Retired quarterback Jay Fiedler says the Dolphins tried to steal signals from the Patriots when he played.
"There were times in games when we knew certain defensive calls from what we were able to gather during the game or our scouts’ eyesight," Fiedler revealed. He called knowing defensive signals "a huge advantage. If the quarterback knows what’s coming, he can dissect it at the line of scrimmage." Wed, May 14, 2008 05:20:00 PM

Former Bucs, Dolphins, and Jets quarterback Jay Fiedler has taken up pro beach volleyball.

He made his debut Thursday and lost. The AP says "Fiedler retired in 2006," but he was making free agent visits as recently as last April. He finishes his career with a 69-66 TD to INT ratio and 11,844 passing yards in eight years. His best season was 2001, when Fiedler led Miami to the Division Round.

The Giants have reportedly made inquiries about free agent Jay Fiedler.

The Jints might bring in competition for Tim Hasselbeck and Jared Lorenzen like last offseason, only this year it could be a 35-year-old coming off shoulder surgery instead of the venerable Rob Johnson.

Free agent Jay Fielder will visit the Falcons on Wednesday.

After being cut by Tampa Bay late last August, Fiedler underwent exploratory shoulder surgery. Atlanta will see if he's healthy before signing Fiedler to compete with D.J. Shockley and Chris Redman.

QB Jay Fiedler is expected to undergo exploratory shoulder surgery.

Fiedler, who was waived during the preseason, is unlikely to return to the Bucs unless his shoulder shows improvement. He was originally signed to back up QB Chris Simms.

Bucs released QB Jay Fiedler and signed OT Cornell Green.

Fiedler was unable to practice in training camp or play in the preseason due to a shoulder injury. The decision to part ways with him shows the Bucs are confident in rookie Bruce Gradkowski as their No. 2 quarterback. Green will provide depth to the offensive line.

Injured QB Jay Fiedler (shoulder) is reportedly unlikely to start the season on Tampa Bay's active 53-man roster.

Fiedler did not practice at all during training camp and is not expected to play in the exhibition finale. He's a candidate for Physically-Unable-to-Perform. Rookie Bruce Gradkowski is the favorite to serve as Tampa's No. 2 quarterback behind Chris Simms.

Bucs QB Jay Fiedler (shoulder) may not be ready in time for Week 1.

New Bucs QB Jay Fiedler may not be ready to participate fully in training camp.

It's uncertain whether his shoulder will allow him to throw twice a day. We don't think Tampa would have signed him unless he was likely to beat out Tim Rattay for a roster spot.

Bucs signed QB Jay Fiedler to a one-year contract.

With Luke McCown likely out for the season, Fiedler should compete with Tim Rattay for the No. 2 QB job. Fiedler started his career under Gruden in Philadelphia and probably has a decided edge if his surgically repaired shoulder holds up.

Free agent QB Jay Fiedler is in talks with three teams.

It's uncertain how close Fielder actually is to be able to play. The three teams are the Bucs, Giants, and a nameless third team that is probably the Patriots.

Former Dolphins and Jets QB Jay Fielder was at Bucs practice Thursday.

With Luke McCown injured, coach Jon Gruden wants a veteran quarterback to backup Chris Simms. Fiedler is recovering from a shoulder injury, but it's clear Gruden isn't confident in Tim Rattay.

The St. Petersburg Times expects the Bucs to bring in a veteran quarterback before training camp begins.

In the wake of Luke McCown's ACL injury, the paper calls Jay Fiedler the most likely QB on the market to become a Buc. Tim Rattay is expected to serve as the No. 2 for now.
