Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he expects Rob Kelley (ankle) to start against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
Kelley is back after missing Week 6 with an ankle injury. Though it appears Kelley will draw the start, Gruden said he expects all of the Redskins' running backs to be involved throughout the game including rookie Samaje Perine and pass-catcher Chris Thompson. Fat Rob will be a no-frills RB3 for Monday night's divisional showdown. Oct 20 - 3:24 PM

Date:

Rob Kelley (ankle) returned to Redskins practice on Thursday, getting in a limited session.

With the bye week to heal up, Kelley is on track to return after missing Week 5. The Redskins play on Monday Night Football, so we might not get official word on Kelley's status until this weekend. He will be in the RB3 mix if he suits up against the Eagles.
Oct 19 - 3:05 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is expected to resume practicing this week.

Samaje Perine has shown very little in Kelley's absence, so he should be returning to the lead on early downs if he can get cleared for Week 7. Kelley's status will be updated no later than Wednesday.
Oct 16 - 3:21 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is inactive for Week 6 against the 49ers.

Kelley was never expected to play. He didn't practice this week and isn't a lock to return in Week 7. Chris Thompson will start, but Samaje Perine is still the favorite to lead the Redskins in carries.
Oct 15 - 11:33 AM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is doubtful for Week 6 against the 49ers.

Kelley never practiced this week and won't be active Sunday versus San Francisco. Samaje Perine will serve as the lead back and may have some appeal as a cheap, volume-based DFS option this week. Pass-catcher Chris Thompson will also play a role on Sunday. Consider Kelley week-to-week.
Oct 13 - 2:01 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Even after resting his ankle during the bye week, it doesn't look like Kelley will be ready for Week 6. We'd expect him to be ruled out on Friday. Fourth-round rookie Samaje Perine should be in for a big workload Sunday in a good matchup against the 49ers. Chris Thompson will have a role on passing downs.
Oct 12 - 1:14 PM

Coach Jay Gruden said Rob Kelley (ankle) is a "long shot" to play Week 6 against the 49ers.

Kelley didn't practice Wednesday as he's been limited to side work following the Week 4 injury. It'll be Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson on Sunday. Thompson is a decent RB3 play with the Niners struggling to cover backs.
Oct 11 - 3:09 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is not practicing Wednesday.

Kelley stretched with his teammates but was again limited to side work. Even with the bye week to rest, Kelley doesn't appear quite ready. It would be Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson if Kelley can't go against the 49ers.
Oct 11 - 1:16 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is not practicing Monday.

He is working with trainers on a side field. Kelley was knocked out of the Week 4 game with an ankle injury, but he said the issue was minor and has had the bye week to heal up. It would be good to see him practice on Wednesday, but Kelley should be expected to suit up at this point.
Oct 9 - 12:12 PM

Speaking Tuesday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden called Rob Kelley (ankle) day to day.

It's in alignment with Kelley's own words. Kelley is having trouble staying healthy this season, but he now has the Redskins' Week 5 bye to heal up. Considering Kelley's injury question marks, Samaje Perine will probably stay involved, rendering Kelley a low-upside RB3.
Oct 3 - 2:44 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) expects to play after Washington returns from bye Week 6.

Kelley entered Monday night with injured ribs, but he left with an ankle injury. It looks like it is a minor issue, but players can be overly optimistic about their own injuries. Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine will carry the load if Kelley is forced to miss a game.
Oct 3 - 9:38 AM

Redskins RB Rob Kelley (ankle) is questionable to return in Week 4 against the Chiefs.

Kelley injured his ankle in the 1st quarter against the Chiefs. Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson will carry the load in his absence.
Oct 2 - 9:22 PM

Redskins RB Rob Kelley (ribs) is active for Week 4 against the Chiefs.

Kelley was able to practice on Saturday meaning he will probably assume his previous role. With Kelley back, Samaje Perine likely won't play much and Chris Thompson will remain the pass-catching back. Thompson is the only one of the trio worth starting in most fantasy leagues.
Oct 2 - 7:18 PM

Redskins RB Rob Kelley (ribs) is questionable for Week 4 against the Chiefs.

Kelley was able to practice on Saturday, a good sign for his potential availability. With their game not until Monday, though, Kelley is a risk. Chris Thompson is the best fantasy option in Washington's backfield.

Sep 30 - 1:47 PM

Rob Kelley (ribs) practiced on Thursday.

He was officially limited. Kelley also practiced all three days last week before sitting out, but he's tentatively on track to return for Monday's game against the Chiefs. Samaje Perine struggled mightily in Kelley's absence, so he'll be sliding back into lead two-down duties if active.
