Johnnie Morton was knocked out 38 seconds into the first round of his Mixed Martial Arts debut bout with Bernard Ackah on Saturday night.

Former 49er and Kansas City Chief Johnnie Morton has launched a career in mixed martial arts.

Morton, 35, retired after he was released by the Niners in February of 2006. Maybe we'll see him fighting Jarrod Bunch in the UFC someday.

A natural split end, Johnnie Morton may challenge Brandon Lloyd for a starting job in San Francisco.

Arnaz Battle is currently in place as the starting flanker. While Morton would appear to have the experience necessary to start, it looks quite possible he'll open camp as the team's third receiver. Stay tuned.

49ers signed WR Johnnie Morton to a two-year contract.

It's a wonderful chance to play for Morton. We see him as a starter playing opposite Brandon Lloyd. The 49ers offense should struggle, so don't expect Morton to beat his 767 yard, 3.5 TD average from the last two seasons. He's a borderline draft pick in deeper leagues.

Chiefs released Johnnie Morton.

Morton was quite productive in his three seasons in Kansas City, but his foul attitude and big salary were a bad combination. It's huge news for Samie Parker, who will get a fair chance to start this season now. Look for the Saints to make a run at Morton. Of all the available veteran wideouts, Morton is probably the most attractive.
