Raiders signed QB J.T. O'Sullivan.
Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) has yet to be placed on injured reserve, but this is the latest sign that the move is coming. The journeyman O'Sullivan will be Oakland's third quarterback behind Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller. Thu, Dec 2, 2010 05:03:00 PM

Chargers released QB J.T. O'Sullivan.

In order to carry an extra kicker, the Chargers have downsized their QB depth chart. They'll keep only Billy Volek behind Philip Rivers going forward.

Chargers declared third QB J.T. O'Sullivan, G Louis Vasquez, DE Vaughn Martin, LB Brandon Siler, LB Larry English, CB Fred Bennett, S Tyrone Carter and S Darrell Stuckey inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Shawne Merriman is active after sitting out last week with a calf injury. Ryan Mathews is active again but is expected to share the load with Mike Tolbert.

Chargers signed QB J.T. O'Sullivan to a one-year contract.

It's never a bad idea to carry three active quarterbacks when your left tackle is threatening to hold out for the entire year. O'Sullivan, though, was so bad in the preseason that Jordan Palmer beat him out. Ideally, Billy Volek will stay healthy if Philip Rivers goes down with an injury.

Bengals released QB J.T. O'Sullivan.

An easy call for the Bungles. On top of being due an exorbitant $1.3 million salary, O'Sullivan was clearly outplayed by third-string lifer Jordan Palmer in the preseason. It says quite a bit for O'Sullivan that the Bengals are now going with noodle-armed rookie Dan LeFevour over him. Unfortunately, Palmer is now the primary backup. Carson had better not get hurt.

John O'Sullivan completed just 3-of-8 passes for 31 yards in relief of Carson Palmer during the Bengals' Week 17 loss to the Jets.

O'Sullivan took over for Palmer in the third quarter and looked helpless against the Jets' dominant defense. He was sacked three times, coughed up two fumbles, and will return to backup duties in the playoffs.

J.T. O'Sullivan finished 10-of-13 for 141 yards and one touchdown against the Patriots in the Bengals preseason opener.

O'Sullivan's backup job appears safe for now as third-stringer Jordan Palmer was just 2-of-7 for 45 yards. O'Sullivan had a strong showing, though much of the credit should go to the Bengals' stellar receiving corps.

Bengals signed QB J.T. O'Sullivan to a two-year contract.

O'Sullivan got progressively worse in eight starts for the 49ers last year, committing 17 turnovers before being benched for Shaun Hill. Still, he's talented enough to be a league-average backup. O'Sullivan knows Bengals coordinator Ernie Zampese's offense well. Zampese is a Mike Martz pupil.

NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that free agent J.T. O'Sullivan will sign with the Bengals on Thursday.

Cincinnati will be picking JTO over Rex Grossman, who was scheduled for a Thursday visit. His flight will likely now be canceled. Dan Orlovsky set the backup QB market with a three-year, $9.15M deal, but JTO will likely get less.

The Bengals hosted free agent J.T. O'Sullivan on Tuesday.

Cincinnati figures to pick between O'Sullivan and free agent Rex Grossman, visiting Thursday, to be its next backup. O'Sullivan is older and would likely be slightly cheaper, always a factor for Bengals owner Mike Brown.

Free agent J.T. O'Sullivan is not expected back with the 49ers.

Mike Martz's dismissal ended any chance of this reunion. O'Sullivan, 29, has a good arm and athleticism, but may be too turnover prone for other teams to view as a clear-cut backup. He definitely won't get a chance to start.

49ers backup QB J.T. O'Sullivan is a free agent this offseason.

The turnover prone journeyman's San Francisco fate is tied to that of offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who is a long shot to return next season. JTO would do well to just get a No. 2 quarterback job elsewhere.

J.T. O'Sullivan has been benched in favor of Shaun Hill.

It was a fun ride. JTO, undrafted in most leagues, gave owners up-and-down QB2 value until Sunday's implosion. He is second in the NFL in plays over 20 yards and in the top ten with a 7.7 YPA, but made gruesome mistakes. O'Sullivan leads the league with eleven interceptions, eleven fumbles, and 32 sacks. He's safe to drop.

Interim coach Mike Singletary didn't update the 49ers' quarterback situation at his presser Monday.

He met with Mike Martz Monday morning. "We have some time to really reflect and decide how we want to look at it going forward," Singletary said. While Shaun Hill seems more likely to be the guy, he looked mediocre in Week 8 until some garbage time stats. Martz may lobby for JTO, but Hill still seems more likely to get the call.

After benching J.T. O'Sullivan at halftime in Week 8, interim 49ers coach Mike Singletary said he'll evaluate his QB position during the upcoming bye.

JTO fell apart with three first-half turnovers and was yanked for Shaun Hill, who played much better with 173 yards and a TD on 15-of-23 passing. For now, tentatively expect Hill to get the nod. Singletary was around last year to see Hill lead the club effectively and was simply too good Sunday to overlook.
