Redskins placed RB Rob Kelley on injured reserve with a toe injury.
Kelley was injured in Sunday's loss to the Colts. It sounds like he will be a candidate for return. Kelley must sit at least eight games. Samaje Perine will slot in as the Redskins' No. 3 back. Sep 18 - 5:29 PM

Date:

Rob Kelley rushed eight times for 19 yards in the Redskins' third preseason game.

Kelley played just three snaps with the starters as Adrian Peterson dominated the work. With Peterson seemingly locked in atop the depth chart, Kelley is suddenly not even an appealing late-round option.
Aug 24 - 10:29 PM

Rob Kelley rushed seven times for 17 yards and hauled in 1-of-2 targets for 13 yards in the Redskins' second preseason game.

The rushing line was not efficient, but the passing usage was encouraging. The owner of 16 catches in 22 career games, Kelley almost came down with what would have been a great catch on a wheel route, and gained 13 yards on a dump off a few moments later. Samaje Perine picked up an ankle injury Thursday night, and Kelley was already working as the clear lead back before that. Even if his receiving usage does not proves real -- it will be tough with Chris Thompson expected back before Week 1 -- he is looking like a great pick at his ADP.

Rob Kelley says he's down to 221 pounds this season.

Kelley has typically been listed between 228-233 as a pro after weighing in at 249 as a college senior. Understanding that he's on the roster bubble, Kelley is spending the summer trying to improve his special teams and pass-catching value. Kelley might save his roster spot, but he's unlikely to come into the fantasy value he had in 2017.

NBC Washington considers Rob Kelley on the roster bubble.

Kelley got some first-team reps this offseason but isn't a roster lock behind Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson, and Samaje Perine. He may not be higher than the No. 4 running back if he makes the team. Washington can save $630K from Kelley's release.
Jun 22 - 6:10 PM

Rob Kelley was the first running back through position drills at Wednesday's OTAs.

Kelley was followed by sophomore Samaje Perine and then rookie Derrius Guice. We wouldn't read much, if anything, into this, as the Redskins are likely going by veteran status on the first day of workouts. Kelley spent much of the second half of last season on I.R. with a high-ankle sprain and wasn't very good before the injury. Perine wasn't much better in relief before he also got hurt. This is going to be Guice's backfield on early downs much sooner than later.
May 23 - 12:16 PM

Redskins placed RB Rob Kelley (high-ankle sprain, sprained MCL) on injured reserve, ending his season.

RB Byron Marshall was signed in a corresponding roster move. Kelley was hurt pretty much from the jump this season, injuring his ribs before spraining his ankle. He aggravated the ankle in Week 10 while picking up a knee sprain. All the injuries are not good news for a player who wasn't exactly the most dynamic in the first place. Kelley has helped out on early downs the past two seasons after going undrafted in 2016, but there's no guarantee he'll crack the 53-man roster next summer. The Redskins will move forward with Chris Thompson as their lead back and Samaje Perine trying to do some heavy lifting between the tackles. Perine has been ineffective so far this season.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed Rob Kelley (ankle, knee) will miss "multiple games."

Gruden also mentioned injured reserve as a possibility for injured reserve, which would end his season. The Redskins will move forward with Chris Thompson as their primary back and rookie Samaje Perine as the one-dimensional, situational, early-down grinder. Kelley can be dropped in 12- and 14-team leagues.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: While the Saints pass defense has been strong against receivers and tight ends this season, they’re still struggling to contain receiving running backs, setting up a nice matchup for Thompson. In addition to the Saints D ranking 28th in rush DVOA, they’ve given up the second-most receptions and sixth-most receiving yards to the position. On top of that, Thompson will have a friendly $5.4k price tag on DraftKings this week, possibly the cheapest he'll be the rest of the season. Given the spot and his ability to generate huge plays, he’s shaping up to be a solid DFS play in Week 11.

Rob Kelley suffered a high-ankle sprain and an MCL sprain Week 10 against the Vikings.

A high-ankle sprain alone can keep a running back out for over a month, and it is possible Kelley's recovery is complicated by the knee injury. With Kelley out for at least the foreseeable future, Samaje Perine needs to be added in all formats.

Rob Kelley suffered an ankle/knee injury and is questionable to return to Sunday's Week 10 game versus the Vikings.

Kelley had his lower leg rolled over on his fourth carry of the game and went back to the locker room with a noticeable limp. His return is questionable.

Redskins RB Rob Kelley rushed 14 times for 18 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 9 win over the Seahawks.

Kelley was stuffed behind the line on multiple occasions and struggled to find much room to run. Both of his touchdowns were from a yard away including what ended up being the game-winning score with 59 seconds left. He continues to do very little with his opportunity, partially due to the Redskins injured offensive line. Kelley remains a touchdown-reliant fantasy option.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Rob Kelley (ankle) is expected to play Week 9 against the Seahawks, but his workload will be limited.

Kelley only saw eight carries last week, so it is not clear how much more limited his workload can become. Chris Thompson is the only quality fantasy option in Washington's backfield.

Rob Kelley (ankle) is questionable for Week 9 against Seattle.

Kelley is expected to play through his ankle issue after a limited week of practice. He could see more early-down work with Jordan Reed and Jamison Crowder injured, but has been one of the least effective backs in the league. Kelley isn't more than a low-end RB3.

Rob Kelley (ankle) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

The Redskins are just managing his practice reps. Kelley finally found the end zone in Week 8, but was held to 19 yards on eight carries in a loss to Dallas. Pass-catcher Chris Thompson remains the best fantasy bet in Washington's backfield.
Wed, Nov 1, 2017 07:54:00 PM

Rob Kelley rushed eight times for 19 yards and a touchdown in the Redskins' Week 8 loss to the Cowboys.

Kelley was going nowhere behind the Redskins' injury-ruined offensive line, though he did manage to find the end zone for the first time in 2017. Chris Thompson is the Redskins' No. 1 back, but Kelley maintains the theoretical lead on early downs. It's unlikely to translate to RB3 value against the Seahawks in Week 9.
