The Blazers opted not to waive Chris Kaman prior to Tuesday's deadline, which guarantees his $5 million salary for the 2015-16 season.
Kaman said in April that he hoped to return to Portland, saying that he'll help mentor Meyers Leonard despite being on the "downslope" of his career. Regardless of the Blazers' moves in free agency, Kaman won't get enough playing time to be a factor in fantasy leagues. Jun 30 - 6:53 PM

The Portland Trail Blazers are likely to exercise their team option on Chris Kaman for the 2015-16 regular season.

The Blazers are likely to wait until Tuesday's 2 PM deadline to exercise the option so that they can maintain flexibility to make a trade, but all indications are that they will pick up Kaman's $5 million player option. Kaman averaged 8.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 74 games with the Blazers in 2014-15 so while he's not a standard league fantasy option, he can still make a dent in deeper leagues.
Jun 30 - 11:57 AM

The Blazers have until the end of June to decide whether or not to pick up their team option on Chris Kaman's contract, and while he wants to return to Portland, he isn't concerned about his situation.

"Basically I’ll know June 30th," Kaman said. "Either they take it or they don’t. … Obviously there is a lot that is going to happen this summer in free agency with this team and all of our players." Kaman posted respectable averages of 8.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.7 blocks during the regular season, but the Blazers could be forced to shake things up based on what LaMarcus Aldridge decides to do in free agency. Regardless of what happens, Kaman is better suited for a limited role off the bench at this point in his career, so he won't be on the fantasy radar leading into next season.
May 9 - 9:14 AM

Chris Kaman said during his exit interview that while he's unsure whether or not the Trail Blazers will pick up his option for next season, he would be happy to return to Portland.

Kaman finally had a relatively healthy season this year, making it through 74 games with averages of 8.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game on 51.5 percent shooting from the field. He's a quality role player, and he fits well in Portland's system, but at this point in his career he's well off the radar in standard fantasy leagues. It'll be interesting to see if Portland elects to pick up his option worth $5 million for the 2015-16 season, but if they don't, that could translate to more minutes for Meyers Leonard.
Apr 30 - 5:35 PM

Chris Kaman (ankle) is being listed as probable for Game 4 against the Grizzlies on Monday.

Kaman will likely see his minutes in the teens, but he's not going to do enough on the stat sheet to matter in fantasy leagues. Kaman's minutes will come at the expense of Meyers Leonard.
Apr 26 - 5:39 PM

Chris Kaman (ankle) returned from a one-game absence and saw 17 minutes of action in Game 3 against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

Kaman finished with two points, six boards and one assist, but he was clearly hobbling and he probably shouldn't have played tonight. The veteran probably won't be close to 100 percent for the rest of the series, but we will continue to keep a close eye on his status in advance of Game 4 on Monday. For what it's worth, Kaman's ankle was noticeably swollen after the game, so it's admirable that he tried to play through the pain for his teammates.
Apr 26 - 2:08 AM

Chris Kaman (ankle) will play in Game 3 vs. the Grizzlies on Saturday.

He was held out of Game 2 and didn't practice on Friday, but he made it clear that he would be available tonight. Kaman isn't 100 percent, but he should see minutes in the teens which means that Joel Freeland may not be in the rotation. Meyers Leonard may also see less minutes.
Apr 25 - 10:46 PM

Chris Kaman (ankle) and Arron Afflalo (shoulder) are planning to play on Saturday in Game 3.

Kaman is listed as questionable and he said he didn't do anything in practice on Friday. "I know once I tape it and get the right drugs in me, everything will be good," Kaman said. "I’m ready to play tomorrow." He's likely looking at minutes in the teens and will bump Joel Freeland out of the rotation while taking away some time from Meyers Leonard.
Apr 24 - 7:44 PM

Chris Kaman (ankle) is questionable to play against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

His ankle was heavily taped at practice on Friday and he probably won't be 100 percent. Meyers Leonard will likely be the first big off the bench while Joel Freeland was in the rotation for just four minutes in Game 2. Fantasy owners can ignore this situation in almost all cases.
Apr 24 - 3:51 PM

Chris Kaman (ankle) will not play against the Grizzlies in Game 2 on Wednesday.

He has been on the injury report for a back issue, but he suffered this ankle injury in practice on Tuesday. Joel Freeland will likely be the backup center while we could see LaMarcus Aldridge and Meyers Leonard get some time at the five.
Apr 22 - 6:34 PM

Chris Kaman (back) finished an ugly road loss on Sunday with seven points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 14 minutes off Portland's bench.

The Blazers opened the game 7-of-29 from the field and never regained their footing, finishing 33.7 percent from the field including an 8-of-26 mark from downtown. Portland will need Kaman and Robin Lopez (two points, five rebounds) to step up if they hope to even their first-round series at 1-1 on Wednesday.
Apr 19 - 10:54 PM

Chris Kaman (back) is probable to play against the Grizzlies on Sunday.

He didn't play on Wednesday due to a lingering back injury. The Blazers are somewhat healthy up front as far as active players go, so expect Kaman to log minutes in the mid-teens. He won't be able to do much on offense with his low usage rate and will have to do his damage on the glass.
Apr 18 - 3:32 PM

Chris Kaman (back) is now doubtful for Wednesday's game vs. the Mavericks.

The Blazers want their veteran big man to be healthy with playoffs starting in a few days, so there is almost no shot that they risk playing him tonight. Meyers Leonard and Joel Freeland may see a few extra minutes off the bench tonight, but they aren't appealing options in most leagues.
Apr 15 - 1:25 PM

Chris Kaman is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game due to a back injury.

He sat out Monday's game to get some rest, and also because of a lingering thumb injury, so this back ailment is a new addition to his injury rolodex. With nothing at stake on Wednesday and the playoffs looming, it would be somewhat surprising to see Kaman in uniform.
Apr 14 - 7:12 PM

Chris Kaman (rest, thumb) will not play vs. the Nets on Monday.

Portland wants their veteran big man to be fresh for the playoffs, so it makes sense to leave him home. With LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum also out, Joel Freeland and Meyers Leonard will log heavy minutes in the frontcourt. Kaman isn't a reliable option in most leagues.
