Former Raiders RB Michael Bennett has received a 15-month federal sentence for taking part in a Florida fraud scheme.
Bennett was arrested in May as part of an identity theft ring that conspired to file false tax returns. The group allegedly cashed about $500,000 in fraudulent tax refund checks. Former Raiders and Chargers RB Michael Bennett has been arrested as part of a federal identity-theft probe.

Also arrested was former first-round bust DT William Joseph. The pair are alleged to have been part of a ring that conspired to steal people’s identities and file false tax returns in their names. A first-round pick in 2001, Bennett last appeared in the league in 2010, rushing twice for 11 yards for Oakland.

Raiders released RB Michael Bennett.

The 33-year-old managed just 66 yards on 20 preseason carries, "good" for a 3.3 average. Though Bennett seemed to be an Al Davis favorite, there was no reason to keep him with Taiwan Jones emerging as a speedy reserve back.

Raiders re-signed RB Michael Bennett to a one-year, $890,000 contract.

We don't see what the Raiders like about Bennett. The 33-year-old to be received just two carries in seven appearances last season, and dating back to 2006 is averaging 3.54 yards per attempt. It would probably be in Oakland's best interest to move on, but perhaps owner Al Davis envisions Bennett as insurance in the event he's unable to re-sign free agent Michael Bush.

Raiders RB Michael Bennett suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4 and is out indefinitely.

The severity is unknown, but Bennett is one of the slowest healers in football. The 5-foot-9 32-year-old's injury, coupled with Darren McFadden's of the same variety, will likely force the Raiders to sign a running back this week. Longtime Tom Cable coaching staff favorite Justin Fargas is available.

Raiders signed RB Michael Bennett to an undisclosed contract.

The Raiders wanted Bennett so badly that they cut JaMarcus Russell to open a roster spot. On a serious note, the 32-year-old veteran has averaged just 5.5 games and 15 attempts as a third running back the past two seasons. He may slot into Justin Fargas' roster spot, but he won't be handling a similar workload.

He is participating in post-draft minicamp. Bennett fits the Raiders' profile as a former first-round pick with speed. Unfortunately, he lacks tackle breaking ability, isn't much of a pass receiver, and turns 32 this August.

Bennett, turning 32 before the start of the season, was due $1.25M in 2010. No better than a third or fourth running back on most rosters, Bennett will struggle to draw interest in free agency. The Chargers will still target an early-down back in free agency or the draft.

Michael Bennett rushed 11 times for 28 yards and added four receptions for 62 yards against the Redskins in Week 17.

It was Bennett, not Mike Tolbert, who benefited from the early exits of LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles. Bennett is signed through next season, which he'll begin at age 32.

The Chargers are as healthy as they've been all season, though Hardwick is likely out until December after experiencing a setback with his ankle last week.

Chargers have declared RB Michael Bennett, C Nick Hardwick, S C.J. Spillman, G Tyronne Green, WR Buster Davis, DL Vaughn Martin, and LB Kevin Burnett inactive for their Week 7 matchup in Kansas City.

Hardwick is out until December after undergoing ankle surgery, and Burnett suffered a leg injury in the fourth quarter of last Monday night's loss. They are the only starters out.

Michael Bennett rushed just four times for 19 yards and had three yards on two catches in the Chargers' Week 2 loss.

Darren Sproles was the every-down/feature back with LaDainian Tomlinson (foot) inactive, seeing 17 touches to Bennett's mostly unproductive six. Coach Norv Turner said after the game that, "We probably need to use Bennett more," but it's hard to get him in the game when the Bolts are going pass heavy and Sproles is so much more dangerous as a pass catcher.

Michael Bennett is in line for some work Sunday with LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) questionable for the game.

"We don't have to play him like we did a year ago when his toe was bothering him," coach Norv Turner said of Tomlinson. "That's why Michael is here." Sounds like Tomlinson won't be rushed back. LT2 is also nursing a bruised ego after Darren Sproles was the hero Monday night.

Chargers have declared RB Michael Bennett, WR Craig Davis, FS C.J. Spillman, DL Jacques Cesaire, LB Jyles Tucker, SS Kevin Ellison, and DL Tyronne Greene inactive for Monday night's game against the Raiders.

Cesaire's calf injury wouldn't allow him to play tonight as he had hoped. Bennett is the team's third running back.

Bennett, 31, was squarely on the bubble heading into cut day but survived. He'll play behind LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles and will only get carries if one of them goes down.
