Impending free agent DE Vonnie Holliday is expected to retire after 15 NFL seasons.
At the insistence of his defensive linemates, Holliday was in the starting lineup in place of Calais Campbell for his final NFL game on Sunday. The 37-year-old would like to coach or consult for NFL teams in the future. He's expected to work with some of Arizona's young defensive linemen in the offseason. Mon, Dec 31, 2012 08:57:00 AM

Cardinals re-signed DE Vonnie Holliday to a one-year contract.

Holliday will serve as cheap depth and a plus in the leadership department for the Cards. He projects as a reserve rusher on passing downs behind starting ends Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett. Holliday, now 36, had no sacks in 16 games last season.

The Cardinals are expected to re-sign free agent DE Vonnie Holliday next week.

He'll add nickel-rushing depth behind Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett. The Cards waited until after June 1 to re-sign Holliday and Clark Haggans for salary cap reasons. Holliday should be at the club's June 12 minicamp.

The Cardinals are expected to re-sign free agents DE Vonnie Holiday and LB Clark Haggans at some point in the next month.

GM Rod Graves has already acknowledged that the veterans would likely be brought back. Holliday would play a reserve role behind Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett. Although Haggans was a 16-game starter a year ago, he's in line for a backup job with Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield taking over on the outside.

Cardinals DE Vonnie Holliday confirmed Monday that he will report to the team after his Sunday trade from Washington.

There were reports late Sunday that Holliday was considering not showing up, perhaps because he was considering retirement. He's having to move all the way across the country at age 35. Holliday told the Washington Times that he will be a Cardinal this season, likely playing inside in pass-rushing situations.

Cardinals acquired DE Vonnie Holliday from the Redskins in the Tim Hightower trade.

They also got a late pick back. Holliday is 35, but can still make an impact on passing downs. He'll work behind Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett, probably only seeing snaps in Arizona's sub-packages. Holliday wasn't going to make the Redskins after they used a second-round pick on Jarvis Jenkins and signed Stephen Bowen, so he was just a throw-in to the deal.

Redskins signed DE Vonnie Holliday, formerly of the Broncos.

Holliday is 34, but was one of the most productive per-snap 3-4 ends in the game last season, so he's certainly worth a look as a rotational body. He also has experience in the 3-4 as a five-technique with the Dolphins and Broncos. The more interesting aspect of this addition is that it could be a sign the 'Skins are still trying to trade Albert Haynesworth. SI's Ross Tucker is hearing that talks between the Vikings and Redskins are still alive.

The Seahawks hosted free agent DL Vonnie Holliday and WR Sean Morey this week.

Morey is a career special teamer. Holliday, 34, came off the bench in Denver last season. He could help as a rotational tackle in Seattle's 4-3.

Broncos signed DE Vonnie Holliday, formerly of the Dolphins.

Denver's pass rush has been surprisingly productive this preseason, and Holliday's addition can't hurt. He'll play in a rotation with Ryan McBean and Kenny Peterson, but Holliday has a few sacks left in his 33-year-old tank.

Vonnie Holliday will be added to the Broncos' roster Saturday if he passes his physical.

Holliday will play defensive end in the Broncos 3-4 defense and will compete with Ryan McBean to start. Holliday worked out with the team back in March during the free-agent period.

Free agent DE Vonnie Holliday is scheduled to visit with the Broncos this weekend.

Holliday has the size to play end in a 3-4, which the Broncos will need if reports of Le Kevin Smith's torn meniscus are true. Holliday could help early in the season as a rotational lineman.

The Patriots are hosting free agent DE Vonnie Holliday on Monday.

Holliday is the alternative if New England can't get Kevin Carter signed. The Lions' interest in Carter will probably spike after losing Jared DeVries.

The Dolphins reportedly haven't ruled out re-signing free agent Vonnie Holliday, despite releasing him in March.

Holliday drew some interest from Denver and Detroit immediately after he was cut, but it's been quiet since. Holliday, 33, would obviously be a short-term solution for anyone, but he's coming off a very productive season.

Free agent DL Vonnie Holliday is scheduled to visit the Broncos on Thursday and the Lions sometime early next week.

Denver is ready to challenge for the league's oldest defense. Holliday, 33, would at least be an immediate starter there, likely at defensive end opposite Darrell Reid. Holliday would play tackle for Jim Schwartz in Detroit.

Dolphins informed DE Vonnie Holliday of his release.

The move saves $5.3 million in cash and $2.8 million under the salary cap. Holliday apparently refused to take a pay cut. The 33-year-old should have another season or two left after a productive 2008 campaign, but the Fins are ready to move on with Phillip Merling and Kendall Langford as starters.
