Kerryon Johnson produced 51 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while also snaring six catches for 38 yards and another touchdown on six targets Sunday in Detroit’s Week 10 loss to the Bears.
Sunday was a day of peaks and valleys for Johnson, who scored by leaping over the pile for a one-yard, goal-line touchdown with 1:05 remaining in the first half. Prince Amukamara stripped Johnson in the third quarter, resulting in Detroit's second turnover of the afternoon. That was a costly mistake for Kerryon, though the rookie redeemed himself by scoring a late touchdown on a 13-yard screen pass from Matthew Stafford. The 21-year-old was checked for a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter but only missed a handful of snaps. Johnson ceded some passing-down work to Theo Riddick but out-touched fading veteran LeGarrette Blount by an overwhelming 20-6 margin. Johnson and the struggling Lions will try to erase a three-game losing skid next week against a Panthers squad that was thoroughly whooped by Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Nov 11 - 4:46 PM

Date:

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) is active for Week 10 against the Bears.

Johnson had been questionable with an ankle injury. He'll lead the backfield with power back LeGarrette Blount mixing in as a change-of-pace option. Theo Riddick will also get reps as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. OT Andrew Donnal, WR Bruce Ellington, LB Eli Harold, OG T.J. Lang, LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin, CB Darius Slay and TE Luke Willson round out Detroit's inactives for Week 10.

Kerryon Johnson (questionable, ankle) is expected to play Week 10 against the Bears.

Kerryon was only able to get in limited practice reps this week, but he was never in danger of missing Sunday's game at Soldier Field. The rookie has averaged a meager 2.95 yards per carry with no touchdowns over his last two games, though he's out-touched teammate LeGarrette Blount 29-10 during that span. Playing on the road against an elite Bears defense, Johnson will be a lower-end RB2 this week.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Though we can expect Johnson to see his normal workload this week despite his ankle injury, he'll have his work cut out for him against Khalil Mack and the stout Bears defensive line. Look for Legarrette Blount to see some work as the change-of-pace back, with Theo Riddick also contributing as a pass-catcher. Johnson is nothing more than a GPP flier this week for DFS purposes due to the difficult matchup and unfavorable game script with the Lions likely playing from behind.
Nov 11 - 8:13 AM

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) is questionable for Week 10 against the Bears.

Johnson's been limited in practice all week, though we expect he'll play. If the rookie's absent, LeGarrette Blount would receive a few more carries. It's also possible the Lions mix in Zach Zenner in a lesser role to keep all fresh. Riddick would benefit the most as he remains the only back additionally involved in the team's passing game.
Nov 9 - 3:18 PM

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) remained limited at Thursday's practice.

Johnson has taken it easy in practice this week, but should be ready for Sunday's game in Chicago. He's slumped recently, managing just 59 yards on 20 carries (2.95 yards per attempt) over his last two games.
Nov 8 - 4:07 PM

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

It's a new injury for Johnson, though his presence at Wednesday's session, albeit in a limited capacity, suggests it's nothing serious. Johnson has fallen off a bit since his breakout Week 7 (179 yards on 21 touches against Miami), but the rookie still belongs in the RB2 mix for Sunday's divisional tilt in the Windy City.
Nov 7 - 5:06 PM

Kerryon Johnson rushed 12 times for 37 yards in the Lions' Week 9 loss to the Vikings.

He added three catches for seven yards on five targets. The Lions didn't score a touchdown on Sunday. Theo Riddick returned to the lineup after missing two games and tied Marvin Jones for the team lead with eight targets, hurting Johnson's pass-game role a bit, though the five targets was a fine number. One of those targets was in the end zone. Johnson will be a back-end RB2 next week when the Lions travel to Chicago to face a tough defense.
Nov 4 - 4:15 PM

Kerryon Johnson played 48-of-59 snaps (81 percent) Week 8 against the Seahawks.

