasy value this season. Oct 18 - 8:23 PM

Coach Dave Joerger said Matt Barnes "dinged his right knee last week.

It's just a minor concern and he should be ready to roll later this week. Barnes is expected to play most of his minutes as the stretch four to help open up the offense. He's a sneaky late-round target in deep leagues.
Oct 3 - 7:36 PM

Matt Barnes believes that he will be able to help the Kings' team chemistry.

"I think I have a unique way of – no matter what team I’ve been on and who’s been on that team, even playing with Kobe [Bryant] and those guys – of having my voice being respected." Barnes added that he has an uncanny ability to get through to people and that he wants to lead by example this season. Barnes is one of coach Dave Joerger's favorite players, so he could have some sneaky fantasy value once Rudy Gay is inevitably traded. He also wants to be known as the "Cousins whisperer", so there's that.
Sep 28 - 12:56 AM

Coach Dave Joerger said Matt Barnes can be a "terrific" power forward.

This isn't a surprise with how Joerger used Barnes a ton at the four in their Memphis days. On top of the minutes at the four, Barnes should see a good chunk of minutes at the three, especially with the Rudy Gay trade rumors. Barnes has seen some solid fantasy numbers when he's rolling, so he's a sneaky late-round flier in standard leagues.
Aug 25 - 7:23 PM

According to Kings beat writer Jason Jones, Dave Joerger is "a fan of Matt Barnes."

Additionally, Jones reports that Barnes is someone DeMarcus Cousins "has long wanted as a teammate." This really shouldn't come as a surprise given Barnes found success under Joerger in Memphis and Cousins wants teammates willing to do the dirty work so he doesn't always have to be the bad guy. We can't wait for Barnes to react the first time an opposing player tries to get into it with Boogie.
Jul 4 - 9:34 AM

The Kings have reportedly agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with free agent Matt Barnes.

The second year is a player option. CSN's James Ham reported earlier that Sacramento rescinded their offer to Seth Curry in order to pursue a veteran, and now we know their target. It's an interesting move for the Kings and will do nothing to quell speculation that Rudy Gay is available for trade, as the 36-year-old Barnes could slot into a starting forward spot next season. Barnes' fantasy appeal will depend on Gay's whereabouts come opening night.
Jul 3 - 8:26 PM

Matt Barnes has reportedly drawn interest from the Clippers, Warriors, Kings and Mavericks.

The lower-tier won't start getting signed until Kevin Durant comes off the board, but the Kings will likely have to give Barnes something substantial to sign him given that he wants to play in a competitive environment. Barnes put up sneaky mid-round value playing alongside Chris Paul in Los Angeles, so the Clippers would be the ideal landing spot for him in terms of fantasy hoops.

Jul 3 - 2:54 PM

Matt Barnes, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, said that he would like to be "in a competitive situation."

Barnes added that he feels he has "three or four" more years left and would consider staying in Memphis if the team is moving in the right direction. After playing his heart out for a Grizzlies team that brought spoons to a gun fight, expect Barnes to earn himself a nice little raise on his next contract regardless of where he lands. For what it's worth, Barnes—in an ideal scenario—sees himself as a sixth or seventh man.
Apr 25 - 1:10 PM

Matt Barnes scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting in Sunday's loss to the Spurs.

Barnes added seven boards, four assists, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer, once again showing his unique ability to contribute across the box score. Barnes stepped up for the injury-plagued Grizzlies this season on his way to averages of 10.0 points, 5.5 boards, 2.1 assists, 0.8 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.6 3-pointers on 38.1 percent shooting, so the impending free agent could get a decent raise this summer. Expect him to join a contender if he doesn't re-sign with Memphis.
Apr 24 - 4:37 PM

Matt Barnes scored 17 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 42 minutes against the Spurs on Friday.

The move to power forward was a positive one for Barnes. While it looked like he was going to struggle against LaMarcus Aldridge, Barnes wasn't beaten too badly. Barnes probably won't be this good because the Grizzlies may have a tough time keeping it close again. He'll still be in play for DFS.
Apr 23 - 12:04 AM

Matt Barnes scored nine points on 3-of-11 shooting in Tuesday's loss to the Spurs, adding six boards, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes.

The Grizzlies have been severely outmatched in this series and Barnes said that his team is "coming to a gunfight with spoons." Barnes didn't play well in Game 1 either with just two points on 1-of-7 shooting, so hopefully he can get back on track in Game 3 on Friday with the series moving to Memphis. For what it's worth, this was his fourth game in a row in single digits if you include the last two games of the regular season.
Apr 20 - 12:43 AM

Matt Barnes was held to seven points vs. the Clippers on Tuesday, adding one rebound and three turnovers in 26 minutes.

This was his worst game in a while, and that's a shame because he was going up against his former team. Barnes has been playing heavy minutes all season, so his owners will want to make sure he's active for Wednesday's game vs. the Warriors. Barnes had 24 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three treys in his previous outing, so he's worth deploying in most lineups if he gives it a go on Wednesday.
Apr 13 - 1:11 AM

Matt Barnes was terrific in 40 minutes during a 100-99 loss to the Warriors on Saturday, scoring 24 points with 15 rebounds, four assists and three 3-pointers.

He matched his career high in boards with his only other 15-board game coming back in 2010. Barnes is likely going to get a night off on Tuesday or Wednesday. He was one of the better fantasy pickups all season after the Grizzlies didn't give up much to get him.
Apr 9 - 11:22 PM

Matt Barnes scored 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting Friday, to go with seven boards, fives assists, three 3-pointers, two steals and two turnovers in 38 minutes.

As per usual, the shooting wasn't pretty, but Barnes still found a way to make a meaningful contribution to the box score. Despite connecting on just 33.3 percent of his shots over the past seven games, he's still produced late-round value in 9-cat leagues with averages of 11.7 points, 7.2 boards, 2.5 assists, 2.0 triples and 1.0 steal per game. He's logging heavy minutes on a nightly basis for the injury riddled Grizzlies, and is worth owning as long as you can stomach the poor shooting.
Apr 9 - 12:44 AM

Matt Barnes scored a team-high 24 points in Sunday's tough road loss, making 8-of-17 shots with five 3-pointers, five rebounds, one assist, one block and four turnovers.

Barnes has been struggling offensively, to say the least, averaging just 10.8 points on 32.5 percent shooting in his past 10 games. He has terrific across-the-board potential, chipping in solid boards, 3-pointers and defensive stats, so tonight's solid shooting performance is great to see. He didn't get much help, unfortunately, as the other four starters combined for just 29 points on 12-of-31 shooting.
