Speaking Monday, Browns coach Hue Jackson once again claimed he would work to get Nick Chubb more carries.
"We do need to get Nick Chubb more carries," was Jackson's exact quote. He said the same thing two weeks away and has proceeded to give Chubb the ball six times over the past two games. With Carlos Hyde averaging just 3.35 yards per carry, perhaps Jackson means it this time. Chubb remains worth holding in 12-team leagues. Oct 15 - 2:45 PM

Nick Chubb rushed three times for 25 yards in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Chargers.

Chubb once again showed off his explosion with a 19-yard scamper which would have been longer had there not been a holding downfield, but once again the Browns failed to use him in the game. Chubb has now carried the ball three times or less in every game this season. He is only a bench stash at this point and needs an injury to have fantasy relevancy.
Oct 14 - 5:24 PM

Nick Chubb rushed three times for two yards in Sunday's Week 5 win over the Ravens.

After the Cleveland staff spent most of the week suggesting Chubb's role would expand after turning three carries into 105 yards a week ago, he remained an afterthought in the game plan. Chubb is only a bench stash as Carlos Hyde has dominated backfield touches in Cleveland.

Speaking Monday, Browns coach Hue Jackson said Nick Chubb "has to get some."

"(Carlos) Hyde is playing well, but this guy is scoring touchdowns from long ways away," Jackson said. "We have good backs. We know that. Sometimes it is going to be hit and miss where some other guy is making it happen and then the other guy goes in and does it." Chubb is a freak athlete big-play threat who could certainly change the pace for the better in the Browns' offense. It's still extremely unlikely he comes into standalone fantasy value as long as Hyde is healthy. Hyde, of course, has an extensive injury history. Chubb is a must stash in all formats.
Oct 2 - 3:45 PM

Nick Chubb rushed three times for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' Week 4 loss to the Raiders.

He was not targeted in the passing game and got out-touched by Carlos Hyde 22 to 3, but Chubb made his workload count with two monster touchdown runs from 63 and 41 yards out. Plays like that are capable of earning Chubb more playing time going forward, although Chubb's to-date usage keeps him out of the flex-starter discussion. The Browns have stayed very committed to Hyde as their bellcow. Chubb is a handcuff until further notice.
Sep 30 - 8:45 PM

Nick Chubb rushed 14 times for 46 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.

The No. 35 overall pick wasn't targeted in the passing game. Chubb got some run with the first-team offense, but the majority of his snaps came after the break. Chubb's only first half run was his most impressive, as he showed off his signature tackle-breaking ability on a pinballing 21-yard gain. Chubb could make a huge fantasy impact in 2018, but not without Carlos Hyde getting hurt. Considering Hyde's injury history, there's a real chance Chubb ends up getting run.
Aug 23 - 11:22 PM

Browns RB Nick Chubb rushed 11 times for 53 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game versus the Bills.

Chubb added two receptions for zero yards in the receiving game. A week after finding no room to run, Chubb still ran into offensive issues on Friday, having runs of 14 and 17 yards surround a handful of carries where he was hit in the backfield. Chubb's best run came on a 17-yard scamper off the left side where he went out of bounds at the 1-yard line, setting up his own touchdown plunge three plays later. Chubb is the clear backup to Carlos Hyde and is even behind Duke Johnson for rushing volume. Chubb is nothing but a late-round stash at this stage for fantasy purposes.
Aug 17 - 10:43 PM

Browns RB Nick Chubb rushed 15 times for 11 yards while catching one pass for 12 yards in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Giants

Chubb's longest rush of the night was just four yards, but his low-yardage total was largely not his fault. The Browns backup line was dominated in the run game as Chubb frequently was hit in the backfield on the majority of his carries, forcing him to break tackles and fight back to the line of scrimmage on his attempts. Chubb however appears to be well behind Carlos Hyde for the early-down role in the offense as Hyde played just three snaps in the game before being put on ice. Chubb will look for more room to run next week against the Bills.
Aug 9 - 9:56 PM

ESPN's Pat McManamon writes it "would not be surprising" if second-rounder Nick Chubb wins "the bulk" of the early-down carries.

Duke Johnson will keep his role on passing downs, but Chubb and free-agent addition Carlos Hyde will battle it out for early-down carries. A committee approach seems the most likely outcome, especially early in the season, but McManamon gives Chubb a chance to win the job outright in camp. If he does, his eighth-round ADP will be a value.

Browns RBs coach Freddie Kitchens said the team will ride the "hot hand" in the backfield this season.

"If they are having success why would you change?" Kitchens said. "All three of those guys -- Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson, and Nick Chubb -- can run our running game." Tyrod Taylor recently praised Hyde's deceptive ability in the pass game, while Kitchens noted how "violent" Chubb is as a runner, something the offense desires at the position. New OC Todd Haley rode Le'Veon Bell hard in Pittsburgh and would likely prefer one emerges from the pack. Hyde is expected to get the first crack at things, but Chubb is fully expected to challenge him at some point. This is one of the more intriguing position battles to watch this summer.
Jun 22 - 9:43 AM

Browns signed second-round RB Nick Chubb to a four-year contract.

Playing in the SEC, Chubb broke tackles at one of the nation’s highest rates and showed high-end athleticism as this running back class’ No. 2 SPARQ athlete behind Saquon Barkley, running 4.52 with a springy 10-foot-8 broad jump at the Combine. On tape, Chubb reminds of Jonathan Stewart in his prime with flashes of Jamal Lewis. Chubb was pulled on passing downs at Georgia, however, a red flag for his three-down viability. How touches will shake out between Chubb, Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson will be settled this summer.
Jun 4 - 2:05 PM

Browns selected Georgia RB Nick Chubb with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Chubb (5’11/227) was a 2015 Heisman candidate before shredding his left PCL, MCL, and LCL six games in, only to make a stunningly quick recovery and play out his final two years, logging a 758/4,769/6.3/44 career rushing line with 31 receptions. Chubb broke tackles at one of the nation’s highest rates and showed high-end athleticism as this running back class’ No. The Browns signed Carlos Hyde and also roster Duke Johnson, so Chubb's early path to touches might be difficult.
