49ers released FB/RB Rock Cartwright.
The Niners are stacked with big backs like Anthony Dixon and Brandon Jacobs. Cartwright won't last on the open market long as a versatile back that also excels on special teams. Fri, Aug 31, 2012 03:37:00 PM

49ers signed RB Rock Cartwright to a one-year contract.

A career special teamer save for two short stints in Washington, Cartwright appeared in 31 games for the Raiders the past two seasons. He's carried the ball only 13 times since 2009. He'll help make up for the loss of Blake Costanzo on the Niners' special teams unit.

Raiders agreed to terms with RB Rock Cartwright on an undisclosed contract.

Owner Al Davis has been writing checks all day long. As noted by Rotoworld's Evan Silva, the Raiders have signed off on $80.6 million worth of contracts over the past nine days. Cartwright will return as a special teams ace and fourth-string running back.

Veterans Michael Bennett and Rock Cartwright are competing for the Raiders' third-string running back role.

Only one of the two is expected to make the final roster, and the race is neck and neck heading into Oakland's preseason opener. Barring injury to Michael Bush or Darren McFadden, the winner will not have a fantasy impact.

Raiders signed RB/KR Rock Cartwright to a one-year contract.

Cartwright, 30, averaged just 3.6 yards per carry in 16 games last season, starting two late in the year before losing his spot on the depth chart to the similarly pedestrian Quinton Ganther. Cartwright also lacks homerun speed in the kick return department. Ideally, he won't see the field much in Oakland.

Chick Hernandez of Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area reports that the Raiders have signed free agent RB/KR Rock Cartwright.

The deal is reportedly for one year. Cartwright, a special teamer, won't be a candidate for tailback snaps behind Darren McFadden and Michael Bush.

Redskins released RB/KR Rock Cartwright.

The late-season waiver darling lost kick return duties late in the year, and he's never been a legit option as a runner. The 30-year-old special teamer wasn't worth $1.5 million with a new regime in town.

Redskins RB/KR Rock Cartwright said Wednesday that he believes he's fallen into coach Jim Zorn's "doghouse."

Cartwright has lost his kick return duties to Devin Thomas and is being weeded out of the offense after a two-game stint as the Skins' primary back. Playing behind Quinton Ganther in Week 14, Cartwright saw just two touches.

Rock Cartwright has asked to go back on special teams full time after getting his starting running back job stripped.

Cartwright complained that he didn't get enough carries to get in a rythym, but the real issue is that he's not that good and is 30 years old. Quinton Ganther at least has a shred of upside at age 25. Neither one is the long-term answer for the Redskins and we're still expecting some kind of committee going forward.

Coach Jim Zorn said Monday that the Redskins will continue to use a running-back-by-committee approach until Clinton Portis (concussion) returns.

Rock Cartwright started Sunday's loss but was outplayed by Quinton Ganther, who finished with a team-high 46 yards rushing. Carwright managed just 39 yards on 13 carries. Portis' status is very questionable for Week 14.

Rock Cartwright rushed 13 times for 39 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards in Week 13 against the Saints.

Cartwright now has 20, 18 and 16 touches in the past three weeks and will continue to be the Redskins' primary back until Clinton Portis returns. He's worth using as a RB3/FLEX.

Rock Cartwright rushed 15 times for 38 yards and caught three passes for 26 yards in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Cartwright was the obvious feature back, but he struggled to break tackles or make anyone miss. It's the reason he was a third-stringer when the season started. The Redskins didn't have any true goal-line carries, but it looked like Marcus Mason was the preferred option in short-yardage. Cartwright will get the same workload against the Saints next week.
Sun, Nov 29, 2009 04:38:00 PM

Redskins coach Jim Zorn confirmed that Rock Cartwright will be the feature back this week, with Quinton Ganther and Marcus Mason also rotating in.

It's not a coincidence that Cartwright was a special teamer for his entire career. He's not that talented, but he runs hard and it very motivated to prove he can handle this opportunity. Look for about 15 touches out of Cartwright Sunday against the Eagles, making him a solid flex play.

Rock Cartwright stepped in for an injured Ladell Betts and picked up 140 total yards in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

Clinton Portis has already been ruled out for Week 12, and Betts reportedly has a torn MCL. That will make Cartwright the Redskins' starter and he won't be threatened by Quinton Ganther. He's a solid pass-catcher (seven grabs Sunday) and will be a hot waiver wire add this week.
Sun, Nov 22, 2009 05:47:00 PM

Rock Cartwright ran for 41 yards on nine carries and caught two balls for nine yards in Week 10.

Washington ran the ball 40 times compared to 27 runs, which they won't be able to do often going forward. Cartwright, however, has proven capable as a ball carrier since Clinton Portis' concussion in the first quarter in Week 9. The special teamer isn't a fantasy option, but will remain active as Ladell's "change of pace" until/if Portis comes back.
