Falcons released OG Vince Manuwai.
Manuwai must have been in exceptionally poor shape, as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution deemed him a "strong darkhorse" for the Falcons' starting right guard job in June. Cut by the Jaguars after reporting to camp overweight and injured in 2011, Manuwai spent the year out of football. Now 32, getting cut at this stage of the game suggests Manuwai doesn't have any football left. Sat, Jul 28, 2012 03:45:00 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution considers Vince Manuwai a "strong darkhorse" for the Falcons' right guard job.

Cut by the Jaguars last summer after reporting to camp overweight and injured, Manuwai sat out for all of 2011, but has started 105 games since 2003. He'll be competing with holdovers Garrett Reynolds and Joe Hawley, and draft pick Peter Konz. Manuwai's familiarity with coach Dirk Koetter should give him a leg up.

Falcons signed OG Vince Manuwai, formerly of the Jaguars.

Manuwai, 32, spent all of last season out of football after reporting to camp overweight and injured. New Atlanta OC Dirk Koetter knows him well from Jacksonville. Manuwai was a mauling run blocker in his prime, going 6-foot-2 and 333 pounds. If healthy, in shape, and focused, he could be a bargain signing for a Falcons team that badly needs an upgrade at right guard.

Jaguars released OG Vince Manuwai.

Manuwai pulled a Max Starks, arriving to camp overweight and injured. He has a torn tendon in his left foot, and can't get himself in shape because he can't run. Manuwai follows Justin Smiley out the door, opening left guard for new signee Jason Spitz. The Jags are also high on third-rounder Will Rackley, who will provide depth. Manuwai is still a powerful run blocker, but won't attract much interest on the open market because of his fitness.

Out of shape Jaguars LG Vince Manuwai will start training camp on the PUP list.

News of offensive linemen like Manuwai and Max Starks reporting overweight and out of shape highlight the impressive feat of the Patriots entire roster passing physicals. Manuwai will work himself into shape during camp and should be fine for Week 1.

Jaguars LG Vince Manuwai was spotted at Wednesday's practice wearing a protective boot on his right foot.

It's not clear what injury he's dealing with, and there's been no indication that he might miss Week 15. It's certainly worth keeping an eye on, though, as Manuwai has been arguably the Jags' best run blocker this season.

Maurice Jones-Drew attributed his recent rushing surge to the return to form of LG Vince Manuwai.

No one is averaging more rushing yards per game in the last four weeks. A brawling mauler, the 6'2/330-pound Manuwai has combined with RG Uche Nwaneri (6'3/330) to give Jacksonville one of the most powerful guard duos in football. Safely expect Jones-Drew to finish as a top-eight fantasy back.

Vince Manuwai has replaced Justin Smiley as the Jaguars' starting left guard the past three games.

Smiley has been nursing a foot injury, and coach Jack Del Rio believes he's hurt worse than he's admitting. The Jags are coming off their best offensive performance of the season with Manuwai starting, so he may just keep the job.

Jaguars RG Vince Manuwai may be on the roster bubble after the team acquired Justin Smiley this week.

Jack Del Rio conceded that Manuwai didn't meet expectations last season, when he was coming off a torn ACL. Manuwai, though, stayed highly effective as a run blocker, and it's not surprising that he struggled in pass pro (five sacks allowed) on a reconstructed knee. He's healthy this year, and a strong bet to start at right guard. Brad Meester should be more fearful.

Jaguars LG Vince Manuwai returned to practice Monday for the first time since tearing his ACL last September.

Manuwai's injury started the downfall of Jacksonville's run blocking unit last year. Probably the team's best pure run blocker, a healthy Manuwai should make a big difference for Maurice Jones-Drew this season.

Vince Manuwai (ACL surgery) is the only Jags player not medically cleared for practice.

Manuwai underwent the surgery eight months ago but has been restricted to riding a stationary bike while the team practices. He's expected to be ready for training camp in late July.

Jaguars LG Vince Manuwai (ACL surgery) says he will be ready for training camp.

He's already six months removed from the ACL tear and this was his first surgery since high school, so we can probably expect him to rebound strong. A nasty run blocker when healthy, his return is big for Maurice Jones-Drew.

Coach Jack Del Rio revealed Monday that LG Vince Manuwai tore his ACL in the Jaguars' opener. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Manuwai is a mauling run blocker, so this isn't good news for Fred Taylor or Maurice Jones-Drew on inside runs. Already down C Brad Meester, Jacksonville is now thinning badly at guard with Maurice Williams also hurt. Four of the Jags' top six offensive linemen are on the shelf.

LG Vince Manuwai left Sunday's season opener in the third quarter with a sprained right knee.

Manuwai said he's hoping it's an MCL sprain. He'll undergo an MRI on Monday. "If it’s the MCL, no problem," he said. "We’ll see what the MRI says, but that’s what I’m hoping right now. Maybe I miss a little time, but I can probably just brace that up and play."

Jaguars signed G Vince Manuwai to a long-term extension.

Various reports had the deal a few days ago, but Manuwai signed the paperwork today. In Manuwai and Chris Naeole, Jacksonville has two of the best guards in football. Their running game should remain strong because of it.
