Jaguars re-signed C Brad Meester to a one-year contract.
Meester has been the Jaguars' center since 2000, missing just 15 games in 13 years, and none since 2008. His play has slipped considerably in recent seasons, however. The Jags could be on the lookout for his heir apparent in the middle rounds of the draft. Mar 19 - 2:34 PM

Free agent C Brad Meester will reportedly retire if the Jags' "price isn't right."

Meester will turn 36 in March and is trying to leverage his way into a final payday on a one-year deal. The coaching staff reportedly wants him back "from a stability and leadership standpoint." Meester has started 193 games for the Jags over his 13 NFL seasons.

The Jaguars are "still in discussions" with free agent C Brad Meester.

Meester is on the record as hoping to return for a 14th NFL season, but it's unclear if he'd consider playing anywhere other than Jacksonville. One of the best players in Jaguars history, Meester is still durable, but his play has slipped considerably. It's not a guarantee he'll be back.

Jaguars C Brad Meester says he is interested in playing a 13th season in 2013.

Meester's contract is up after the year, and he turns 36 in March. "I feel as good as I have in quite a while," he insisted. "I would love to be back." Meester has spent his entire career with the Jaguars, playing mostly center and some guard. Unfortunately, his on-field play suggests he has little left.

Jaguars C Brad Meester is not expected to face competition for his starting job this season.

Meester bounced back from a disastrous 2009 season to rank fifth in Pro Football Focus' center ratings last year. The Jags are high on third-rounder Will Rackley, who will be tried at center, but Meester will have the job for at least one more season.

The Florida Times Union suggests that C Brad Meester may retire after the 2011 NFL season.

Meester is entering his 12th year, and will be 35 after the season. Coaches are confident that he's still maxing out his talent, but he's unlikely to play much longer. Meester is signed through 2012. He'll make $1.95 million in 2011.

Brad Meester appears to have held off competition for the Jags' starting center job.

It's not the best news for Maurice Jones-Drew, as Meester was one of the worst run-blocking centers in the league last year. Uche Nwaneri is locked into one starting guard spot with Justin Smiley, Kynan Forney, and Vince Manuwai competing for the other.

Jaguars C Brad Meester is in danger of losing his roster spot this offseason.

Jacksonville's front five at post-draft minicamp looked like this: LG Kynan Forney, C Uche Nwaneri, RG Vince Manuwai, with Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton at the tackles. The longest tenured Jaguar, Meester turned 33 this offseason and was among the NFL's poorest run-blocking centers in 2009.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports that the Jaguars agreed to terms with C Brad Meester on a four-year, $10 million contract.

Meester is a career Jag, but it's surprising they brought him back. The 32-year-old has torn his biceps twice in the past three seasons and broke his ankle in 2007. He's only played in 21 of 32 possible games over the last two years.

Jags C Brad Meester returned to full practice Thursday for the first time since early August biceps surgery.

Coach Jack Del Rio doesn't think "it makes sense" for Meester to return to game action this week, so he'll aim for a post-bye week return of Week 8 versus the Browns. Jacksonville's running game could improve greatly once Meester and Chris Naeole get healthy.

Jaguars C Brad Meester is expected to be out eight to ten weeks after undergoing biceps surgery on Friday.

"Week four or week five, certainly for the bye week," coach Jack Del Rio said. The Jags' bye is in Week 6. Meester's absence shouldn't have a big impact.

Jaguars C Brad Meester underwent biceps surgery on Friday.

Meester's injury was originally reported as a strain, but the surgery indicates his biceps may have been torn. He seems likely to miss some regular season time. The Jags have a strong and proven backup in Dennis Norman.

Jaguars C Brad Meester is in danger of missing Week 1 due to a strained biceps muscle.

Jacksonville has survived Meester getting hurt before (he missed the first five weeks in 2007), so this isn't a huge blow. Dennis Norman would step in.

Jaguars C Brad Meester is expected to return to the lineup Sunday.

Meester missed the first five weeks of the season after cracking a bone in his ankle during the preseason. It's uncertain whether he'll resume starting.

Jaguars C Brad Meester cracked a bone in his ankle on Monday night.

Meester will undergo surgery and is expected to be sidelined from 8-10 weeks. Dennis Norman, who has five career starts, will probably replace him. This can only hurt Byron Leftwich's chances of staying healthy this year.
