Redskins placed RB Rob Kelley (high-ankle sprain, sprained MCL) on injured reserve, ending his season.
RB Byron Marshall was signed in a corresponding roster move. Kelley was hurt pretty much from the jump this season, injuring his ribs before spraining his ankle. He aggravated the ankle in Week 10 while picking up a knee sprain. All the injuries are not good news for a player who wasn't exactly the most dynamic in the first place. Kelley has helped out on early downs the past two seasons after going undrafted in 2016, but there's no guarantee he'll crack the 53-man roster next summer. The Redskins will move forward with Chris Thompson as their lead back and Samaje Perine trying to do some heavy lifting between the tackles. Perine has been ineffective so far this season. Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed Rob Kelley (ankle, knee) will miss "multiple games."

Gruden also mentioned injured reserve as a possibility for injured reserve, which would end his season. The Redskins will move forward with Chris Thompson as their primary back and rookie Samaje Perine as the one-dimensional, situational, early-down grinder. Kelley can be dropped in 12- and 14-team leagues. Daily Slant: While the Saints pass defense has been strong against receivers and tight ends this season, they’re still struggling to contain receiving running backs, setting up a nice matchup for Thompson. In addition to the Saints D ranking 28th in rush DVOA, they’ve given up the second-most receptions and sixth-most receiving yards to the position. On top of that, Thompson will have a friendly $5.4k price tag on DraftKings this week, possibly the cheapest he'll be the rest of the season. Given the spot and his ability to generate huge plays, he’s shaping up to be a solid DFS play in Week 11.
Nov 13 - 3:11 PM

Rob Kelley suffered a high-ankle sprain and an MCL sprain Week 10 against the Vikings.

A high-ankle sprain alone can keep a running back out for over a month, and it is possible Kelley's recovery is complicated by the knee injury. With Kelley out for at least the foreseeable future, Samaje Perine needs to be added in all formats.
Nov 13 - 12:46 PM

Rob Kelley suffered an ankle/knee injury and is questionable to return to Sunday's Week 10 game versus the Vikings.

Kelley had his lower leg rolled over on his fourth carry of the game and went back to the locker room with a noticeable limp. His return is questionable.
Nov 12 - 1:55 PM

Redskins RB Rob Kelley rushed 14 times for 18 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 9 win over the Seahawks.

Kelley was stuffed behind the line on multiple occasions and struggled to find much room to run. Both of his touchdowns were from a yard away including what ended up being the game-winning score with 59 seconds left. He continues to do very little with his opportunity, partially due to the Redskins injured offensive line. Kelley remains a touchdown-reliant fantasy option.
Nov 5 - 7:47 PM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Rob Kelley (ankle) is expected to play Week 9 against the Seahawks, but his workload will be limited.

Kelley only saw eight carries last week, so it is not clear how much more limited his workload can become. Chris Thompson is the only quality fantasy option in Washington's backfield.
Nov 5 - 8:19 AM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is questionable for Week 9 against Seattle.

Kelley is expected to play through his ankle issue after a limited week of practice. He could see more early-down work with Jordan Reed and Jamison Crowder injured, but has been one of the least effective backs in the league. Kelley isn't more than a low-end RB3.
Nov 3 - 2:19 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

The Redskins are just managing his practice reps. Kelley finally found the end zone in Week 8, but was held to 19 yards on eight carries in a loss to Dallas. Pass-catcher Chris Thompson remains the best fantasy bet in Washington's backfield.
Nov 1 - 7:54 PM

Rob Kelley rushed eight times for 19 yards and a touchdown in the Redskins' Week 8 loss to the Cowboys.

Kelley was going nowhere behind the Redskins' injury-ruined offensive line, though he did manage to find the end zone for the first time in 2017. Chris Thompson is the Redskins' No. 1 back, but Kelley maintains the theoretical lead on early downs. It's unlikely to translate to RB3 value against the Seahawks in Week 9.
Oct 29 - 8:07 PM

Rob Kelley rushed seven times for 16 yards in the Redskins' Week 7 loss to the Eagles.

Kelley added two catches for 14 yards on his two targets in the pass game. He and Chris Thompson each saw seven carries to lead the team, but Thompson again caught a short touchdown and continues to out-produce Kelley. The Redskins can't keep running Kelley for minimal gains on early downs; he's setting the offense up in tough situations by not getting yards on first downs. Kelley has done nothing all year and is by no means a must-hold in 12-team leagues.
Oct 24 - 12:36 AM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is active for Week 7 against the Eagles.

LT Trent Williams and CB Bashaud Breeland are also both active for Monday night after all three were listed as questionable. Kelley is expected to get the start, but he's a low-floor, low-upside RB3. Inactive for the Redskins are CB Josh Norman, OT Ty Nsekhe, S Deshazor Everett, LB Josh Harvey-Clemons, OG Tyler Catalina, TE Jeremy Sprinkle, and DL A.J. Francis.
Oct 23 - 7:06 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday night's game with the Eagles.

Kelley didn't have any setbacks in practice this week and is expected to play. Sidelined since Week 4, Kelley is unlikely to see a full workload in his return. The Redskins are expected to use a three-back committee with Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson
Oct 21 - 3:06 PM

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he expects Rob Kelley (ankle) to start against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Kelley is back after missing Week 6 with an ankle injury. Though it appears Kelley will draw the start, Gruden said he expects all of the Redskins' running backs to be involved throughout the game including rookie Samaje Perine and pass-catcher Chris Thompson. Fat Rob will be a no-frills RB3 for Monday night's divisional showdown.
Oct 20 - 3:24 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) returned to Redskins practice on Thursday, getting in a limited session.

With the bye week to heal up, Kelley is on track to return after missing Week 5. The Redskins play on Monday Night Football, so we might not get official word on Kelley's status until this weekend. He will be in the RB3 mix if he suits up against the Eagles.
Oct 19 - 3:05 PM

Rob Kelley (ankle) is expected to resume practicing this week.

Samaje Perine has shown very little in Kelley's absence, so he should be returning to the lead on early downs if he can get cleared for Week 7. Kelley's status will be updated no later than Wednesday.
