Retired WR Chris Chambers is eying a return to the NFL.
Chambers announced his retirement in June, but has been conditioning for a potential return at an athletic training center he founded in Florida. Unlikely to generate much interest, Chambers, 33, did admit that he will retire if he doesn't latch on with a team this season. Mon, Jul 16, 2012 09:54:00 PM

Former Dolphins and Chiefs WR Chris Chambers has retired from football.

"I just want to be able to retire a Dolphin," he said. "I don’t know what I have to do to get that 1-day contract, but that will be my next goal." Now 33, Chambers tried out for the 49ers last October, but didn't earn an in-season deal. Chambers' career ends after 10 seasons. He made a Pro Bowl in 2005, though that went down as easily Chambers' best ever year. He never cleared 1,000 yards again.

In addition to T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the 49ers are also working out free agent WR Chris Chambers Tuesday.

There may be other lesser known names involved in the workout, as the Niners seem intent on adding a receiver. This is the first update we've done for Chambers, 33, since he was released by the Chiefs as soon as the lockout was lifted in late July.

Chiefs released WR Chris Chambers.

Chambers was never realistically going to be on the Chiefs' roster. He'll be 33 next month, was owed a $500,000 roster bonus on top of a $2.9 million base salary, and the Chiefs just landed Steve Breaston. With rapidly declining skills, Chambers' NFL future is as a No. 4 or 5 receiver at best. The Chiefs also released DB Jackie Bates.

In addition to a $2.9 million base salary, Chiefs WR Chris Chambers is also due a $500,000 roster bonus once the lockout is lifted.

Chambers drew $5.9 million in guarantees last year to catch 22 passes for 213 yards. The Chiefs can cut him this summer without losing a dime. That's exactly what will happen now that first-rounder Jonathan Baldwin is on board to take Chambers' roster spot.

FOX Sports' Adam Caplan expects the Chiefs to release Chris Chambers once transactions are allowed.

The K.C. Star basically predicted this in January. The Chiefs handed Chambers a three-year, $12 million contract with $5.9 million guaranteed last July, and he didn't come to play, losing his starting job to an assortment of undrafted rookie types. Chambers, 33 in August, would be due a $2.9 million salary.

Adam Teicher reports that Chris Chambers' time in Kansas City is likely over.

It's certainly no surprise, as Chambers has been in and out of coach Todd Haley's doghouse and was benched in favor of newly-signed Kevin Curtis Sunday. Chambers admits that he and Haley "didn’t see eye to eye on some things" but adds that he "definitely (has) more left in the tank." We'll at least agree with the first part.

Chiefs declared WR Chris Chambers, QB Tyler Palko, C Rudy Niswanger, DT Anthony Toribio, WR Quinten Lawrence, FB Mike Cox, DB Reshard Langford, and LB Charlie Anderson inactive for the Wild Card round game against the Ravens.

Less than a week after signing, Kevin Curtis is active behind Dwayne Bowe, Verran Tucker, and Dexter McCluster. It speaks ill of Chambers, who had been in and out of the lineup all season. Chambers won't be back in K.C. next year.

Chiefs declared WR Chris Chambers, CB Jackie Bates, FS Kendrick Lewis, CB Mike Richardson, FB Tim Castille, LB Charlie Anderson, C Rudy Niswanger, and DT Anthony Toribio out for Week 13 against the Broncos.

Chambers had been benched in favor of Verran Tucker for the past month. With Dexter McCluster (ankle) back and starting opposite Dwayne Bowe, Chambers isn't even suiting up.

Chris Chambers caught four passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' Week 10 loss to Denver.

The ghost of Chris Chambers reappeared for his first touchdown of the season and highest yardage total with Matt Cassel trying a year-high 53 passes. It's safe to leave Chambers on the waiver wire in all fantasy leagues.

Chris Chambers is frustrated with being a healthy inactive the last two weeks, saying it reminds him of his final days as a Charger.

Chambers' Chargers career ended with a whimper, but he was resurrected after arriving in Kansas City last season. The Chiefs are hoping he gets the wake-up call again, but we're not betting on it.

The Kansas City Star confirms that Chris Chambers was a healthy scratch for the second straight week Sunday.

Chambers is practicing with a heavily wrapped finger, but he isn't even listed on the injury report. The Chiefs are essentially going with Dwayne Bowe as their only wideout. Rookie "slash" Dexter McCluster was listed as a starting receiver opposite Bowe Sunday.

Chiefs declared Chris Chambers, RB Jackie Battle, FB Tim Castille, S Reshard Langford, C Rudy Niswanger, DT Attiyyah Ellison, and LB Charlie Anderson inactive for Week 7 against the Jaguars.

Chambers appears to be falling out of favor as a healthy scratch. He practiced in full all week, and coach Todd Haley indicated it wasn't the finger injury that kept him out last week. Chambers should be dropped in all leagues.
Sun, Oct 24, 2010 11:59:00 AM

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said it wasn't injury that kept Chris Chambers from being active last week.

Chambers has dealt with a finger injury, but it was apparently his seven catches in four games that kept him on the sidelines. The veteran was surprisingly good for the Chiefs last season, but he's far from a fantasy option right now.

Chris Chambers (finger) has resumed practicing in full this week.

Chambers was a surprise inactive in Week 6, but it doesn't matter much. The 32-year-old "receiver" has caught seven passes in four 2010 appearances.
