Rasual Butler called the Spurs the "gold standard of the NBA."
"To have the opportunity to be part of this culture; to play for Coach Popovich just the way that we play the game is a huge deal for me. It’s very exciting to be a part of this," he said. Butler has fought and clawed to remain in the league, and it's a credit to his hard work and perseverance that he won a spot on the Spurs' regular season team after being left for dead as a training camp invite. Rasual Butler will make the Spurs' 15-man roster for the regular season.

Butler was a steady veteran presence off the Wizards' bench last season with averages of 7.7 points, 2.6 boards and 1.2 3-pointers per game in 75 appearances, so it's not a surprise that he made the team over players such as Jimmer Fredette and Reggie Williams. He will have a limited role in San Antonio while the team is at full strength, so fantasy owners don't have to pay him any attention.
Oct 24 - 9:07 AM

Rasual Butler went scoreless in 14 minutes vs. the Hawks, missing all six of his field goal attempts.

The veteran swingman is auditioning for a spot on the Spurs' roster, and he may be directly competing with Jimmer Fredette (four points in 15 minutes). Butler's biggest selling point is his shooting, so tonight's dud doesn't bode well.
Oct 15 - 12:04 AM

Rasual Butler called it a "no-brainer" to join the Spurs for training camp.

Despite San Antonio having 14 players projected to be on the opening night roster already, Butler didn't hesitate in signing with the Spurs. "You know they’re going to be fighting for something special every year. It’s not often you have the opportunity to be a part of something like that."
Oct 12 - 9:44 AM

Rasual Butler said he's not worried about training camp cuts and will let his play do his talking for him.

Butler is likely fighting for the Spurs final roster spot with Jimmer Fredette, but the 36-year-old said he's going to worry about that scenario. "Only thing I can control is how hard I can work, how smart that I do things and go out there and give good effort everyday," Butler said. The veteran faces is a long shot to survive the Spurs final cuts and can be left undrafted in all fantasy leagues.
Oct 6 - 9:27 AM

The Spurs have signed Rasual Butler for training camp.

Butler was reported to be drawing interest from San Antonio in late August, but he'll face an uphill battle to claim a roster spot on a loaded Spurs roster.
Sep 28 - 11:39 AM

The Pelicans are reportedly interested in unrestricted free agent Rasual Butler.

Butler worked out for the Pelicans on Wednesday, and with the team rather thin at the shooting guard position, it's possible Butler can earn himself a roster spot in New Orleans. While he would add some depth to the Pelicans' backcourt, he wouldn't have a large enough role to warrant the attention of owners in standard leagues.
Sep 10 - 5:27 PM

The Spurs have interest in free agent Rasual Butler.

The Spurs aren't quite as deep on the outside with Marco Belinelli in Sacramento and Cory Joseph in Toronto. Butler likely wouldn't be in the rotation anyway while Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green soak up most of the minutes on the wing.
Aug 21 - 10:08 PM

The Blazers are no longer interested in Rasual Butler, a source told the Oregonian.

After the Blazers were reported to have interest in the veteran, that notion was shot down almost immediately. It was fun while it lasted.
Jul 6 - 10:27 AM

The Blazers have shown an interest in veteran small forward Rasual Butler.

Butler may want to play for a contender at this point in his career, and the Warriors and Spurs are both rumored to be interested in him as well. Butler shot 38.7 percent from deep last season, and he also averaged 7.7 points in 20.1 minutes per game. The Blazers could use another small forward after trading Nicolas Batum to Charlotte, but Al-Farouq Aminu should be locked into a starting role in Portland.
Jul 5 - 12:55 PM

Rasual Butler played 23 minutes against the Pacers on Wednesday with 10 points, six boards and one 3-pointer.

Bradley Beal (ankle) could miss time, so Butler is in line for more shots. Although, Butler really flopped the last time he had an opportunity, so perhaps the Wizards go with Martell Webster more this time. Butler is only worth a look if you desperately need treys.
Mar 25 - 10:50 PM

Rasual Butler scored 15 points with three rebounds and three 3-pointers in 27 minutes against the Magic on Monday.

He made 4-of-14 from the field, so it could have been a much bigger game. Butler has really stepped up as catch-and-shoot guy and scored 15 on Saturday, so he might have another good game in him on Wednesday. If you want to use him, you'll want to make sure Brad Beal (toe) is out.
Feb 9 - 11:23 PM

Rasual Butler scored 15 points off the bench against the Nets on Saturday with two rebounds, four assists, two steals and three 3-pointers in 23 minutes.

With Bradley Beal (toe) out, Butler is easily the next best option on the wing behind Paul Pierce. The Wizards had three elite guys in catch-and-shoot treys last season because of John Wall's style of play and over 35 percent of Butler's shots are catch-and-shoot shots from beyond the arc. Beal isn't going to be out long, so Butler is only worth a look in deep leagues.
Feb 7 - 9:43 PM

Rasual Butler played 29 minutes against the Hornets on Thursday with 11 points, four rebounds, one assist and one 3-pointer.

Bradley Beal suffered a toe injury in the first half and it opened up some playing time for Butler. John Wall really needs a shooter out there to help space the floor, so Butler will get minutes should Beal miss. That said, Beal isn't expected to be out long if at all, so he's only worth a look as a stop-gap option.
Feb 5 - 10:05 PM

Rasual Butler scored nine points with one rebound, one block and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes against the Nets on Saturday.

He was surging to end 2014, but Butler has really cooled off over his last five. In that span, he averaged 6.6 points, 2.6 boards, 0.8 assists and 0.8 treys. He can be cut in most formats.
