Browns released RT John St. Clair.
St. Clair was due nearly $3.3 million and turns 34 this summer. Credit the Browns for shedding a ton of washed-up weight Wednesday. A 24-game starter for Cleveland over the past two seasons, St. Clair was a liability as a pass protector and below average in run blocking. He may catch on as a swing tackle elsewhere, but his days as a viable starter are long gone. Wed, Feb 9, 2011 06:35:00 PM

Browns RT John St. Clair (ankle) is still nursing an ankle injury and not expected to play in Week 7.

With St. Clair still banged up and Tony Pashos now done for the year, coach Eric Mangini said Floyd Womack, Paul McQuistan and Eric Steinbach will work at right tackle this week in practice. Rookie Shawn Lauvao (ankle) is expected back this week and will help out at guard.

Browns RT John St. Clair (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 6 against Pittsburgh.

Backup Tony Pashos has performed well while filling in for St. Clair, but faces an uphill battle against the Steelers' fourth-ranked defense.

Browns RT John St. Clair left Sunday's game in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

The Browns are calling him questionable to return. St. Clair won the Browns' starting right tackle job over Tony Pashos in training camp, but Pashos is the superior run blocker. The downgrade isn't significant.

The Browns are still unsure how the right side of their offensive line will shake out this week.

John St. Clair is still listed as the starting tackle ahead of Tony Pashos, but he's also considered a candidate inside. Rookie guard Shawn Lauvao missed Thursday's practice after twisting his ankle on Wednesday. Porkchop Womack is expected to hold down right guard against the Bucs on Sunday.

Browns signed OL John St. Clair to a three-year, $9 million contract.

Cleveland doubled Chicago's offer in max worth, but only guaranteed St. Clair $1.25 million. It leaves the Bears in serious trouble at both tackles. St. Clair, 32 in July, can play both guard and tackle. He'll likely be penciled in at RT for now, with Floyd Womack and Ryan Tucker pushing for time.

The Browns' contract offer to free agent OL John St. Clair is reportedly for three years.

The Chicago Tribune doesn't have financial terms, but we can probably assume that it's worth more than the $4.5 million Chicago has on the table. St. Clair is tentatively expected to choose a team by the end of the week.

The Browns have extended free agent OL John St. Clair a contract offer.

St. Clair is 32 this season and likely looking to max out. It shouldn't be hard for Cleveland to beat out Chicago's three-year, $4.5 million proposal.

Free agent OL John St. Clair will visit the Browns on Monday.

Chicago has a three-year, $4.5 million offer on the table, but Cleveland may be preparing something more lucrative. The Browns just cut incumbent starter Kevin Shaffer and have a glaring need at right tackle.

Bears beat writer Brad Biggs expects a resolution between the team and free agent OT John St. Clair by the end of the week.

St. Clair isn't getting much interest elsewhere and Chicago can guarantee him a starting job at right tackle, so it's likely he'll return. The 32-year-old figures to command a three-year deal in the $12-15 million range.

Despite the signing of Frank Omiyale, the Bears remain interested in bringing back free agent John St. Clair.

Neither Omiyale nor LT Chris Williams has much starting experience. St. Clair would add insurance and possibly knock Omiyale into a reserve role if he's re-signed. Omiyale's $11.5 million deal isn't necessarily starter's money. St. Clair can also play guard, a position Chicago has some question marks at.

The Bears have formally submitted a contract offer to free agent OT John St. Clair.

The proposal is for three years and probably about $5-6 million annually. Vernon Carey's six-year, $42M deal reset the tackle market, however, and St. Clair may wait for free agency to compare the Bears' offer against others.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo confirmed that the organization is working to re-sign free agent OT John St. Clair.

St. Clair turns 32 in July and is coming off a so-so year, but has leverage because Chicago is desperate to keep him. The club may have to overpay.

With RT John Tait expected to retire, the Bears are ramping up their efforts to re-sign free agent OT John St. Clair.

St. Clair would prefer to test the market, so the now desperate Bears are going to have to change his mind before free agency starts on Feb. 27. If signed, St. Clair would move into Tait's spot with Chris Williams taking over at left tackle.

Unsigned Bears OL John St. Clair fully intends to test the free agent waters.

St. Clair turns 32 in July, so this is his last shot at a sizable contract. He offers position versatility, but is a liability in pass protection if left without help.
