Matt Barnes is expected to spend some time at power forward this season.
The wing rotation will be extremely crowded with Jeff Green, Courtney Lee, Vince Carter and Tony Allen all vying for minutes, so this is good news for Barnes. That being said, Barnes' role will be limited while the Grizzlies are at full strength, so there is no need to look his way unless you are in a very deep league. If anything, this is bad news for JaMychal Green and Jarnell Stokes. Sep 30 - 10:29 AM

Matt Barnes believes that he will fit in with the Memphis Grizzlies because of their "Grit and Grind" style.

"This is a whole - not just team but city - with my ideal, a grind mentality," Barnes said. "I've been on teams that run-and-gun and dunk and shoot a lot of 3's, but I've never been on a team that everyone has the same mindset I do. That's very exciting from a player's standpoint." Barnes will likely come off the bench in Memphis, but his defense and ability to hit the 3-point shot should mean that he will have a decent role right out of the gate. He won't be a target outside of deeper leagues, though.

Memphis acquired Matt Barnes on Thursday morning and intends to keep him.

There was a report yesterday that he was headed to OKC, but it turns out that deal wasn't finalized. The Grizzlies pick up Barnes for next to nothing and he'll give them some extra depth at small forward. It's unclear how much playing time he'll get, though.
Jun 25 - 2:52 PM

Matt Barnes is unlikely to be kept following Monday's trade.

It's no surprise because there really isn't a spot for him. Barnes only has $1 million guaranteed and he'll become a free agent. That means Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Gerald Henderson should get more minutes.
Jun 15 - 8:53 PM

Matt Barnes has been traded to the Hornets.

The Hornets have a messy wing rotation right now and Barnes will have to compete with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Gerald Henderson. He's not in as great of a landing spot because much of his offense came with help from his teammates. In fact, 85.2 percent of Barnes' buckets came off an assist last season. Barnes won't be worth grabbing in almost any league.
Jun 15 - 8:42 PM

Matt Barnes was a no-show in Game 7, going scoreless with two rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one turnover in 22 minutes.

Barnes committed four personal fouls in limited action and L.A.'s swingmen couldn't guard James Harden without fouling or even make a bucket -- Barnes, Jamal Crawford, J.J. Redick and Austin Rivers combined for 29 points on 11-of-36 shooting (30.6 percent). Sunday's dud shouldn't color fantasy owners' view of Barnes next season, as he was a sneaky late-round value thanks to 1.8 three-pointers with steady scoring, rebounds, steals, blocks and percentages.
May 17 - 7:38 PM

Matt Barnes briefly exited Tuesday's game to have his left ankle re-taped, but he returned to finish with five points on 1-of-8 shooting.

Barnes struggled from the field prior to his injury and his stat line was mediocre for fantasy purposes with only one 3-pointer, two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 23 minutes. J.J. Redick scored nine points on 3-of-12 shooting, Austin Rivers went 3-of-11 for eight points, and the Clippers will need more from this trio to close out the Rockets in L.A. on Thursday.
May 13 - 12:38 AM

Matt Barnes has been fined $50,000 for directing inappropriate language at a fan during game on May 6.

Barnes has been in the news for the wrong reasons because his reported argument with James Harden's mom. Barnes has also had some inappropriate language on Twitter and he's not the really the NBA's model citizen. That said, he deserves a lot of credit for his play in the postseason.
May 8 - 6:27 PM

Matt Barnes said on Friday he's been managing his own hamstring injury "since Chicago."

The last noteworthy injury news we had on Barnes was back on Mar. 21 and Barnes is basically saying he's been dealing with some sort of tightness in his hamstring since Mar. 1 when he played the Bulls. This is more of just a bookkeeping item for future reference and Barnes is good to go. Additionally, Barnes said Chris Paul told him that he's playing.
May 8 - 6:18 PM

Matt Barnes hit just 2-of-7 shots for six points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals before fouling out of Wednesday's loss.

He didn't hit a 3-pointer and just didn't have it tonight. He scored 20 in Game 1 and also had 17 points in Saturday's Game 7 win over the Spurs, so odds are he bounces back in Game 3 against the Rockets.
May 7 - 1:05 AM

Matt Barnes was everywhere in the Clippers' Game 1 win over the Rockets on Monday, scoring 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting (including three treys) with five rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks in 42 minutes.

Barnes is a guy that the Clippers would love to rest up in a short series, but for now he's going to be a workhorse and especially while Chris Paul (hamstring) is out. The Rockets didn't exert any of their will on tonight's game and if they have any life in them this type of upside could vanish pretty quickly, and most certainly will when Paul returns.
May 5 - 1:09 AM

Matt Barnes (shoulder) had seven points, one 3-pointer, six rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 28 minutes on Tuesday, as the Clippers lost Game 5 by a final score of 107-111.

Barnes' mildly sprained rotator cuff didn't seem to bother him tonight, and his playing time was mostly limited due to Doc Rivers' decision to roll with Jamal Crawford for longer stretches. Barnes was guilty of failing to box out during a missed free throw at the end of the game, essentially sealing the Spurs' win with an offensive board, but that shouldn't affect his role during Thursday's potential elimination game.
Apr 29 - 2:24 AM

Matt Barnes (sore right shoulder) will play on Tuesday in Game 5.

He had an ice pack on his shoulder and should be able to resume his normal role. In four games against the Spurs in the playoffs, Barnes averaged 5.3 points, 4.3 boards, 1.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 treys on 28.6 percent from the field in 28.0 minutes per game.
Apr 27 - 4:41 PM

Matt Barnes was hampered by fouls and a shoulder injury throughout Sunday's game, which he finished with only four points on 2-of-8 shooting, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The bright side for L.A. is that Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and Glen Davis all played very well for the Clippers' much-maligned bench unit, contributing to an impressive 114-105 win in San Antonio. Barnes has been struggling to score this series (5.2 points per game on 28.6 percent shooting) but his versatility and infectious energy are key to the Clippers' success. He vowed to play in Game 5 despite dealing with a strained rotator cuff.
Apr 26 - 7:34 PM

Matt Barnes made 1-of-10 from the field for four points against the Spurs on Wednesday with 10 rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer in 36 minutes.

His defense was just as bad as his offense tonight. Simply put, Barnes will want to forget this game ASAP.
