Jeanie Buss publicly backed Luke Walton during a recent interview, saying he is the "Lakers' coach, period."
"Absolutely. Luke Walton is the Lakers coach, period," said Buss when asked if Walton will remain the coach through the regular season, free agency and the summer. "There's no worrying about it, there's no speculation. He's done a terrific job. He is somebody that the entire front office, the organization is behind." It took a while for Lakers' management to publicly endorse Walton after LaVar Ball's divisive comments, but it sounds like he's in no danger of losing his job anytime soon. Jan 24 - 11:29 AM

Luke Walton's job status is "not even a conversation," according to a Lakers source of Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Lonzo Ball's father, LaVar Ball recently attacked the Lakers' head coach, saying he had lost the locker room and that the Lakers' players "don't want to play" for Walton, but Los Angeles management is not taking those remarks seriously. For what it's worth when Lonzo was asked if he liked playing for Luke, he responded: "I'll play for anybody... my job is to play basketball, I don't decide who the coach is."

Lakers coach Luke Walton said he will make a change to his starting lineup on Friday vs. the Suns.

He wouldn't say what the changes would be, so we'll have to wait until tip-off. If we had to guess, Luol Deng would be an obvious candidate to move to the second unit after playing 13 quiet minutes in the opener.

Coach Luke Walton said the Lakers don't have an alpha in their offense and he's hoping ideally one of the young players can grow into that role.

Walton wasn't totally discouraged from Wednesday's 39-point loss because his team just didn't show up in the fourth. He also said the groups will be "by committee right now" for his team, so he could mix up who plays.

Luke Walton said one issue currently facing his young Lakers team is that some guys "are not ready to pass."

Think that's a clear enough message to D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson? We do. Walton has been vocal previously about wanting to see better decision-making from his young guards—specifically knowing when to get buckets and when to get teammates more involved—and it's an area of improvement for both Russell and Clarkson. If the Lakers are going to make the Russell-Clarkson backcourt work long-term, it's a good area of concentration for Walton and his staff to emphasize.

New Lakers head coach Luke Walton hinted that his team will target some veterans in free agency.

"You need some vets for sure; some leadership on the court," Walton said. "Even if it’s vets that aren’t playing big minutes, as a coaching staff it’s our job to hold them accountable. As a player, you learn just as much if not more from the vets on your team when you’re young and trying to find your way on how to do things the right way and how to work and what should be done on long road trips to take care of yourself — and all these things. A lot of that comes from veteran leadership. I think that we will be searching out some guys like that. Obviously with the cap space we have, we’ll be searching out some All-Star caliber players as well. You kind of try to make a nice mixture of all that."

Luke Walton stated during his introductory press conference that the Lakers will play "an uptempo game."

Walton also said that he wants to give his players more "freedom," and he wants to create an environment where his guys are "happy to come to work and practice," so he more or less is striving to be the exact opposite of Byron Scott. Walton will likely be incorporating a lot of the things he learned in Golden State, going with an uptempo and free flowing offense, which is good news for guys like Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell.

Coach Luke Walton said he'll be focusing on the offensive side and will bring in a defensive coach to his staff.

He's really going to try to incorporate the Warriors-style offense to his new team. The problem is the Lakers personnel isn't quite as strong as Golden State. The new offense should help out guys like D'Angelo Russell.

Luke Walton is expected to receive a five-year contract worth approximately $25 million to become the Lakers head coach.

In other words, he and Steve Kerr can now share something else in common. The Lakers should introduce Walton at a press conference shortly after Golden State's season concludes, but that could very well not be until the middle of June.

Coach Luke Walton said he will not run the triangle offense next season.

He said the triangle is not the "most appropriate" offense for the players on the roster. Walton will likely try to incorporate more movement and spacing, which could bode well for D'Angelo Russell.

The Lakers hired Luke Walton as their head coach on a multi-year contract.

Well, this helps explain why the Lakers dumped Byron Scott so late. Walton went 39-4 this season, including an NBA record 24-0 start. He was on the 2009 and 2010 Lakers title teams and is a 10-year vet. Walton will finish this season as the assistant to Steve Kerr before he takes over with his new team. This is a marvelous start for the Lakers after a couple down seasons to get the hottest coaching candidate out there. The next big day for the Lakers will be on lottery day because their draft pick is top-three protected (55 percent chance to keep).

Luke Walton is reportedly not interested in taking over as the head coach of the Kings.

The Kings are reportedly interested in interviewing Walton for the job, but with the Lakers, Rockets and Knicks also vying for his services, he has more attractive options out there than the dysfunctional Sacramento franchise.

The Rockets have received permission to interview Luke Walton for their vacant head coach position.

Walton helped lead the Warriors to a hot start this season and has no shortage of suitors heading into the offseason. While he'll also interview with the Lakers, Walton will have his choice of jobs and is all but assured of being a head coach somewhere besides Golden State next season.

The Lakers have received permission to interview Luke Walton for their vacant head coach position.

Walton was promoted to lead assist with Golden State last summer and he helped guide the Warriors to a tremendous start this season, raising his profile around the league. He's already familiar with the Lakers' organization and it will be interesting to see if their interest in Walton is mutual.