LeGarrette Blount played just seven. The usage was at least partly game-script driven, and it came with Theo Riddick sidelined by a knee injury. Still, it is another promising development for the rookie, who has now touched the ball at least 10 times in every game since Week 1. Even in a tough matchup against the Vikings, Johnson will remain in the RB2 conversation.
Oct 29 - 11:44 AM

Kerryon Johnson rushed eight times for 22 yards in the Lions' Week 8 loss to the Seahawks, adding six receptions for 69 additional yards.

Johnson had a bust of a day on the ground as the Lions spent the entire game playing from behind but was able to partially make up for it through the air. Johnson's (by far) season-best day as a receiver came as Theo Riddick (knee) missed his second-consecutive contest. Riddick's health will go a long way toward determining Johnson's fantasy status for a tough Week 9 matchup with the Vikings.
Oct 28 - 4:56 PM

Kerryon Johnson rushed 19 times for 158 yards in the Lions' Week 7 win over the Dolphins, adding two receptions for 21 additional yards.

Johnson found the edge for 24 yards on the Lions' first play from scrimmage and never looked back. The Lions' 248 yards rushing were their most since the Barry Sanders era in 1997. Continually ripping chunk gains, Johnson's longest was a 71-yarder to begin the second quarter. Untouched through the hole, Johnson found the sideline. Johnson's YPC is now a ridiculous 6.43 through 69 carries. His 19 totes today were a new season high. LeGarrette Blount remained involved, but Johnson is forcing the Lions' hand. He's a locked-in, upside RB2.
Oct 21 - 4:06 PM

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) is practicing in full for Week 7 against the Dolphins.

Johnson suffered a minor ankle injury in his last game, but he had the bye week to heal up. He'll continue to split carries with LeGarrette Blount.
Oct 18 - 4:07 PM

Kerryon Johnson (ankle) said after the Week 5 win over the Packers that he's "fine."

Johnson had to leave after his 12th carry resulted in a 24-yard gain. He landed awkwardly as he went out of bounds and finished the day with 85 total yards. The Lions' bye week comes at the perfect time for Johnson to get healthy ahead of Week 7 in Miami. Johnson remains an RB2/3 for now.

Oct 7 - 6:14 PM

Kerryon Johnson exited Week 5 against the Packers with an ankle injury.

Johnson was injured at the end of a 24-yard run to set up Kenny Golladay's short touchdown catch. Prior to leaving, Johnson amassed 70 yards on 12 carries and caught a pair of passes for 15 yards on two targets. He watched LeGarrette Blount vulture two short rushing touchdowns. Johnson was trying to walk the injury off on the sideline but eventually had to go to the locker room.
Oct 7 - 4:00 PM

Lions coach Matt Patricia believes Kerryon Johnson is getting enough work.

That makes one of us. Despite starting the game with a massive run and looking explosive when he touched the ball, Johnson played just 20 snaps against the Cowboys, five fewer than Theo Riddick and just six more than LeGarrette Blount, who also was given only two fewer carries. Patricia called that workload "quite a bit of reps" while extolling the virtues of a committee. "We feel that we have a really good strong running-back group," Patricia said. "They’re all outstanding players and we’re just going to continue to try to improve them just like we are every position." His play warrants more work, but it does not sound like Johnson will be able to escape this committee anytime soon.
Oct 2 - 10:21 AM

Kerryon Johnson delivered 55 yards and a touchdown on nine carries while converting his lone target for a one-yard gain Sunday in Detroit’s Week 4 loss to the Lions.

Coming off a 101-yard breakout in Week 3, Johnson got off to a booming start in this one, shredding the Cowboys for 32 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Unfortunately his involvement dwindled after that, particularly after halftime as the rookie was limited to just three second-half touches. The Auburn alum salvaged the day for fantasy owners by punching in an eight-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Despite soundly outperforming LeGarrette Blount for the second straight week, Johnson out-touched the veteran by a slim 10-7 margin while only seeing six more snaps. With Blount continuing to eat into Johnson's workload, the 21-year-old will just be a back-end RB2 for next week's home game against the Packers.
