Ravens declared RB Ty Montgomery, QB Robert Griffin III, RT James Hurst, WR Jordan Lasley, LT Ronnie Stanley, TE Maxx Williams and OLB Tim Williams inactive for Week 9 against the Steelers.
Montgomery arrived earlier this week in a trade from Green Bay. It may take another week of practice reps before the Ravens are comfortable enough to insert him into a game setting. OG Bradley Bozeman (calf), RB Alex Collins (foot), CB Marlon Humphrey (thigh), S Tony Jefferson (hamstring), OG Alex Lewis (neck) and LB C.J. Mosley (thigh) are all active for Baltimore's Week 9 grudge match with Pittsburgh. Nov 4 - 11:36 AM

Ravens acquired RB Ty Montgomery from the Packers in exchange for a 2020 seventh-round pick.

The sometimes receiver has one of the league's most versatile skill-sets for a running back but was seeing limited work in the Packers' backfield, touching the ball just 41 times in seven contests. Montgomery had a few monster games over the past three years in Green Bay but also had trouble staying healthy. He will add a new element to a Ravens backfield that has traditionally had a receiving threat but not this season. TyMont is a massive upgrade on Buck Allen. The move comes just two days after a Montgomery special teams fumble cost the Packers dearly in Los Angeles. It also clears the deck for Aaron Jones in Green Bay.
Oct 30 - 3:16 PM

Ty Montgomery rushed twice for six yards in the Packers' Week 8 loss to the Rams, adding a two-yard reception.

Montgomery's presence was only felt on special teams, where he committed what amounted to a game-ending fumble on a late kick return. Montgomery has only 14 offensive touches over the Packers' past three games, removing him from the fantasy radar.
Oct 28 - 8:33 PM

Ty Montgomery rushed four times for 12 yards and one touchdown in the Packers' Week 6 win over the 49ers.

He added two catches for 10 yards on three targets. Montgomery capped the opening drive with a two-yard touchdown that originally credited as a passing score but later ruled a lateral. Therefore, Montgomery got the "rushing" score. Montgomery doesn't belong on fantasy rosters right now.
Oct 16 - 12:44 AM

Ty Montgomery rushed four times for 15 yards in the Packers' Week 5 loss to the Lions, adding a 23-yard catch on three targets.

Montgomery got a ton of playing time in the second half with the Packers in catchup mode. He has no fantasy value outside of deeper PPR leagues.
Oct 7 - 5:42 PM

Ty Montgomery caught 2-of-3 targets for 56 yards in the Packers' Week 4 win over the Bills, adding five rushes for 18 additional yards.

Most of Montgomery's yardage came when he got a free release down the left sideline for a 43-yard catch in the first quarter. The Pack's backfield remained a three-man rotation this afternoon, with Aaron Jones winning both the touch and yardage battles. Montgomery will continue to struggle for value outside of PPR leagues.
Sep 30 - 5:48 PM

Ty Montgomery caught 6-of-7 targets for 48 yards in the Packers' Week 3 loss to the Redskins, adding four carries for 16 additional yards.

With Aaron Rodgers' receivers struggling to make big plays, TyMont finally got involved as a pass catcher/outlet. Both his 10 touches and 64 yards led the Packers' three-man backfield. Especially with Randall Cobb struggling, the Pack figure to work on getting Montgomery more involved on a weekly basis. The Bills are an appetizing Week 4 matchup.
Sep 23 - 6:29 PM

Ty Montgomery rushed five times for 31 yards and caught 1-of-2 targets for nine yards in the Packers' Week 2 tie with the Vikings.

It was an improvement on the four touches Montgomery saw in Week 1, but he still has been mostly uninvolved through two weeks. More worryingly, Aaron Jones is due back from suspension in Week 3. Montgomery is not a must-roster player in standard scoring.
Sep 16 - 5:36 PM

Ty Montgomery rushed two times for seven yards and caught 2-of-3 passes for 21 yards in Week 1 against Chicago.

Montgomery played close to the same amount of snaps as Jamaal Williams but saw 11 fewer touches. He wasn't higher than the No. 5 pass game option, with Geronimo Allison out targeting him. Montgomery could have some big weeks when the Packers are playing from behind, but he's hard to trust as a weekly fantasy option.
Sep 10 - 12:11 AM

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Ty Montgomery's foot injury is "nothing of a serious nature."

Montgomery started Friday's preseason game with Brett Hundley and the rest of the second-team offense but was forced to exit early. Assuming he's healthy to start the year, he's the clear-cut No. 2 behind starter Jamaal Williams. Aaron Jones will likely push for more carries following his initial two-game suspension to begin the season, but Montgomery will continue to be utilized as the club's third-down back.
Aug 25 - 8:53 AM

Ty Montgomery exited Friday's preseason game versus the Raiders with a foot injury.

Montgomery received reps to start the game with Brett Hundley and the Packers' second-team offense Friday but headed to the locker room early with a foot injury. His status at this time is unknown. Montgomery is projected to open the season as Green Bay's No. 2 back behind Jamaal Williams, but the pending severity of his injury could open the door for Devante Mays or preseason standout Joel Bouagnon to make the team. Aaron Jones will likely compete with Williams to start once he returns from suspension in Week 3.
Aug 24 - 11:16 PM

ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes Ty Montgomery has worked as the third-down back early in training camp.

According to Demovsky, Jamaal Williams has handled the majority of the "normal down-and-distance situations" while Montgomery has been in during "two-minute and no-huddle drives." Aaron Jones, who is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury and will serve a two-game suspension to start the season, should push Williams for the early-down work, but the passing-down job should be Montgomery's as long as he can stay healthy, making him a solid pick at his ninth-round ADP.

Jul 30 - 12:40 PM

ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes Ty Montgomery appears set for a "significant role in the offense."

Demovsky added Montgomery "didn't appear to lose any ground" to Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones during OTAs. "We have to take advantage of Ty's skills, and there's no question about that," coach Mike McCarthy said. "The offense is suited for that." While it still seems more likely Williams or Jones wins the early-down role, Montgomery is clearly not going away. He could end up being a value in the double-digit rounds.

Jun 11 - 9:36 AM

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said people will "see a bigger, stronger Ty Montgomery this year."

Montgomery stuck around in Green Bay over the offseason to work with Packers strength and conditioning coordinator Mark Lovat in hopes of improving his durability. "I know that I can be a really good football player; I just need to stay healthy," Montgomery said. "I’m looking forward to getting one full healthy season under my belt." Unlikely to get true lead-back workloads with Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones also vying for touches, Montgomery should have a better shot to stay healthy this season, but that competition also makes him much less interesting from a fantasy perspective.

Apr 12 - 9:17 AM

Packers coach Mike McCarthy suggested Ty Montgomery could become more of a "hybrid" receiver-running back in 2018.

Drafted to play receiver out of Stanford in 2015, Montgomery instead spent most of the last two seasons at running back. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams showed more as runners last season, however, so Montgomery's role seems likely to be tweaked. If the Packers release Randall Cobb, we'd be interested to see if Montgomery would be given an opportunity to earn snaps at slot receiver.
