Kansas City LB Tamba Hali played just 43 percent of the team's defensive snaps in Week 2.
This number was down from 58 percent in Week 1 as the Chiefs attempt to monitor Hali's workload after an offseason knee scope. "I think he’s back — I think it’s just a matter of monitoring the number of reps," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. Kansas City will need more from Hali in coming weeks with the Chiefs struggling in run defense through two weeks. The Chiefs D/ST is a middling fantasy option in Week 3 against the NY Jets. The Kansas City Chiefs allowed an uncharacteristic 232 rushing yards in Week 16, easily their highest total of the 2015 season.

The Week 16 Kansas City win over Cleveland was interesting as the Chiefs gave up the huge rushing effort but held the Browns to 13 points and 136 passing yards as QB Johnny Manziel completed only 40.6 percent of his pass attempts. The Chiefs D/ST has racked up 41 sacks on the season and will be a top-10 fantasy option in Week 17 against Oakland, who has been held under 300 total yards of offense in two of the last three weeks.

The Kansas City Chiefs are still holding out hope that OLB Tamba Hali (thumb) can play against Cleveland in Week 16.

Hali broke his thumb in Week 15 against Baltimore, but did not discover the break until Monday of this week. The Chiefs are still hoping the linebacker can play, however. "We’ll see day to day here how it goes," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "Because he had surgery doesn’t mean he’s out." Kansas City has a nice home matchup with Cleveland in Week 16, who managed just 230 total yards at Seattle last week. The Chiefs D/ST is a top-five fantasy option this week.

Baltimore QB Matt Schaub (chest, shoulder) is practicing this week ahead of a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs D/ST is a top-five fantasy option this week against Schaub, who has thrown four interceptions in two games including a pair of pix-sixes. The Kansas City defense has stacked up 10 interceptions over the last five weeks and looks ready to add to that total at Baltimore on Sunday.

The Kansas City defense has recorded nine interceptions over the last five weeks, the best mark among NFL teams during that stretch.

The Chiefs allowed 14.5 points per game over that span as well, while going 4-0. Week 14 brings a matchup with the San Diego Chargers, who Kansas City held to only a field goal in Week 11. The Chargers have failed to score a touchdown in two of their last three games, making the Chiefs D/ST a solid top-10 fantasy option this week.

Kansas City OLB Justin Houston is dealing with a hyperextended left knee and may miss Week 13.

"With the hyperextended knee, you get some soft tissue damage in the back of your knee, and some of the ligaments and tendons and soft tissue get stretched out. That’s what he’s dealing with right now, he’s in the middle of the rehab process," said Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder. The Chiefs travel to Oakland in Week 13, and will start OLB Dee Ford if Houston's knee is not ready. The Chiefs D/ST is a back-end top-10 fantasy option this week.

The Kansas City defense has been outstanding in recent weeks, allowing just 9.8 points per game over their last four games, all wins.

The Chiefs have also held opposing teams to under 200 passing yards in those four games in what has been a drastic turnaround after allowing 31.3 points per game in 2015's first four contests. A Week 12 home date with Buffalo won't do much to derail this defense and the Chiefs D/ST can be considered a top-tier Week 12 fantasy option.

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to San Diego in Week 11 to face the NFL's leading passing attack.

The Chargers average a healthy 328.6 passing yards per game, led by quarterback Philip Rivers. Kansas City's defense has improved during a recent three-game winning streak, allowing just 12 points per game over that span, so it will be interesting to see how this unit handles the San Diego passing offense. Despite the recent spike in production, the Chiefs D/ST won't be a recommended fantasy option on the road in Week 11.

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Denver to face the Broncos in Week 10 without DE Allen Bailey (calf).

Bailey, who has 4.5 sacks in 2015, missed practice on Thursday and Friday before being ruled out for Week 10. The Chiefs will now have an even tougher time applying pressure to Peyton Manning in Week 10, who has been sacked just 13 times this season. Kansas City won't be on the fantasy radar in Week 10 on the road against Denver.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face top-10 NFL offenses in four of six games after their Week 9 bye.

The Chiefs will face the San Diego Chargers and Philip Rivers, the NFL's leading passer, twice in that six-game span. Four of those games will also be played away from Arrowhead Stadium, so fantasy owners should feel free to cut the Chiefs D/ST loose during the bye week.

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to London in Week 8 to take on the Detroit Lions, who lead the NFL in turnovers.

The Detroit offense has given the ball away 18 times in seven games, including nine interceptions from quarterback Matthew Stafford. The Lions will be working under a new offensive coordinator this week but will still be an intriguing target for fantasy owners looking to stream the Chiefs D/ST against this turnover-prone group.

The Kansas City Chiefs could be facing Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Week 7 as he works his way back from a knee injury.

Roethlisberger was limited in practice on Wednesday and his Week 7 status is still in question at the moment. The starting quarterback for the Steelers will dictate whether the struggling Chiefs defense is a bottom or mid-tier option among fantasy defenses this week. Kansas City would obviously benefit from facing Jones instead of Roethlisberger, as the Pittsburgh offense is far more dynamic under Big Ben.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 28th among NFL teams in pass defense, giving up 295.5 passing yards per game this season.

The Chiefs have faced three solid quarterbacks since Week 1 in Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and the surging Andy Dalton, but their secondary has not had any success. Week 5 brings a matchup with Chicago, who hasn't been an offensive juggernaut this season but did rack up 371 total yards with Jay Cutler back under center in Week 4. Secondary issues in addition to the struggles Kansas City has had recording sacks and turnovers will leave the Chiefs D/ST as a bottom tier Week 5 fantasy option.

The Cincinnati Enquirer listed Kansas City OLB Justin Houston vs Cincinnati T Andre Smith as the key matchup for Week 4.

The Chiefs will travel to Cincinnati on a short week after losing to Green Bay on Monday night. The pass rushing ability of Houston will be important for Kansas City, as the Bengals have allowed just two sacks of Andy Dalton so far this season. Houston has three sacks of his own early in 2015 and the All-Pro will look to continue his strong start on Sunday. The Chiefs D/ST will not be a startable group on the road this week at Cincinnati.

The Kansas City Star listed Chiefs DT Jaye Howard as a "stand out" so far in 2015.

Howard is in a contract year and is performing well at the right time. The fourth-year defensive lineman has 12 tackles and one sack through two games and has shown improvement since the end of the 2014 season. Kansas City DC Bob Sutton said of Howard, "He knows how to use his hands, he’s learning how to get off blocks and not just rely on that first-step quickness." Howard's disruptive ways have contributed to the Chiefs allowing just 79.5 rushing yards per game this season. The Chiefs D/ST is a solid group, but won't be a startable fantasy option on Monday night at Green Bay.
