Free agent TE Colt Lyerla is fully recovered from his knee injury.
Lyerla injured multiple knee ligaments in training camp with the Packers last year. He recently posted a video that shows him running routes and catching passes in an attempt to get back in the NFL. Lyerla's September arrest for DUI has also been dismissed. Despite elite physical tools, Lyerla's character concerns remain a major obstacle in his quest to sign a big-league contract. Free agent TE Colt Lyerla was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants Saturday morning in Washington County (OR).

The arrest comes just under one year after Lyerla was popped for cocaine possession in Eugene, Oregon. Lyerla is "suspected of being high on either illegal drugs or prescription medications." It's a sad story for a player with elite physical tools, but who continually is making terrible decisions. Undrafted out of Oregon, Lyerla spent training camp with the Packers before suffering a knee injury. He was released on August 26.

Packers waived TE Colt Lyerla with an injury settlement.

Lyerla sees the open market after all. The Packers clearly weren't high on the UDFA out of Oregon after he showed next to nothing during camp. Lyerla is a plus athlete at 6'4/247 with 4.61 speed. But we wouldn't expect teams to come knocking down his door after Lyerla wasn't claimed off waivers the first time. Lyerla also isn't healthy after injuring multiple knee ligaments.

Packers undrafted TE Colt Lyerla (knee) passed through waivers unclaimed and is now on injured reserve.

Lyerla injured his knee earlier in training camp and was waived/injured Tuesday. He's an intriguing talent who could have drawn some looks on waivers. Considering he wasn't signed as a priority undrafted free agent, it's not a surprise he wasn't scooped up by another team. Lyerla will "redshirt" as a rookie.

Packers TEs coach Jerry Fontenot believes TE Colt Lyerla (knee, injured reserve) could eventually be moved to fullback.

Fontenot believes the move would "certainly (seem) to fit his wheelhouse." It's bizarre to hear of a 6-foot-4 tight end with 4.61 speed potentially being moved to fullback, but it's a moot point for 2014, as Lyerla will miss the entire season. There's a chance Lyerla will be riding the pine for another team, as he's been exposed to waivers after being waived/injured on Tuesday.

Packers waived/injured TE Colt Lyerla.

He'll revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers. It's far from a guarantee, as Lyerla is one of this season's highest-upside undrafted free agents. Standing in at 6-foot-4, 247 pounds with 4.61 wheels, Lyerla is a potential mismatch. He only went undrafted because of (admittedly serious) character concerns. Recovering from a torn PCL and MCL, Lyerla is staring at "at least" six weeks of rehab, and likely more. He'd have a fighting chance at a roster spot next year if the Pack can get him through waivers and on I.R.

Packers UDFA TE Colt Lyerla will not require surgery for the torn MCL and PCL in his right knee.

Lyerla will miss "multiple weeks," and is out for the remainder of camp. It's possible Lyerla could return this season if he avoids I.R., though he doesn't project as more than Green Bay's No. 4 tight end. The Packers could try stashing Lyerla on the practice squad and letting him rehab. A developmental move tight end with 4.61 speed, Lyerla should draw interest if exposed to waivers.

Packers UDFA TE Colt Lyerla has a torn MCL and PCL in his right knee.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Lyerla could be headed to injured reserve or waived/injured. Despite his big name, Lyerla has little Dynasty value.

Packers undrafted TE Colt Lyerla will miss multiple "weeks" with a knee injury.

Lyerla was injured over the weekend. It was initially described as a "sprain." Teams don't have to go into specifics with injuries during camp, so it's all we have to go off. Lyerla was already bringing up the bottom of the depth chart before going down, so the missed time is going to put him even further behind the eight ball. Lyerla can't afford to miss the remainder of camp and preseason.

The "initial diagnosis" on Packers UDFA TE Colt Lyerla's leg injury is "just a sprain."

The Packers are still awaiting MRI results to confirm their thinking, however. Lyerla is a superb athlete out of Oregon, albeit with a troubling off-field history. Camp reports suggest Lyerla wasn't standing out before his injury.

Packers UDFA TE Colt Lyerla will undergo an MRI on his leg injury suffered in Saturday's practice.

Beat reporter Rob Demovsky calls Lyerla's injury "potentially serious." Lyerla was spotted on crutches following Packers Family Night, walking "slowly and with a limp" when he wasn't donning them. If Lyerla has a multi-week injury, the Packers could consider waiving him injured to stash him on I.R.

Packers undrafted TE Colt Lyerla suffered a leg injury in Saturday's scrimmage.

Lyerla was carted off and spotted on crutches after practice. This has potential to be a serious injury. More will be known when the Packers update his status.

Packers undrafted rookie TE Colt Lyerla was relegated to the scout team on the third day of training camp.

Lyerla is at the bottom of the depth chart in a group that includes seven tight ends. The good news for Lyerla is that the tight end spot in Green Bay is the most wide-open position on the team. Lyerla has all the measurables and talent to make a quick climb once the pads come on and preseason games get under way. It's a reminder that Lyerla is a classic boom-or-bust prospect.

Packers undrafted rookie TE Colt Lyerla's ex-teammate from Oregon and current Eagles WR Josh Huff believes Lyerla can be better than Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski.

The praise doesn't stop with Huff. "Just a monster," Oregon CB Terrance Mitchell said of Lyerla. "Colt is a beast. I don't know how to explain it. A monster, a beast....He could be anything he wants to be." Lyerla went undrafted after a tumultuous college career that saw him quit the team four games into last season. He then got into drugs and was arrested for cocaine possession. The Packers took a chance on the ultra-talented Lyerla. At 6'3/242, he runs a 4.61 forty and posted a 39-inch vertical. Lyerla could make a year-one impact at an unsettled position in Green Bay. He needs to be owned in all Dynasty formats.

Packers signed Oregon TE Colt Lyerla.

Lyerla (6-foot-3 3/8, 242) was a five-star recruit who never panned out at Oregon due to off-field issues, most of which can be read via a quick Google search. His most recent arrest occurred last October for cocaine possession, to which he pled guilty. Lyerla finished his college career with 34 catches for 565 yards (16.6 YPR) and 11 touchdowns, quitting the team after four games last fall. He ran 4.61 at the Combine with a 39-inch vertical and 10-foot-8 broad jump. Lyerla theoretically offers Aaron Hernandezian "move" tight end tools, but could just as easily be out of the NFL in a few years. He's a classic boom-or-bust prospect.
