Redskins released DT Cornelius Griffin.
Beat writer Rick Maese points out that the Redskins "are running out of players" after Thursday's flurry of roster cuts. The reality is Griffin, 33, was never going to last with an impending $5.25 million salary and no clear fit in the 3-4 system. He's been a one-gap penetrator for his entire career. The Redskins reportedly plan to keep DT Cornelius Griffin for 2009 despite his $6.16 million cap number.

Griffin is no longer more than a wave three-technique, but Washington's lack of depth at his position makes him too valuable to part with. Griffin could still lose major snaps if Lorenzo Alexander makes strides this offseason.

Redskins DT Cornelius Griffin could reportedly be a salary cap casualty this off-season.

Griffin carries a $6.16 million cap charge, which is a problem with the injury-plagued tackle looking like a rotational player at this stage of his career. Beat writer Jason La Canfora expects the Redskins to show interest in Albert Haynesworth if the Titans don't lock him up.

Redskins DT Cornelius Griffin (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 8.

Griffin, 31, hasn't had more than six sacks in a season since 2004 and with a $6.16 million cap number, may still be asked to take a cut in pay. Blache also intends to upgrade Washington's down line rotation via April's draft.

"I was hurting," Griffin said. "It was something that just came up in warmups. It's something I've had since junior college. The good thing was that we got the win. We've got some division games coming up, so I've got to rock and roll. I'll be okay."
