Leandro Barbosa has ditched the cast on his hand in favor of a brace.
It's a sign of tangible progress for the artist formerly known as the Brazilian Blur. Barbosa was slapped with a 4-6 week table after fracturing his hand in early March and is now targeting the playoffs for his return. He won't travel with the Suns to Portland Friday. Apr 2 - 8:25 PM

Date:

Leandro Barbosa (hand fracture) will miss approximately 4-6 weeks but he will not require surgery.

Barbosa could return for the end of the regular season and the playoffs, but his injury is a tough break for a Suns team just half a game ahead of the Grizzlies for the eighth seed out West. Ish Smith played more minutes in his absence on Tuesday, but he's not a promising long-term pickup with Eric Bledsoe (knee) possibly returning this week.
Mar 5 - 9:28 AM

Leandro Barbosa suffered a left hand fracture against the Clippers on Tuesday, according to the Suns broadcast.

He hurt his hand early in the game and X-rays confirmed Barbosa's injury. There have been metacarpal breaks all over the place this season and Barbosa may also be dealing with that issue. He'll likely miss a month and the Suns will have to go on without him. Ish Smith has stepped up for the Suns sans LB.
Mar 4 - 10:41 PM

Leandro Barbosa (toe) returned to action on Sunday with seven points and two assists in 13 minutes off the Suns' bench.

He wound up missing five games with his injury, and his return gives Phoenix another fleet-footed guard to help relieve Goran Dragic and Ish Smith. The Suns have a tough, road-heavy schedule the rest of the regular season, but they hold a 1 1/2 game lead over Memphis for a playoff spot and should soon get a boost with Eric Bledsoe (knee) playing 5-on-5 and seemingly on the verge of a return.
Mar 3 - 9:09 AM

Leandro Barbosa (toe) is expected to play Friday.

Barbosa will end up missing four games with his sprained big toe. Look for him to be eased back in with 15-20 minutes in his usual reserve role. Owners of Gerald Green and streamers of Ish Smith shouldn't be worried.
Feb 28 - 1:20 PM

Leandro Barbosa (toe) will not play against the Jazz on Wednesday.

His toe injury has kept him out since Feb. 19 and he will miss his fourth game tonight. Not having Barbosa means coach Jeff Hornacek will have to give Ish Smith a ton of minutes because Goran Dragic (ankle) is unlikely to play.
Feb 26 - 5:42 PM

A toe injury will keep Leandro Barbosa out of Tuesday's game against Minnesota.

He also missed Sunday's game with the same injury and is day-to-day.
Feb 25 - 8:58 PM

Leandro Barbosa (sprained big toe) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves.

Barbosa didn't participate in Tuesday's shootaround and was declared "probably out" by coach Jeff Hornacek for Tuesday's game against Minnesota. Ish Smith and Archie Goodwin will get extra run Tuesday night and should make for solid fill-ins in deep leagues.
Feb 25 - 1:29 PM

Leandro Barbosa (toe) will not play against the Rockets on Sunday night.

The good news is that the swelling in his toe has gone down. He should be considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Wolves. For tonight, Archie Goodwin and Ish Smith will get some more burn.
Feb 23 - 7:03 PM

Leandro Barbosa (toe sprain) did not practice on Saturday.

He did not play against the Spurs on Friday night and has also been dealing with some shoulder issues. After staying somewhat healthy earlier in his career, Barbosa has hit a rough patch of injuries including an ACL tear last season. Eric Bledsoe (knee) is getting closer to a return, which essentially makes the Brazilian Blur obsolete.
Feb 22 - 3:01 PM

Leandro Barbosa (toe) is questionable for Friday's game against the Spurs.

Barbosa sprained his big toe against the Celtics on Wednesday. If active, he'll play his usual 16-22 minutes off the bench. Outside of Barbosa and Eric Bledsoe (knee), the Suns are completely healthy.
Feb 21 - 2:08 PM

Leandro Barbosa played through some shoulder pain in Wednesday's game against the Rockets, finishing with 13 points, two boards, two assists and two 3-pointers in 20 minutes.

He said his injury has been bothering him prior to this game and he was coming in struggling before this game, making just 20 percent of his 3-point shots on the season before his 2-of-4 tonight. Barbosa has 13 points in back-to-back games and is worth a look as a low-upside play in deep leagues.
Feb 6 - 12:04 AM

Leandro Barbosa hit 3-of-6 shots for 13 points and two assists in 23 minutes on Tuesday.

Barbosa was 7-of-8 from the line and the 13 points were the most he's scored in his last eight games. He's worth keeping an eye on in Phoenix, but as long as Goran Dragic and Gerald Green are healthy, he's not going to see enough minutes to be worth owning in most leagues.
Feb 5 - 1:08 AM

The Suns will sign Leandro Barbosa for the rest of the season.

His second 10-day contract expired on Monday night, but the veteran has been impressive enough that Phoenix will retain him on a veteran's minimum contract. He's averaging 8.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 21.4 minutes per game, and doesn't have fantasy appeal in standard leagues.
Jan 28 - 9:40 AM

Leandro Barbosa (sprained shoulder) returned from a two-game absence on Sunday with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists vs. the visiting Nuggets.

The veteran SG played with a protective sleeve on his right shoulder but that didn't seem to affect him in 27 minutes, as he displayed his customary speed and ability to break down defenders in the open court. He recently signed a second 10-day contract but the Suns may ultimately sign him for the season with Eric Bledsoe (knee) out indefinitely.
