The Seattle City Council and investor Chris Hansen have agreed on financial terms to build a new arena in the city.
Forlorn Sonics fans suddenly have reason for optimism -- the new arena could host both an NBA and NHL team once it's completed, Hansen announced the deal on his website SonicsArena.com, and the plan also calls for renovations of the Sonics' former home, KeyArena. As the Mayor of Seattle said on Monday, "We haven't gotten a team yet, but Sonics fans have a reason to smile today." Tue, Sep 11, 2012 02:29:00 PM

Hedge fund manager and Seattle native Christopher Hansen is interested in building a new arena and bringing an NBA team back to Seattle.

"[I] am confident that with a little effort and creativity we can find a solution that meets our needs and the City’s/State’s desire to get a team back to Seattle without a large public outlay," wrote Hansen. The arena is one part of the equation (Key Arena isn't a suitable venue), and the other is part is how the city would acquire a team -- they've been watching developments in Sacramento, but the bottom line is that Seattle has no clear path to hosting an NBA team.

ESPN is reporting that Shawn Kemp will come out of retirement and play in Italy this season.

Kemp is 40 years old and fantasy owners have to be thankful that his return is not coming in the NBA. If it was, those of you over the age of 30 might be tempted to take a chance on him for some nostalgia.

Shawn Kemp, who will play in Italy next month, still has his sights set on returning to the NBA.

"I've still been in contact with a lot of teams. I played ball all summer," Kemp said. "Between you and me, I would love a chance to win a ring." He's got some legal issues to deal with stemming from drug charges and we'd be very surprised to see him in the NBA again.

Shawn Kemp didn't make it to his planned workout for the Bulls on Monday after visiting a sick family member in Elkhart, IN instead.

He virtually has no chance of making the team, and is an extreme longshot to land back in the NBA this year.

Ex-NBA star Shawn Kemp is scheduled to tryout for the Bulls this week.

We'd be shocked if Kemp landed with the Bulls, or any other NBA team for that matter. It's been three years since he played competitively and he has a stint in rehabilitation for cocaine abuse, two arrests for marijuana possession and weight problems working against him. Oh, and the fact he's 36 years old.

Shawn Kemp says that he has not done drugs since 2004 and that the marijuana found in his truck on Friday was "old" and he didn't know it was there.

"I don't think it's going to hurt me on playing, but from the fan's standpoint, it definitely hurts me," Kemp said of his latest arrest. "Because people are tired of hearing about this stuff. I'm tired of hearing about it, man. In all honesty, this one here probably affected me more than the last one did because I know what I've done since." Regardless, he says he's going to at least play in Europe next season if he doesn't sign with an NBA team.

Shawn Kemp was arrested in Houston and charged with misdemeanor possession for allegedly carrying less than two ounces of marijuana on Friday.

After countless posts on Rotoworld.com about how Kemp was getting in shape, cleaned up and ready to make a serious run at a return to the NBA, this should end future speculation that we'll see the 36-year-old in the league again.

Shawn Kemp is optimistic he will end up returning to the NBA in a Nuggets uniform next season.

The six-time All-Star hasn't played since the 2002-03 season with Orlando in large part because of weight problems and off-court issues, but after losing about 70 pounds he hopes to return. The 14-year veteran worked out at the Nuggets' free-agent camp last weekend.

Shawn Kemp is participating in the Nuggets' free-agent training camp that ends Monday and is reportedly in basketball shape again.

He's battled weight, alcohol and drugs over the past 10 years and hasn't played in the NBA since 2003, but it sounds like he may actually get a shot from a team needing a big man this year.

The Mavericks were denied a roster exception by the league, ending Shawn Kemp's chances for returning this season.

The team was seeking one because multiple players have been injured. A roster exception would have allowed the Mavericks to add a 16th player. Keith Van Horn was recently deemed out for the season.

Shawn Kemp has been invited to work out for the Mavericks Wednesday.

With Keith Van Horn sidelined the remainder of the season, Dallas is considering signing Kemp, George Lynch or possibly even Christian Laettner. "Shawn would be a proven NBA player at absolutely no risk to the Mavericks," said Tony Dutt, long-time agent for Kemp, who is said to be around 270 pounds now.

The Mavericks, hoping to receive a hardship clause from the NBA for Keith Van Horn, have made preliminary contact with Shawn Kemp.

If the waiver is granted, and the Mavs hope to know this week, a playoff-tested forward able to spell Dirk Nowitzki is the ideal candidate. George Lynch has also been asked to come in for an informal workout.

Shawn Kemp has lost about 50 pounds since he last played in the NBA three years ago, and he's ready to make a comeback.

"My love for the game is very, very high," Kemp said. There's an easy joke there, but you can use your imagination. He's 36 years old and apparently still has the aspirations of a kid fresh out of college. "I'm not playing just to make someone's roster. I'm not just playing to make a comeback. My hopes and dreams are to be in the Hall of Fame one day." While it's possible that he could try out with a few teams, the chances of him actually playing a meaningful role on an NBA team at this point are slim to none.

Shawn Kemp's agent plans on contacting several teams about signing the free agent, including Denver.

With Nene out for the season and Kenyon Martin dealing with continued knee pain, the Nuggets definitely should bolster their frontcourt. Kemp has lost 55 pounds. "I wouldn't discount anyone. There is that connection (with Karl). If anyone can bring it out of him, it's George. But it's nothing we've pursued," general manager Kiki Vandeweghe. The Raptors have also expressed interest.
