Eddie Kennison admits he didn't want to stop playing before signing a ceremonial contract to retire a Chief on Monday.
Kennison had been out of the league since 2008. "The decision to retire was not actually mine," he said. "It was the National Football League or the teams in the National Football League that said, ‘He’s probably too old to play.’ To them, 37 is 107 in dog years." Kennison finished his career seventh all-time on the Chiefs' franchise receiving list. Though he topped 1,000 yards twice and averaged 15.2 yards per catch for his career, he never made a Pro Bowl. Chiefs signed free agent WR Eddie Kennison to a one-day contract in advance of Kennison announcing his retirement.

The 12-year veteran had his best seasons with the Chiefs, setting career highs in catches (68) and yardage (1,102) in 2005. The former first-round pick out of LSU finishes with 548 career receptions and 42 touchdowns.

Rams released WR Eddie Kennison.

Kennison showed very little in his few-game stint as a backup receiver for St. Louis, catching no passes. He may not find work in the league again.

Hours after releasing WR Eddie Kennison, the Rams have re-signed him.

The Rams received medical information that Dane Looker wasn't yet cleared to play after suffering a concussion in Week 4. Looker may yet be cleared later this week, but the team didn't want to get caught short-handed in the meantime.

Rams released WR Eddie Kennison.

Probably the end of the line for Kennison. The Rams hope Drew Bennett and Keenan Burton will be available for Week 7, so he was no longer needed for insurance. Wide receiver Derek Stanley is expected to be activated from the practice squad later in the week.

Rams declared WR Eddie Kennison, QB Brock Berlin, RB Brian Leonard, S Brannon Condren, G Jacob Bell, G Roy Schuening, WR Drew Bennett, and DE Leonard Little inactive for Week 2 against the Giants.

Chris Long starts at left end, with James Hall on the right. Kennison apparently isn't ready to contribute. Donnie Avery makes his NFL debut.

Rams coach Scott Linehan says Eddie Kennison will play Week 2 "in a role somewhat similar to what a No. 3 or a No. 4 receiver would have."

Kennison is on his last legs, but is well versed in coordinator Al Saunders' offense and can move up the depth chart quickly with only Dane Looker and Keenan Burton in his way to start. He's worth grabbing in deeper leagues.

Rams signed WR Eddie Kennison, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

This symbolizes the Rams' desperation and poor recent drafting. Kennison helps replace Drew Bennett, but didn't they draft two receivers this season to do that? The 35-year-old has reached the aging mediocrity stage of his career, so don't look for any fantasy value. Dane Looker and Keenan Burton will share snaps with him.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said sources indicated Eddie Kennison would visit the Rams this week.

Kennison would be a possible fill-in for injured WR Drew Bennett, but even if he signs he probably doesn't deserve a spot on your roster just yet, especially after the Rams' poor performance in the opener.

The player rep for free agent Eddie Kennison says his client is "very interested in being a Buc and has made that clear."

More competition at flanker in Tampa Bay wouldn't hurt. "He would love to play for Jon Gruden," the agent said. Kennison, coming off a season ruined by a torn hamstring, worked out for the Bucs in May and passed a physical. Perhaps he'll get a call from the team in training camp.

Free agent Eddie Kennison is reportedly on the Bucs' radar.

Kennison had a workout with Tampa on Monday and passed his physical. "I think he would really love to play for Coach Jon Gruden," said his agent. Kennison was cut by the Chiefs in February after an injury plagued 2007.

Eddie Kennison has no plans to retire.

"I’m still a young man," Kennison said. "I think you’re old when you’re 106." We'll agree with the second part. Kennison had five straight 800-yard seasons before his lost 2007, so a team like the 49ers may give him a shot.

Chiefs released WR Eddie Kennison.

The Chiefs are pursuing a youth movement, leaving little room for the 35-year-old. Kennison was slowed by a torn hamstring in 2007 and made just 13 catches. He nearly retired six years ago, and now may finally do it. It's anyone's guess who will start opposite Dwayne Bowe in 2008. Jeff Webb is in the in-house favorite, but the starter probably isn't on the roster yet.

The Kansas City Star believes Eddie Kennison has "probably" played his last game for the Chiefs.

Kennison's $2.5 million base salary is manageable for 2008, but he's due $1.5 million more in the form of a roster bonus. The Chiefs don't have any young backups who've clearly proven themselves ready for a starting role, so Kennison should have a chance to return if he's willing to take a pay cut.

Eddie Kennison (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 17, effectively ending his season.

Kennison suffered through a brutal year that saw him tear a hamstring, then hurt his ribs in Week 15. He played in six games and caught 13 passes for 101 yards. The Chiefs don't have enough WR depth to dump him outright, but may ask Kennison to re-work his $1.5 million offseason roster bonus.
