Texans released FS Eugene Wilson, WR Andre' Davis, LB Isaiah Greenhouse, LB Darnell Bing, and DT DeMario Pressley.
Combined, the five cuts save Houston $9.7 million in projected 2011 salary, with Wilson ($3.56 million) and Davis ($4.7 million) saving the most. Wilson, 30, had 13 starts last season, but didn't contribute to a single turnover. In terms of coverage, Pro Football Focus graded him as the third worst safety in the NFL among 85 playing-time qualifiers. Only Cowboys FS Alan Ball and perennially overrated Antrel Rolle of the Giants graded out worse. Fri, Feb 18, 2011 04:31:00 PM

Texans FS Eugene Wilson is 100 percent recovered from the two broken toes that ended his season in late November.

Despite playing in just 28 games over the past four years, Wilson has no competition for his starting job. As long as he can stay healthy, the Texans have a nice tandem with Wilson and hard-hitting Bernard Pollard.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said he feels "very good" about FS Eugene Wilson and SS Bernard Pollard as his starting safeties, but wouldn't rule using the 20th overall pick at the position.

Beat writer John McClain suggests Texas FS Earl Thomas is a possibility. If that's the case, he'd quickly push Wilson for his starting job. Still, cornerback and running back appear to be more immediate and pressing needs.

Texans placed FS Eugene Wilson on injured reserve with two broken toes, ending his season.

He finishes with 29 tackles and a pair of picks. Though oft-injured, Wilson was easily Houston's best cover safety. His loss will hurt against tight ends. Wilson signed an $11.3 million extension in the offseason and will return at a cheap salary in 2010, although he may have competition to start.

Texans FS Eugene Wilson has two broken toes and has been ruled out for this week's game against Indianapolis.

Wilson will be week to week, which means backup John Busing will be thrown into the fire against the Colts this week. Busing struggled mightily at strong safety early in the season, so expect Peyton Manning to exploit him.

Texans FS Eugene Wilson left Monday night's game with a toe injury and is questionable to return.

Texans FS Eugene Wilson was a late scratch Sunday because of an undisclosed illness.

The Houston Chronicle says it's not Swine Flu, which TE Anthony Hill does have. Wilson was replaced in the starting lineup by usual SS Dominique Barber. Recent signee Bernard Pollard is at strong safety. Upgrade Zach Miller's matchup.

Texans FS Eugene Wilson (knee) has yet to practice this week and is unlikely to play in the season opener.

Wilson is still recovering from Brett Favre's crackback block to his knee. Over-the-hill former Bronco Nick Ferguson will draw the start against the Jets.

Texans re-signed FS Eugene Wilson to a three-year contract. NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports the deal is worth $11.3 million.

Wilson turns 29 before the season, but solidified the Texans' free safety position in 10 starts last year and has true "center field" skills as a converted corner. Wilson's confidence seemed to wane late in his Patriots career and he was cut by the Bucs in 2008 camp, but he's never lacked for talent.

Texans GM Rick Smith plans to make re-signing FS Eugene Wilson a priority this offseason.

Impending free agent corner Dunta Robinson will top the Texans' list, but they also want Wilson back as the starting free safety.
