NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Colts first-round FS Malik Hooker is done for the season with a torn ACL and MCL suffered Week 7 against the Jaguars.
Brutal. The 15th overall pick in April's draft, Hooker had to be carted off the field Sunday, suggesting something serious like this was coming down the chute. An absolute ballhawk on the back end, Hooker picked off three passed his first six games before going down early in Week 7. Darius Butler and T.J. Green are going to have to fill in the rest of the way. Hooker should be ready by next year's training camp. The Colts are expected to get SS Clayton Geathers (neck, PUP) back soon. Date:

Colts FS Malik Hooker left Week 7 against Jacksonville with a knee injury.

The Colts brought the cart out for Hooker, but he walked off the field. This still looks like a bad injury. The Colts are also without CB Rashaan Melvin (concussion).

Colts FS Malik Hooker (shoulder) is practicing in full this week.

Hooker has dealt with shoulder and hamstring issues since being drafted No. 15 overall in April, but he's been full go for a couple weeks now and will start the opener against the Rams. He projects as a centerfield ballhawk.
Sep 6 - 1:31 PM

Colts first-round FS Malik Hooker has missed the last week of practice with a shoulder injury.

Hooker has spent more time injured than healthy since being drafted by the Colts, recovering from shoulder and sports hernia surgeries during the offseason program and opening camp on the PUP with a hamstring issue. It is unclear if this shoulder injury has anything to do with the offseason surgery. The Colts need Hooker to contribute right away, but that will be tough after all this missed time.
Aug 17 - 8:56 AM

Colts activated first-round FS Malik Hooker from the active/PUP list.

Hooker was placed on the PUP list after tweaking his hamstring during his conditioning test. After two offseason surgeries and getting hurt early in camp, this is great news for Hooker. The Colts need him to contribute right away.
Jul 29 - 1:25 PM

Colts first-round S Malik Hooker tweaked his hamstring during the conditioning test and will start training camp on the PUP list.

After undergoing both shoulder and sports hernia surgery, Hooker missed the entire offseason program. Projected as the starter for Indy's previously porous secondary, Hooker needs some reps before the season.
Jul 25 - 9:53 AM

Colts first-round S Malik Hooker (shoulder, groin) will be ready for camp.

Hooker underwent shoulder and sports hernia surgeries after the season and was forced to miss the entire offseason program. He is healthy now, however, and should open the season as the starter at free safety. A ball-hawking playmaker, Hooker should be a massive upgrade for Indy's secondary.
Jul 24 - 1:18 PM

Colts signed first-round S Malik Hooker to a four-year contract.

As with all first-round picks, his deal comes with a team option for a fifth year. Hooker is currently recovering from offseason shoulder and sports hernia surgeries, but he is expected to be ready for training camp. He should step into a starting role as soon as he is healthy.

Colts first-round S Malik Hooker (shoulder, groin) expects to be ready for training camp.

Hooker underwent shoulder and sports hernia surgeries after the season. He will likely miss the entire offseason program, but there does not seem to be much worry about his availability for camp. A ball hawk who has earned Ed Reed comparisons, Hooker has the look of an impact rookie.

May 12 - 1:09 PM

Colts selected Ohio State S Malik Hooker with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Hooker (6’1/206) turned pro as a redshirt sophomore after breaking out for 5.5 tackles for loss and seven interceptions in 2016, including three pick sixes. He averaged an absurd 25.9 yards per runback on his turnovers forced, playing free safety like a ball-hawking wideout. Hooker underwent shoulder and sports hernia surgeries in January, but should be 100% well before camp. Blessed with huge hands (10 3’4") and innate playmaking ability, Hooker is a pure center fielder who has some issues in run support but has drawn Ed Reed comparisons for his back-end vision and field-flipping takeaway skills.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes the Browns would feel "hard-pressed" to pass on Ohio State S Malik Hooker if he's available at No. 12.

Hooker is generally considered a top-10 pick, though he is recovering from sports-hernia and shoulder operations. Reporter Mary Kay Cabot believes the Browns would only consider a trade up for Hooker if they believed they could get one of their quarterback targets later, perhaps at No. 33.
Apr 4 - 7:02 PM

Ohio State S Malik Hooker is recovering from sports-hernia surgery and an operation to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.

The labrum is the bigger concern and the issue that will sideline him into the summer, though Hooker has "been told" he'll be ready for training camp. Hooker is viewed as a top-10 prospect in the 2017 draft, but he's not likely to participate in the pre-draft process. It could cause Hooker to fall into the lap of a team later in the first round. Hooker is a legit ballhawk.

Bears GM Ryan Pace said he wants to "add more playmakers to our secondary" this offseason.

The general manager could focus on the issue in free agency, but if he decides to turn to the draft, Ohio State S Malik Hooker would fit the bill. While the No. 3 overall pick might be a little steep for the safety, Hooker is a proven playmaker who recorded seven interceptions including three pick-sixes in 2016. A clear top-10 talent, he could be a good fit with the Bears.
