The Boston Herald reports RG Brian Waters has planned "all along" to return for his 14th season in 2012.
Waters and the Pats have been tight-lipped about his return. The 35-year-old has been absent for offseason activities, but that's no different than any other year. He always spends the spring with his family, missing voluntary work. Waters had a fine bounce-back season in 2011 as the Patriots' most consistent lineman. New England will field one of the NFL's top O-Lines this year. May 24 - 3:14 PM

Patriots OC Josh McDaniels was noncommittal Friday on the return of RG Brian Waters.

Waters is believed to be considering retirement. "I don't have anything on that," said McDaniels, who spent a full press conference saying more or less nothing Friday at Patriots rookie minicamp. Waters didn't participate in the pre-draft conditioning program, and it's unclear whether he'll attend OTAs.

Patriots RG Brian Waters has been absent from this week's voluntary workouts.

Waters has one year left on his contract, but he's contemplating retirement this offseason. He's traditionally skipped voluntary workouts to spend time with his family, and a source confirms his absence has nothing to do with the retirement talk.

Patriots RG Brian Waters is considering retirement.

Waters says he'll take 2-3 weeks to decide his future. Signed on the eve of the regular season, Waters went on to start all 16 games. He graded out as the league's second best right guard by Pro Football Focus. He's currently set to make $1.5 million in what would be his age-35 season in 2012.

Brian Waters is now entrenched as the Patriots starting right guard.

Waters has familiarity with the Patriots scheme through Charlie Weis' offense last season, but he's had to work hard to make the switch from left guard. So far, the results have been positive. "I've really been impressed with not only the way he's performed," said coach Bill Belichick, "but just the way he’s gone about his job."

Patriots agreed to terms with OG Brian Waters, formerly of the Chiefs.

It's a great signing for the Patriots, who can plug Waters in as their Week 1 right guard if Dan Connolly's ankle injury proves to be slow healing. Waters has started at least 14 games every year since 2002, making five Pro Bowls in the process. It's possible he could play over Connolly even if the Pats' 2010 starter is healthy.

Free agent OG Brian Waters "talked contract" with the Patriots during a Saturday visit.

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reports Waters is a "leading candidate" to fill the Patriots' need for a reserve right guard. With Dan Connolly nursing an ankle injury and Rich Ohrnberger placed on injured reserve Saturday, Waters could see snaps in Week 1 if he signs.

Chiefs released LG Brian Waters.

It's a big surprise. Waters is a lifelong Chief and still an effective all-around guard at age 34. The Chiefs must be really confident in second-year heir apparent Jon Asamoah, who will take Waters' place in the starting lineup. Waters graded out as the 12th-best guard in football last season, per Pro Football Focus' ratings. He won't struggle to find a starting job as a free agent.

Pro Football Weekly has spoken with Chiefs sources that suggest LG Brian Waters "might be nearing the end of his Kansas City career."

Chiefs management is reportedly "very high" on promising reserve Jon Asamoah, a high second-round pick in 2010. Coach Todd Haley hinted in March that the Chiefs could be preparing for life without Waters, but he's still much more likely to play out his contract year in Kansas City.

Coach Todd Haley hinted that LG Brian Waters' effectiveness slipped last season at age 33.

Waters was a fine pass blocker last year, but his run blocking fell off. "Things start to happen to guys when you get to the age where he is," Haley said while hinting Waters will have to hold off competition. The Chiefs have Jon Asamoah waiting in the wings, though Waters likely has one more season as the starter.

Chiefs LG Brian Waters practiced Monday for the first time all training camp.

The veteran had been sidelined by an undisclosed leg injury. Waters didn't take all the first-team reps at left guard, but he should be all systems go before long. "I felt good today, but we’re being a little cautious," Waters said.

Chiefs LG Brian Waters reported on time for the start of OTAs Monday.

Waters skipped the early portion of this offseason and sat out most of 2009 pre-training camp work, so his appearance was a pleasant surprise. The 33-year-old will stay at left guard this season, rather than kick inside to center.

Brian Waters is not working out with the Chiefs again this offseason.

Waters insists his absence isn't due to unhappiness with the organization this year. "I haven't participated in the offseason program fully in five or six years," Waters said. "That's nothing new." Expect him to return for all mandatory practices.

Chiefs LG Brian Waters is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 14.

Waters remains Kansas City's best offensive lineman, so he's likely to get the bonus. The 2009 NFL Man of the Year, Waters is also scheduled for a $2.9 million salary in 2010. The four-time Pro Bowler turned 33 in February.

Chiefs LG Brian Waters (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 15.

Waters is the team's best lineman, so his in theory his absence would hurt Jamaal Charles' chances of a big day Sunday versus Cleveland. The Chiefs haven't been opening running lanes all year, however. Kansas City will likely turn to Andy Alleman at left guard against the Browns' No. 29 run defense.
