Browns impending free agent SLB Scott Fujita says he's still dealing with issues in his neck, but he wasn't ready to say he's retiring.

"I'm not rushing into anything, but I think we all know I've had one neck surgery [13 years ago] and I'm potentially facing another one if things don't calm down in the next year or so," Fujita said. "I've been through so much in the last year, year and a half, I think I just need to catch my breath and take some time and figure out the next step." Turning 34 in April, Fujita's career is in doubt.

Browns placed SLB Scott Fujita (neck) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Fujita's career is in doubt. He sustained a "shoulder" injury against the Giants in Week 5, but it was later revealed that he's having neck issues. Testing showed he suffered "several stingers" in Week 6, and there is nerve and disk damage in his neck. Fujita's 11th NFL season ends with 14 tackles and one sack in four games. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in the spring.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Monday Night Countdown that the Browns are concerned SLB Scott Fujita suffered a career-ending neck injury in Week 5 against the Giants.

Mort broke the news on T.V. and offered few details, but Fujita's loss would be another staggering blow to Cleveland's already run-soft defense. An 11-year veteran, Fujita missed Week 6 with what was listed as a "shoulder" injury. The Browns now fear his neck is affected. With Fujita inactive against the Bengals, the Browns started rookie James-Michael Johnson on the strong side.

Fujita is appealing his suspension and eligible to play this week, but hasn't practiced since Monday and is shaping up as a gameday decision. If Fujita is ruled out, WLB Craig Robertson or James-Michael Johnson will start in his place.

Browns LB Scott Fujita will meet with commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday.

It was originally reported that Fujita would speak with Goodell in a video conference last Tuesday, but the league opted not to proceed and requested a face-to-face meeting. Fujita is the only player from the Saints' bounty scandal that hasn't met with the NFL since an appeals panel overturned their suspensions.

Updating a previous item, Browns SLB Scott Fujita (leg) will not play on Sunday because he hasn't been removed from the Roster Exempt list, according to Adam Caplan.

This situation has gotten much more attention than one would expect. Rookie L.J. Fort will start on the strong side for Cleveland, while Kaluka Maiava plays weak-side 'backer. Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is in position to shred this defense in Week 1.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports that Browns SLB Scott Fujita (leg) is "highly unlikely" to play on Sunday.

Breer stressed the word "highly" in his report on NFL Network's First On the Field morning show. He also said that head coach Pat Shurmur has left the door slightly cracked for the possibility that Fujita could suit up, but it's been Shurmur's policy that "if you don't practice, you don't play." The linebacker wasn't allowed to practice with the team this week while he was serving his Bounty Gate suspension. But, that suspension has since been overturned. Rookie L.J. Fort is expected to play in Fujita's absence.

Fujita suffered the injury in the August 10 preseason opener, and has practiced sparingly since. Of course, Fujita had his suspension overturned on Friday, but it still looks like rookie L.J. Fort will start in his place. Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is poised for a monster game.

Suspended SLB Scott Fujita has been reinstated to the Browns' active roster following Friday's appeals ruling in the Bounty case, and will be eligible to play against the Eagles on Sunday.

It's a huge boost for a Browns defense dealing with a rash of injuries at linebacker, but Fujita's snaps figure to be limited after he appeared in just one preseason game. It could also prove to be a pyrrhic victory for the Browns, as Fujita could be lost for more important games later in the season if his suspension ends up being upheld by the commissioner.

"We’re still waiting on a decision," Fujita said. "But I’m optimistic and preparing as if I’ll be playing in the first game." We don't see it, but stranger things have happened. Fujita was suspended for his role in the Saints' Bounty Scandal. He denies ever contributing money to Gregg Williams' performance pool.

Fujita denies allegations that he contributed money to a performance pool. He reserves the right to appeal his suspension pending the outcome of NFLPA grievances. If the suspension is upheld, Chris Gocong could see time at SAM. The Browns also drafted James-Michael Johnson and Emmanuel Acho as linebacker depth.

The NFL's investigation concluded that Fujita pledged a "significant" amount of money in the bounty/performance pool. When Fujita missed time last year, Chris Gocong slid over to the strong side with Kaluka Maiava entering on the weak side. All four players suspended are expected to appeal. "Get ready for a massive multiple legal battle over this on several fronts," a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fujita was a member of the Saints from 2006-2009. He is presumably facing a suspension, illustrating how the league's investigation of the Saints will have ramifications far beyond New Orleans. Fujita started 10 games for the Browns last season before being sent to injured reserve with a hand injury in November, notching 50 tackles.

Browns placed SLB Scott Fujita (hand surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Fujita broke his hand in two places late in last week's loss to the Bengals. Signed through 2012 at $3.65 million, Fujita should return in the same role as one of Cleveland's top defenders. He turns 33 in the offseason, so the Browns may look to draft his eventual successor.
