Broncos released ILB Akin Ayodele.

Ayodele had been listed as the first-team inside linebacker next to D.J. Williams after signing in late April. If he couldn't last with the linebacker-needy Broncos, there's not going to be too many job offers on the open market. Joe Mays becomes the top candidate to step into the starting lineup, though Mario Haggan could be pushed back inside as well.

Broncos agreed to terms with ILB Akin Ayodele.

The Broncos failed to pick up an inside linebacker in the draft, so they're papering over the hole next to D.J. Williams. Stretched as a starter at this point in his career, Ayodele could battle Mario Haggan for starting snaps. We can't get excited about either option, but at least the Broncos have a stout front three to help stop the run this year.

The Detroit News suggests free agent LB Akin Ayodele as a possible replacement for Ernie Sims in Detroit.

Ayodele, 30, did visit the Lions in March, though his only experience in a 4-3 defense like Detroit's has come at strong-side linebacker. The Lions no longer appear to be considering cutting SLB Julian Peterson. The team could use an explosive, instinctive play-maker to fill Sims' shoes on the weak side.

Free agent LB Akin Ayodele will visit with the Lions on Thursday night and into Friday.

The Niners let Ayodele leave the Bay Area without a contract after offering him only a clear-cut backup role. He wouldn't start in Detroit, either, unless the Lions are quietly planning to cut ties with Julian Peterson's big salary.

The 49ers have reportedly "made it clear" to free agent ILB Akin Ayodele that he would have to accept a backup role if signed.

Patrick Willis' job was obviously in no danger, but it was thought that Ayodele could push Takeo Spikes at "Ted" linebacker. Beat writer Matt Maiocco does not expect a deal to happen Tuesday.

He could provide depth at inside linebacker, or perhaps challenge Takeo Spikes for his starting job. In a 3-4 system, Aydele is a "Ted" linebacker.

Dolphins released ILB Akin Ayodele.

The move is a likely prelude to a Karlos Dansby signing. Ayodele had just 71 tackles in 16 games last year and didn't make any big plays. The 30-year-old has started in both 3-4 and 4-3 systems, and may resurface as a backup.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland acknowledged Thursday that inside linebacker is an area of need this offseason.

"We have to get more production from the inside linebacker position," Ireland said. "They know that, we know that, you guys know that." The Dolphins are expected to be among the most aggressive pursuers of Karlos Dansby in free agency. If Dansby's price tag is too high, Alabama's Rolando McClain could be an option in the draft.

Dolphins starting ILB Akin Ayodele (back) missed Saturday's practice and is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Colts.

Ayodele practiced on Thursday and Friday, so this doesn't sound like a big deal. If he can't go, Reggie Torbor would likely get the start.

Dolphins ILB Akin Ayodele accused the Patriots of taking "malicious" cheap shots after the whistle in their game Sunday.

"Usually this only happens when you play the Patriots," he said, referencing a previous matchup when he was on the Cowboys. He also said the officials did a poor job controlling the action after the whistle.

Akin Ayodele and Channing Crowder are fully expected to open the season as the Dolphins' starting inside linebackers.

Reggie Torbor is the third option. The Dolphins figure to be on defense quite a bit this season, so Crowder and Ayodele should see plenty of tackle chances.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano indicated that Akin Ayodele could end up starting at either inside linebacker spot.

Channing Crowder and Ayodele were thought to be in direct competition to start next to Reggie Torbor, but that apparently isn't the case. The best two inside 'backers will play. Either Ayodele or Crowder is likely to end up wearing the defensive headset. That will be a situation to watch for IDP purposes.

Dolphins acquired inside linebacker Akin Ayodele as part of a trade that sent a fourth-round pick to Dallas.

Ayodele, 28, isn't much of a playmaker but is stout at 6'2/250. He produced big numbers for Bill Parcells in Dallas and will probably start in Miami. He'll likely compete with Channing Crowder at weak inside linebacker with Reggie Torber also in the mix for snaps. This will be an IDP situation to keep track of.
