Texans placed WR Devard Darling (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Darling will need surgery on his knee after suffering an injury against the 49ers over the weekend. The Texans will let him go with an injury settlement. This may be the last we hear of the 2004 third-rounder. Tue, Aug 30, 2011 04:33:00 PM

Texans worked out free agent WR Devard Darling.

The 2004 third-rounder was out of the league last year after suffering a torn ACL in 2009. The Texans are likely just looking at the 29-year-old as an extra camp body with nagging injuries piling up.

Free agent WR Devard Darling says the Seahawks, Raiders, Rams and Bears are showing interest in him right now.

Darling was drafted by the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL, but he didn't even know his name was in the draft. He subsequently released a statement saying his torn ACL is completely rehabbed and he won't be playing in the UFL. He'd be a long shot to make an NFL roster even if he gets a tryout. The 2004 third-round pick of the Ravens has 37 career catches.

Chiefs released WR Devard Darling.

Per Scout.com's Adam Caplan, Darling failed his team physical. Darling tore his ACL in the 2009 preseason and was due $2M in 2010. He never had a chance to be on the roster. Darling is a long shot to make a team, even if his surgically repaired knee is healthy.

Chiefs placed WR Devard Darling (torn ACL) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Darling, 27, ran with the starting offense for most of camp, but his loss won't hurt the Chiefs. He has just 37 career catches in five seasons as a pro. Darling will likely be cut next spring. He's due $2M in 2009 salary.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the injury suffered by Chiefs WR Devard Darling in Saturday night's preseason game was "likely" a torn ACL.

If so, Darling is out for the year and Kansas City's paper-thin receiver corps is even thinner, although Darling's hardly an impact player. All in all, it could be a plus for the Chiefs with Mark Bradley or Amani Toomer joining the lineup across from Dwayne Bowe. Darling had been running with the ones.

Devard Darling was helped off the field during Saturday night's preseason game with a knee injury.

Darling has been listed as a starter since the beginning of camp. A serious injury would open the door for Amani Toomer and/or Mark Bradley to move up.

Devard Darling is running as the Chiefs' starting flanker in training camp.

Going to show how poor Kansas City's other options are. Mark Bradley is the most naturally gifted alternative, but hasn't stood out in camp. The Chiefs could wind up using a rotation here, with Amani Toomer also involved.

Devard Darling caught three passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in Week 16.

Darling hauled in a 33-yard Tyler Thigpen floater for the Chiefs first score, and he followed that up with an impressive 32-yard grab tip-toeing the sidelines. This qualifies as Darling's best game of the season, but he won't be a fantasy option next week.

Devard Darling was held catch-less in the Chiefs' Week 4 win.

Darling continues to start, but doesn't even get consistent blurbs because of how little he does. Maybe it's time for Will Franklin to get a chance. Darling is on pace to catch 12 passes for 356 yards and no TDs this year.

Devard Darling caught only one pass for 10 yards in Week 2.

Darling is a starter, but has only two receptions through two games. There should be very low expectations for him all season.

Devard Darling caught one pass for 68 yards in Week 1.

If Darling could run faster, he would've scored, but he got run down by CB Deltha O'Neal and SS Rodney Harrison. Both Pats DBs are over 30.

Devard Darling has won the Chiefs' No. 2 receiver job based almost strictly on experience, according to the Kansas City Star.

It's quite odd for a team so dead set on rebuilding to hand over starting jobs based on tenure in the league. Explosive rookie Will Franklin should have every opportunity to pass Darling on the depth chart early this season.

Brodie Croyle says that Devard Darling is the fastest receiver on the Chiefs.

Granted, Croyle probably hasn't seen rookies Will Franklin or Kevin Robinson run yet. But Darling is fast and has good size; it's consistency and possibly desire he's lacked. With Darling's track record, it's hard to imagine there being a poorer on-paper No. 2 receiver in the league.

Devard Darling would reportedly be the Chiefs' starting wideout opposite Dwayne Bowe if the season began today.

What a nightmare. If the Chiefs don't upgrade here, Bowe should be double teamed just about every down in his second year. Darling, who never met expectations in Baltimore, appears to be ahead of Jeff Webb at the moment.
