Free agent LB Kawika Mitchell will work out for the Giants this week.
The injury-plagued 31-year-old played just one game with the Saints last season after beginning the year on Buffalo's I.R. list. He does have experience with Perry Fewell's defense with the Bills. Mitchell could compete with rookie Greg Jones for the starting MLB job if signed. Keith Bulluck is on speed dial as well. Tue, Sep 6, 2011 05:24:00 PM

Saints signed LB Kawika Mitchell.

Mitchell began the year on the Bills' injury list but was eventually released after negotiating an injury settlement. The veteran will give the Saints some nice depth but won't be counted on to make much of an impact.

Bills released LB Kawika Mitchell with an injury settlement.

The move comes at Mitchell's request, ostensibly because he wants to explore opportunities to play elsewhere. A poor fit in George Edwards 3-4 defense, Mitchell had lost his starting job to Andra Davis entering the season. Though the declining veteran could help a 4-3 team later in the season, he's a poor bet to remain healthy.

Veteran ILB Kawika Mitchell, on injured reserve with a Lisfranc sprain, has asked the Bills for his release.

The team is expected to release him with an injury settlement perhaps as soon as Friday. Mitchell's request suggests that he's getting close to a full recovery and that he wants an opportunity to play elsewhere. Mitchell, turning 31 next week, was slated for a backup role this year.

Bills placed ILB Kawika Mitchell on injured reserve on injured reserve with a Lisfranc sprain, ending his season.

Mitchell was sent for tests on Thursday after injuring his foot in Wednesday's practice. The results obviously showed a multi-week injury. Mitchell, now 30, hasn't been able to stay healthy since signing a five-year, $17.5 million contract in 2008. He's a poor bet to return at nearly $3 million in 2011.

Bills ILB Kawika Mitchell is not expected to play this week after sustaining a foot injury in Wednesday's practice.

While missing Thursday's practice, Mitchell was sent for further testing on the foot. The 30-year-old was only expected to be a situational player behind veteran Andra Davis this year. OLB Reggie Torbor is also in danger of missing Sunday's game after being held out Thursday with a chest injury.

Bills LB Kawika Mitchell (knee/quad surgery) participated in four of five minicamp practices last week.

It's important that Mitchell is back on the field already because he's going to have to adjust to playing inside linebacker in the Bills' new 3-4 scheme. He'll have to prove his health while battling for snaps with Andra Davis.

Kawika Mitchell confirmed that he is ticketed for inside linebacker in the Bills' new 3-4 defense.

He isn't a pass rusher, so this was obvious enough. Mitchell will likely battle Andra Davis to be the Ted 'backer to Paul Posluszny's Mike. Posluszny shouldn't have trouble leading the team in tackles, assuming good health.

Bills LB Kawika Mitchell (quad/knee) expects to be ready to resume football-related activities sometime in May.

Mitchell isn't even sure he'll be part of new coach Chan Gailey's plans, but we expect him to be one of the inside linebackers in the Bills' new 3-4 scheme. He's set to earn a reasonable $2.7 million in 2010.

Bills LB Kawika Mitchell revealed that he underwent surgery to re-attach his quadriceps muscle to his kneecap after landing on injured reserve in October.

It was initially reported as a knee injury, likely because the quadriceps muscle was torn completely away from his knee cap. "It's a very unusual injury," he said, "but structurally everything in my knee is fine." Mitchell, expected to move inside in the team's new 3-4 defense, is in danger of missing OTAs in May.

Kawika Mitchell is expected to move inside next to Paul Posluszny in the Bills' new "3-4" hybrid defense.

Though the move to a "3-4" has been panned due to the Bills' lack of personnel, we think it's perfect timing. Mitchell and Pos will flourish inside while Aaron Maybin and Aaron Schobel form a promising edge-rushing tandem. Mitchell's IDP value gets a nice boost with the move.

Bills LB Kawika Mitchell revealed that his October knee surgery was not of the ACL variety.

It's still not known exactly what type of surgery Mitchell did undergo. He expects to be completely recovered in a couple of months, indicating that making the March conditioning program will not be an issue.

Bills placed LB Kawika Mitchell (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The Bills haven't released details on the injury to Mitchell's right knee, but we're guessing it's a torn ACL. Mitchell is signed through 2012, and Buffalo has zero quality depth behind him.

Bills LBs Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs are done for the season after suffering knee injuries in Week 5 that will require surgery.

Mitchell was filling in for usual starting MLB Paul Posluszny (broken arm), who isn't due back for two more weeks. The losses are massive for Buffalo, which annually is among the league's most injured teams. It's probably time they start searching for upgrades on the strength and conditioning staff. Smallish OLB Keith Ellison will likely start in the middle in Week 6.

Bills coach Dick Jauron is not optimistic about the knee injuries to MLBs Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs, both of whom were carted off Sunday.

Both players could be lost for the season. Jon Corto, a career special teamer, entered at outside linebacker late in the game, forcing Keith Ellison into the middle. The Bills hope to have Paul Posluszny (arm) back in two weeks.
