Free agent Aaron Brooks continues to work out every morning in case an NFL team calls.
He says teams have called with interest, but nothing serious. Considering some of the quarterbacks in the league, we're shocked no team gave Brooks a backup job. He's no leader, but he's got a huge arm and a 123:92 TD:INT ratio for his career. Wed, Jul 23, 2008 09:38:00 AM

The Packers don't appear to be interested in signing free agent Aaron Brooks, who worked out for the team on Wednesday.

"He had a (pec) injury from last year," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's still rehabbing from that, so he didn't throw the ball as well as he's capable of throwing it." Brooks, 31, knows McCarthy's system well and has a history with the organization, so he could be a third QB option when healthy.

Free agent Aaron Brooks worked out for the Packers on Wednesday.

He was joined by, among others, ex-Cardinals QB Rohan Davey and WR Johnny Quinn. The Packers could be looking to add a third quarterback for the stretch run. Brooks has played in coach Mike McCarthy's system before.

The Steelers aren't expected to sign free agent Aaron Brooks.

The team called Brooks' recent visit "exploratory" and says its roster is "set for now." Brooks could become an option if Charlie Batch is injured in camp.

The Steelers reportedly had Aaron Brooks in for a visit last week.

He would potentially compete with Charlie Batch for the backup job. We may be in the minority, but we think Brooks would be an upgrade on many backups in the league. Last year's Raiders team would have made anyone look terrible. Atlanta hasn't shown any interest that we know of.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy denies discussing the prospect of bringing free agent Aaron Brooks to Green Bay as Brett Favre's backup.

McCarthy coached Brooks in New Orleans. "As far as Aaron and how he'd fit in, that's something I haven't given any thought to. He's obviously a guy that's played in the system that could probably add some value to your program."

Raiders released Aaron Brooks Thursday after they declined to pay a $5 million roster bonus on his contract.

Brooks, 31, was a passable NFL quarterback for the first five years of his career, but he's struggled badly the last two seasons for New Orleans and Oakland. Brooks is still young and has plenty of starting experience. Behind Damon Huard, there may not be a better unrestricted free agent quarterback, but Brooks should only get offers to be backup. He'd do best in a West Coast system like in Minnesota or Tampa Bay. The Raiders are now freed to draft a quarterback or potentially look for a veteran in the trade market.

Aaron Brooks completed 15-of-26 passes for 136 yards and an interception in Week 17.

The pick was a classic Brooks miscue, seemingly thrown on purpose to New York. In the end Brooks was better than Andrew Walter this season, but that's not saying much. With only three scores and eight picks on the year, Oakland will only take Brooks back at a reduced rate. A.B. would make a fine backup in a West Coast system.

Raiders head coach Art Shell confirmed Friday that Aaron Brooks (neck) hasn't suffered any setbacks and is prepared to start on Sunday.

Brooks was down last week after being called "probable" but had been missing practice. He has worked fully all through this week.

Brooks is all but certain to start the Raiders' season finale.

Aaron Brooks (questionable, neck) practiced fully again Thursday.

He should be geared up to start against the Jets in what could be his final game as a Raider, although there is talk that if Art Shell stays, Oakland might cut Brooks, then offer him a one-year deal to come back.

Aaron Brooks (questionable, neck) expects to start in Week 17.

Raiders coach Art Shell has made it known that Brooks will get the call if he's healthy. Brooks practiced without restrictions on Wednesday.

Raiders coach Art Shell says Aaron Brooks will start Sunday, if healthy.

Brooks' neck stiffened up late last week and got worse on game day. In his eight starts Andrew Walter's TD-to-INT ratio is 3:13, he's lost nine fumbles, and been sacked 46 times, but he threw the ball better vs. the Chiefs and it would make sense to give him the nod with Brooks uncertain to return after the season. Maybe Shell just wants to go out a winner.

Raiders declared Aaron Brooks their third QB on Saturday night.

Andrew Walter got the nod. Brooks appears to have been deactivated due to his neck injury, despite being listed as probable. WRs Randy Moss and Jerry Porter, RB LaMont Jordan, CB Tyrone Poole, G Brad Badger, G Corey Hulsey, and TE James Adkisson are Oakland's inactives.

Aaron Brooks (neck) missed a portion of practice again Friday, but was not downgraded from his "probable" listing.

That means A.B. is "virtually certain to play" but we're worried Andrew Walter might end up seeing snaps against Kansas City. Lucky owners of the Chiefs' fantasy team defense should welcome Walter's presence.
