ESPN 1500 Twin Cities confirms DT Kevin Williams will likely move on from the Vikings after this season.
Williams is entering his age-33 season and recently accepted a contract restructure that makes him a free agent in 2014. He'll mentor rookie Sharrif Floyd this year at three-technique tackle, and then give way. "I think it's going to be a great combination for us," coach Leslie Frazier said. Apr 26 - 11:25 PM

The Vikings and Kevin Williams have agreed to a contract restructure that will make him a free agent after this season.

Williams was due a non-guaranteed $7.5 million in both 2013 and 2014. Now he'll get a guaranteed $4.9 million this season and then hit the open market. The move clears out roughly $2.5 million in salary cap space, giving the Vikes about $6.913 million to work with. Williams will turn 33 years old in August, but is coming off another difference-making year as a run stuffer.

The Vikings have not approached DT Kevin Williams about a pay cut.

Williams is due $7.5 million entering his age-33 season, and it's still possible Minnesota asks for a restructure or slash of some kind. The ten-year veteran has missed just four games in his career and is still playing at a high level. Pro Football Focus graded Williams as a top-ten defensive tackle in 2012.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams carries a $7.5 million cap hit in 2013.

It's a big number for a player that entered his decline phase a few years ago. Williams, a five-time All-Pro selection between 2004 and 2009, will be 33 in August. The Vikings may ask him to restructure his deal, especially if they want to go after a big-ticket wideout in free agency.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams would like to play 2-3 more years.

There have been conflicting reports on the option in Williams' contract for 2013-14, but it looks like he will not reach free agency. The Vikes may ask him to restructure, however. The 32-year-old finished as Pro Football Focus' 10th-rated defensive tackle in 2012.

According to ESPN 1500 Twin Cities, there is not a 2013-14 option on Vikings DT Kevin Williams' contract.

Beat writer Tom Pelissero has seen the contract himself and is assured by those in know that there is no two-year, $16.76 million option. Turning 32 in August, the six-time Pro Bowler is entering a contract season.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams is seeking a contract extension.

"(The Vikings) might not feel the same way," Williams admitted. "My main thing is to have a good year and whatever happens after that happens after that." Williams is entering the final season of a five-year, $33.2 million contract, but the pact includes a two-year, $16.76 option the Vikings can exercise next offseason. It's doubtful Williams' contract is revisited before then.

DT Kevin Williams has filed a grievance against the Vikings over an undisclosed issue.

An NFL source tells ESPN 1500 Twin Cities it's a "minor" issue that's expected to be resolved this summer. It's likely the sides are in dispute over a bonus or incentive in Williams' contract. Now the Vikings' longest tenured player, Williams notched 38 tackles and five sacks in 14 games last season, grading out as Pro Football Focus' eighth best defensive tackle in the process.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams will come off suspension in Week 3 and play against the Lions.

Williams will play Weeks 3-4 without a weekly salary -- the NFL suspended him two weeks and fined him four game checks -- but his StarCaps ban is officially over. Williams dealt with plantar fasciitis in training camp. The time off has him "feeling pretty good," Williams says, and "helped my foot." An elite run defender, Williams also has 15.5 sacks over the past three years.

NFL suspended Vikings DT Kevin Williams two games to open the season for violating its policy against banned substances.

Saints DE Will Smith figures to get the same treatment. The suspensions are related to the StarCaps situation that has lingered for the last two years. Williams' absence will likely force Letroy Guion into the starting lineup next to nose tackle Remi Ayodele. Ryan Mathews, Mike Tolbert, and LeGarrette Blount will get early-season fantasy matchup bumps in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively. Williams is a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All Pro.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams admits his plantar fasciitis will likely be a season-long problem.

"It's a situation where I don't think it's going to go away until maybe the offseason," Williams said. "We're just going to deal with it and try and grin and bear it." Williams' weekly availability will likely come down to pain management all year. The Vikings shouldn't count on him practicing a whole lot.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams will miss the rest of the preseason due to plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis isn't nearly as concerning for an interior lineman as it is for a pass-catcher like Antonio Gates. Williams is tentatively expected to be ready for the opener as long as his pending StarCaps suspension doesn't kick in.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the suspensions for all players involved in the 2008 StarCaps case will be reduced from four games to two.

The two primary players affected are Vikings DT Kevin Williams and Saints DE Will Smith. Even better news for both players: The suspensions are unlikely to kick in before Week 1 because the dispute remains an "unresolved bargaining chip in negotiations between the NFL and Players Association on a new drug-testing policy." Williams' status for the opener could be in doubt due to a plantar fasciitis injury, however.

Vikings DT Kevin Williams admitted he is expecting to be suspended for the first four games of the season as a result of the StarCaps case.

Williams sounds like he's ready to simply take his punishment and move on. He dropped his appeal against the NFL back in March. "It'd be a huge surprise if we got it 'buddied' out of the CBA, but that's what I'm hoping," Williams said. Free agent DT Pat Williams and Saints DE Will Smith are also awaiting their fate.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello revealed Thursday that the Minnesota Supreme Court has denied Kevin Williams' appeal in the StarCaps case.

"The result is the case is over and we, the NFL, prevailed in the case," said Aiello. "So there is a court in Minnesota that rules in our favor from time to time." Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, and Will Smith are now expected to serve four-game suspensions, though that's not set in stone.
