The Miami defense has allowed 161.3 rushing yards per game over the last six weeks.
The run-stopping slump does not bode well for Miami as they prepare to face the New England Patriots, who have rushed for 123.3 yards per game in the same six-game stretch. Miami surrendered 31 points to the Patriots in Week 2 with Jimmy Garoppolo under center for New England, and will obviously face tougher quarterback competition this weekend. The Dolphins D/ST won't be a viable fantasy option in Week 17 for fantasy owners still hunting for league titles. Wed, Dec 28, 2016 04:49:00 PM

Miami will look to LB Mike Hull if LB Kiko Alonso (thumb) is inactive in Week 14.

Hull had played just one snap this season prior to Week 13, but saw 26 snaps after Alonso suffered a thumb injury last week. Hull made the most of his time, recording four tackles in limited action. Miami will look to bounce back after being shredded by Joe Flacco and the Ravens in Week 13, when the Baltimore quarterback threw for 381 yards and four scores. The Dolphins D/ST is a mid-tier fantasy option in Week 14 at home against Arizona, who has allowed two or more sacks in six consecutive games.

Miami defensive end Andre Branch has recorded 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks in four games since being installed as a starter.

"The first few games I wasn’t a starter. But I just kept my head down and worked my tail off, and now it’s starting to work in my favor," Branch said. Branch and fellow DE Cameron Wake have increased pressure on opposing quarterbacks and the Dolphins have racked up 10 sacks in their last three games. Miami will face Los Angeles in Week 11, where the Dolphins D/ST will be a prime streaming candidate with Rams rookie QB Jared Goff set to make his first career start.

The Miami defense has allowed just 177.3 passing yards per game in their last three contests.

The Dolphins will look to continue their defensive improvements on Sunday against turnover-prone Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets. Miami should be well rested before the plus home matchup after enjoying a Week 8 bye, making the Dolphins D/ST a very respectable streaming option in fantasy leagues.

The Miami Dolphins are preparing to face Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown in Week 6, who has caught a league-high 173 passes since the start of the 2015 season.

The Miami defense will have to rely on struggling CB Byron Maxwell in coverage with CB Xavien Howard (knee) sidelined. "He don’t stop. He keeps going. He can run all of the routes. Not many guys can do that," Maxwell said of Brown. The Dolphins are currently 28th in total defense and will not pose a threat to the Pittsburgh offense that has averaged 436 yards since the return of RB Le'Veon Bell. The Dolphins D/ST is not worth fantasy consideration this week.

Miami LB Donald Butler will start at strong-side linebacker on Thursday night with Koa Misi (neck) ruled out.

In addition, the Dolphins will be scaling back CB Byron Maxwell's involvement this week. The Miami defense has struggled early in the 2016 season and will face Andy Dalton in Week 4 after taking on Cody Kessler, Jimmy Garoppolo, and an injured Russell Wilson. Dalton has taken a league-high 12 sacks through three games, but the Dolphins D/ST is still a risky bet in fantasy leagues on Thursday night.

The Miami defense will look to take advantage of the Seattle offensive line that recently lost rookie G Germain Ifedi (ankle).

Pro Football Focus ranked the Seattle offensive line dead-last among all 32 NFL teams, and that was with a healthy Ifedi. The Dolphins will look to DE Mario Williams and DT Ndamukong Suh to apply pressure on Seattle QB Russell Wilson, but dragging Wilson down after flushing him from the pocket is a different issue entirely. The Dolphins D/ST can be safely avoided in fantasy leagues this week on the road, despite the advantage in the trenches.

Miami is currently 30th among NFL defenses in forcing turnovers, taking the ball away from their opposition just 16 times in 15 games.

Miami's turnover struggles will likely continue through the end of the regular season, as the New England Patriots visit Sun Life Stadium in Week 17. Tom Brady and company have turned the ball over just 14 times in 2015, the second-lowest total in the NFL. The Dolphins D/ST will be an unstartable fantasy option this week.

The Miami defense is allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete passes at a 65.6 percent clip in 2015.

That mark is 25th among NFL defenses, and is on pace to set a new Dolphins franchise-high, according to the Miami Herald. The previous franchise record was 62.5 percent, set in the 1996 season. The Miami defense has been a wreck this season, and has allowed 30 or more points in three of the last four weeks. Even against a banged-up Matt Hasselbeck, it is hard to endorse the Dolphins D/ST in fantasy leagues this week.

The Miami Dolphins travel to San Diego in Week 15 to face the Chargers, who have failed to find the end zone in three of their last four games.

The Chargers have managed just a field goal in those contests and have hit rock bottom on offense. The San Diego running game checks in at 31st among NFL teams, and their passing game has taken a turn for the worst in recent weeks as injuries have hit the team hard. Due to the solid matchup, the Dolphins D/ST will be an interesting Week 15 streaming target for fantasy owners in need of defensive help.

The Miami defense has allowed 149.2 rushing yards per game over the last five weeks.

The recent slump has contributed to Miami's ranking of 30th among NFL defenses in defending the run. This week, the Miami defense will have a chance to improve against the New York Giants, who average only 88.1 yards on the ground each week, the 29th-most potent rushing attack in the NFL. Despite New York's lack of running success, the Dolphins still won't be a viable fantasy option in Week 14.

The Miami defense has allowed 30.0 points per game over the last five weeks, good for 29th in the NFL.

The most recent defensive collapse came last week against the Jets, when the Dolphins coughed up 38 points and 411 total yards. Miami hosts the Baltimore Ravens this week, making the Dolphins D/ST a potential streaming option due to the generosity of Baltimore QB Matt Schaub to opposing defenses. Despite Miami's struggles, they are worth a look this week.

The Miami defense has allowed more yards per catch to opposing tight ends than any other NFL team.

The Dolphins will have another test in Week 11 when Jason Witten visits Miami with QB Tony Romo back from injury. "We’ve addressed it and we know that we have one of the all-time great tight ends this weekend," defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said. "We’ve got to make sure we know exactly where he is and don’t ever get in that situation again." The Miami defense is not a startable Week 11 fantasy option with Romo back for Dallas.

Miami rookie CB Bobby McCain is expected to see more playing time in Week 10, according to coach Dan Campbell.

"[Bobby] has earned the right to get out there and compete," Campbell said. "Bobby McCain will play a little bit. Brice [McCain] will still be in the nickel." Perhaps Campbell is looking for a spark from his defense, as Miami has been crushed for 69 total points in their last two games, both losses. The Dolphins D/ST will be a middling option in Week 10 on the road at Philadelphia.
Fri, Nov 13, 2015 02:46:00 AM

Dolphins DE Chris McCain has moved from linebacker to defensive end and will attempt to help the Miami pass rush after the loss of DE Cameron Wake (Achilles').

With Wake out for the season, the Miami defense will be looking for help in the pass rush department and McCain will attempt to fill-in as the Dolphins travel to Buffalo in Week 9. The Bills have given up 20 sacks this season, so Miami will be in a decent spot to try out their new-look pass rush without Wake. The Dolphins D/ST is a top-10 fantasy option this week.
