Colts OC Rob Chudzinski said Marlon Mack will get more touches with Robert Turbin (elbow) out for the season.
Before Mack truthers get too excited, the coaching staff said all last week they planned to get the rookie more work before he saw two carries against the Titans. Mack almost has to see more touches with Turbin out, however, and Chudzinski said he would have gotten more carries Monday night had a few RPOs played out differently. Mack has a good matchup this week against a Jaguars defense which has given up some long runs, but he will be just a hopeful FLEX until we see him actually get the work. Oct 19 - 12:44 PM

Marlon Mack rushed two times for 18 yards in the Colts' Week 6 loss to the Titans.

He failed to catch either of his two targets. Mack exploded for a 22-yard run on his first attempt, but lost four on the next carry in the first quarter and never touched the ball again. He's now had 12 carries go for zero or negative yards. Mack is the definition of boom or bust. The Colts said they wanted to get Mack more involved after his strong Week 5, but it didn't happen at all. Frank Gore was running well and turned 12 touches into 67 yards, while Robert Turbin chipped in 40 yards on seven touches before leaving with an elbow injury in the final quarter. Mack is worth a bench stash, but the Colts love their old guys like Gore, who never gets hurt.

ESPN’s Mike Wells expects Marlon Mack to have an "increased workload" on Monday night against the Titans.

This falls with Chuck Pagano’s plan to get Mack more carries. Mack led Indy to an overtime win last week, adding a big-play threat to an offense that’s lacked splash plays without Andrew Luck. The Colts have misplaced loyalty to Frank Gore, a 34-year-old on an expired deal with three straight sub-4.0 YPC seasons. Mack was a workhorse for star HC Willie Taggart at USF — starting 36-of-36 games — and is miscast in a change-up role. The Colts need to make the move to Mack if they want to get him double-digit starts — a streak he’s had since college. Mack is the future in Indy and deserves to start.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Marlon Mack is not ready to be an every-down or third-down back.

Mack erupted for 91 yards and a touchdown on nine carries against the 49ers, but Pagano said he is still a work in progress after missing some time due to injury. Mack has also been fairly boom-or-bust early in his career, failing to gain more than three yards on 18-of-25 attempts so far this season. Mack will likely see more touches moving forward, but he will need a more defined role to be usable in fantasy lineups.
Oct 12 - 1:01 PM

Colts coach Chuck Pagano believes Marlon Mack has earned a bigger role.

Pagano doesn't coach the offense -- OC Rob Chudzinski does -- but Pagano certainly has say in playing time. Mack broke loose for 92 yards and a touchdown on ten touches in Sunday's win over San Francisco. "I think it would be wise to try to find ways to get (Marlon Mack) the football and get him more involved," Pagano said Monday. The Colts' backfield continues to trend toward an RBBC.
Oct 9 - 4:41 PM

Marlon Mack rushed nine times for 91 yards and one touchdown in the Colts' Week 5 win over the 49ers.

Mack's 35-yard run in overtime set up the game-winning field goal, but he had numerous impressive runs in this one. A third-and-long one where he willed his way to the first down marker was one of the better runs of the season. It set up Jacoby Brissett's short touchdown scamper. It was Mack's first game back from a multi-week shoulder injury. Frank Gore still led this backfield with 14 carries, but it's very evident Mack just has far more juice and should be getting even more looks. He needs to be added in most formats. Mack won't be startable next week at the Titans.
Oct 8 - 4:56 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) is practicing in full for Week 5 against the 49ers.

Mack missed the last two games, but got in some practice time ahead of Week 4 . His return puts pressure on Frank Gore, who's averaging 3.1 YPC. Gore has a narrative-based matchup with the 49ers this week, but Mack could have a bigger than expected role.
Oct 4 - 4:43 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) is out for Week 4 against the Seahawks.

Mack returned to a limited practice on Thursday but he's not game-ready yet. This will be his second straight absence. Frank Gore will continue to lead the backfield with Robert Turbin and Matt Jones working as change-of-pace options.
Sep 29 - 1:24 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) returned to a limited practice on Thursday.

He was seen wearing a red non-contact jersey. It's progress nonetheless and gives Mack at least a fighting chance to suit up for Sunday night's game against the Seahawks. The fourth-round rookie has struggled this year, managing just 21 yards on 16 carries.
Sep 28 - 1:42 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) remained sidelined at Wednesday's practice.

Mack sat out last week with his shoulder issue. The missed practice isn't a great sign for his chances of returning this week. With Frank Gore averaging 3.0 YPC, the Colts need Mack to get healthy.
Sep 27 - 4:17 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) is out for Week 3 against the Browns.

It was clear Mack wasn't going to play this week after missing practice on both Thursday and Friday. Former Redskin Matt Jones will be called up from the practice squad to serve as the No. 3 running back behind Frank Gore and Robert Turbin.
Sep 22 - 1:40 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) remained sidelined at Friday's practice.

He's looking like a long shot to play Sunday against the Browns, leaving Frank Gore and Robert Turbin in the Colts' backfield. Gore is a low-end RB3.
Sep 22 - 11:50 AM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) didn't practice on Thursday.

It's a downgrade from Wednesday when he put in a limited session. Mack scored a touchdown in Week 1 but ranks dead-last among qualified running backs in yards per carry (1.3). Robert Turbin should see more work if Mack can't get the green light for Week 3 versus Cleveland.
Sep 21 - 4:40 PM

Marlon Mack (shoulder) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

Mack must have picked up the shoulder injury in last week's loss. His status is day to day. Mack has a matchup with the Browns in Week 3.
Sep 20 - 4:20 PM

Marlon Mack was stuffed for -3 yards on six carries and caught his lone target for 11 yards in the Colts' Week 2 loss to the Cardinals.

It was a rough day at the office for Mack, who is a boom-bust runner and doesn't get enough running room to rip off many "booms" behind the Colts' low-level offensive line. Mack did have a 24-yard run in Week 1, but he managed a total of zero yards on his other nine carries, and then was a net-negative on the Week 2 offense. He's merely a Dynasty-league stash at this point.
