Veteran WR Ike Hilliard will retire from football after signing a one-day contract with the Giants on Friday.
The seventh overall pick in the 1997 draft never managed to top 1,000 yards in a season, yet still finished his career with 6,397 yards and 35 TDs on 546 receptions. The 12-year veteran is an avowed fantasy basketball fan, checking in regularly to read Dr. A and the Rotoworld basketball team. Fri, Jul 30, 2010 08:50:00 AM

Free agent Ike Hilliard, released by Tampa Bay on Wednesday, plans to continue his playing career.

Hilliard would have a lot better shot at latching on if Jon Gruden was still in coaching. The 33-year-old might get a tryout in someone's camp for cheap.

Bucs released WR Ike Hilliard.

The Gruden (and Rotoworld) favorite is as smart and tough as anyone, but his 9.0 yards-per-catch average was too low to keep. Hilliard averaged 55 grabs the last two seasons, but the Bucs will smartly go young at the position. Hilliard, 33, will struggle to find a gig elsewhere.

Ike Hilliard had 20 yards on two receptions in Week 14

Ike Hilliard (head) practiced Wednesday and coach Jon Gruden expects him to play Sunday despite nagging headaches.

"He's going to play, knowing Ike," Gruden said. "He's special; he's really special." Even if Hilliard is a go, he shouldn't be counted on in fantasy leagues. He's behind Antonio Bryant, Joey Galloway, and Michael Clayton.
