Former Dolphins, Chiefs and Texans G Wade Smith announced his retirement.
Smith, a third-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2003, made 98 starts and one Pro Bowl. He'll be remembered most as the Texans' reliable left guard from 2010-13, never missing a game. Smith will turn 34 later this month. "Now I am looking forward to creating new starts for our youth, tackling literacy and scoring many more touchdowns through the Wade Smith Foundation," he said. Eagles released G/T Wade Smith.

Even with all the Eagles' injuries up front, Smith had played just 18 snaps through six games. Smith was a 16-game starter for the Texans each of the past four seasons, but now 33, he appears to be living on borrowed NFL time.

Eagles signed OG Wade Smith.

A 16-game starter each of the past four seasons for the Texans, Smith provides depth with the Eagles missing four of their top seven offensive linemen. Smith has dabbled at tackle in the past, but played primarily guard. That's where he spent his entire tenure in Houston.

Seahawks waived or released OG Wade Smith, OT Cory Brandon, RB Demitrius Bronson, S Mike Dobson, WR Kevin Smith and CB Thomas Wolfe.

Smith is the most notable name. He was a 16-game starter for the Texans last season, but struggled mightily. The fact that he couldn't even make it to final cuts is a sign he's near the end. That being said, Smith's durability and 98 career starts could eventually earn him a look for an interior-needy team.

Seahawks signed LG Wade Smith, formerly of the Texans.

33-year-old Smith graded out poorly across the board in Pro Football Focus' 2013 ratings, but he is familiar with Seahawks OL Tom Cable's zone scheme and can offer veteran depth. Smith seems unlikely to push for a starting job.

The Texans haven't ruled out re-signing free agent LG Wade Smith.

Smith has been a starter the last four seasons with Houston and could be re-signed at the right price. He's Rotoworld's No. 8 remaining free agent guard.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have "some level of interest" in free agent OLs Wade Smith, Daryn Colledge, Evan Dietrich-Smith, and Davin Joseph.

Smith, 33 next month, can play either guard spot, in addition to center. He hasn't missed a start in four seasons and spent the first four years of his career with the Dolphins. GM Dennis Hickey is doing his homework on offensive linemen. He still has to potentially fill holes at left guard, right guard, and right tackle.

The Texans have urged free agent LG Wade Smith to test the market.

It's a sign they're not particularly interested in signing the 33-year-old (in April). Smith can play both guard spots and center, and he even started a game at left tackle for the Chiefs in 2009. Smith has battled various knee issues the past couple seasons but is near the top of a weak free-agent guard market.

Free agent LG Wade Smith said he "had a little procedure on my knees, to get them ready for this next season."

Smith battled knee issues last summer and underwent a knee scope before starting all 16 games for the fourth consecutive season. The soon-to-be 33-year-old wants to re-sign with the Texans and has talked with coach Bill O'Brien. Smith was Pro Football Focus' No. 59 guard out of 81 qualifiers last season.

Texans LG Wade Smith (knee) is practicing in full this week, and will start Monday's opener against the Chargers.

According to coach Gary Kubiak, Smith made "one heck of a recovery" from his August knee scope. Smith hasn't missed a game since 2008.

Texans LG Wade Smith (knee) said there's a "really good chance" he'll be ready for Week 1.

Smith underwent a minor knee scope earlier this month, but expects to be ready for the season opener. Ben Jones has been getting first-team reps at left guard in his absence. Smith hasn't missed a game since 2008.

Texans LG Wade Smith (knee scope) hasn't been ruled out for Week 1.

Smith went under the knife last Tuesday. He has 20 days to get ready for Houston's Monday night opener. The 2012 Pro Bowler hasn't missed a game since 2008.

Texans LG Wade Smith underwent a scope on his knee and is out an undetermined amount of time.

We suspect this is related to the knee scope Smith underwent after the season. If so, it's a real concern for the Texans. Smith started all 16 games last year, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 13 left guard and making his first Pro Bowl. Backup Ben Jones was forced into nine starts at right guard last year and struggled badly as a pass protector.

Texans LG Wade Smith underwent "a little knee scope" after the Pro Bowl.

Smith, 32 in two weeks, made his first career Pro Bowl this past season, and he graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 13 left guard. Sandwiched between left tackle Duane Brown and center Chris Myers, the trio makes up one of the league's best left sides. Smith should be good to go for training camp.

GM Rick Smith credits LG Wade Smith as the glue to the Texans' improved offensive line last season.

"To a man, all of our offensive linemen said, 'Hey, we were a better unit, and a lot of it had to do with Wade's addition,'" explained the GM. The same O-Line that paved the way for Arian Foster's 1,616 yards, an NFL record for an undrafted player, returns intact for 2011.
