Vikings MLB Eric Kendricks (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 9.

Kendricks didn’t practice all week and remains in the league’s protocol. His loss is a concern to a Vikings defense coming off their worst game. Audie Cole and Emmanuel Lamur will pick up Kendricks' snaps.

Vikings MLB Eric Kendricks sat out Wednesday's practice with a concussion.

Kendricks was not reported with an injury during Monday night's game, so the symptoms must have popped up Tuesday or Wednesday morning. He is now in a race to be ready for Week 9 against the Lions. Emmanuel Lamur would likely see a bump in snaps if Kendricks is forced to sit.

Vikings MLB Eric Kendricks has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1.

The Vikings defense had a monster day in Tennessee, scoring two defensive touchdowns, including Kendricks' 77-yard pick-six. He also was credited with six tackles and a tackle for loss. It's been settled that Kendricks will man the MIKE for coach Mike Zimmer, making him a strong IDP player.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said sophomore LB Eric Kendricks' position is still "up in the air."

Kendricks excelled at middle linebacker last season, but he was drafted to play the weak side. "That’s still a tough question," Zimmer said. "I do think he’d be a good player [outside]. I always have a little bit of a concern about moving a guy that played pretty well to another position." With free agent WLB Chad Greenway expected to return, Kendricks should stay in the middle at least one more season.

Vikings declared MLB Eric Kendricks, C Nick Easton, DT Kenrick Ellis, QB Taylor Heinicke, CB Josh Robinson, T Jeremiah Sirles and DT Justin Trattou inactive for Week 10 against the Raiders.

Kendricks (ribs) returned to a limited practice on Friday but was always a long shot to play this week. His absence will make Latavius Murray's life a little easier on Sunday. Anthony Barr (hand), Teddy Bridgewater (concussion), Sharrif Floyd (knee/ankle), Linval Joseph (foot), Terence Newman (concussion), Brian Robison (ankle) and Marcus Sherels (shoulder) are all active for the Vikes.

Vikings rookie MLB Eric Kendricks is expected to be an every-down player following the trade of Gerald Hodges to San Francisco.

Kendricks had been steadily eating into Hodges' snap total before the bye week, but now he is the clear lead at middle linebacker. Kendricks has struggled in coverage, but he has recorded 19 tackles and a sack in just four games of part-time work. He is worth a look as a LB3 in IDP leagues.

Vikings rookie MLB Eric Kendricks has yet to win a three-down role.

Kendricks posted a decent fantasy day in Week 3, posting nine solo tackles, but was only on the field for 39-of-74 snaps. Chad Greenway (20 snaps) got the start on the weakside, while MLB Gerald Hodges played 37 snaps. While playing less than 65 percent of defensive snaps, Kendricks is a risky play in IDP leagues, and his poor play in coverage (has allowed 12-of-14) isn't going to earn him the starting gig any time soon.

Vikings rookie MLB Eric Kendricks worked with the first-team defense in Monday's practice.

Audie Cole had been working with the first-team defense throughout training camp and started the first two preseason games. Kendricks got the nod in the third preseason game, and now appears to have a leg up in the competition. Kendricks is also seeing work with Chad Greenway in nickel.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said second-round pick Eric Kendricks was "ahead of most rookies" at minicamp in June.

The brother of Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks, Eric played in a pro-style defense under Jim Mora at UCLA and has a chance to be an every-down player at Mike linebacker in Zimmer's scheme as a rookie. To play in sub-packages, Kendricks will likely have to show better coverage skills than WLB Chad Greenway in practice. Kendricks offers immediate LB2 upside in IDP leagues.

The Vikings envision second-round pick Eric Kendricks as their middle linebacker as a rookie.

Coach Mike Zimmer did leave open the possibility of Kendricks moving to the weak side down the road. Although Kendricks isn't a true run-thumper inside, he is highly athletic and instinctive, and can cover running backs on flat routes. Kendricks has a good chance to make an LB2/3 impact in Minnesota.

Vikings signed No. 45 overall pick ILB Eric Kendricks to a four-year, $5.155 million contract.

The deal includes a $2.009 million signing bonus. The 2014 Butkus Award winner as college football's top linebacker, Kendricks is an explosive athlete. He displayed 4.61 speed at the Combine to go along with a 38-inch vertical and 10-foot-4 broad jump. The younger brother of Philly's Mychal Kendricks, Eric is not only a striker in the run game, but can also drop back into coverage. He'll make an immediate rookie impact.
