Raiders released DT John Henderson and RG Cooper Carlisle.
Henderson was released with a failed physical designation. He missed the final three games of the 2011 season with a knee injury. Henderson ended up only starting five games in two years after originally signing with the Raiders in June 2010, but was still an elite run stuffer as a part-time player in 2011. He'll draw interest on the open market. Wed, Mar 14, 2012 02:06:00 PM

Raiders DT John Henderson (knee) did not finish the Raiders' Week 13 game against the Dolphins.

Henderson had a season-high seven tackles and a quarterback hit on Sunday, and with DT Richard Seymour potentially facing a suspension the D-Line could get thin. For a unit giving up the most yards per carry to opposing rushers in the league, things could get ugly quick with a few bad breaks.

Raiders agreed to terms with DT John Henderson on a two-year, $8 million contract.

Owner Al Davis is reportedly wielding more control over his franchise right now than at any time in the recent past, and he's spending money like a dozen drunken sailors on shore leave. Big John emerged as the Raiders' best pure run stopper last season, but it's yet another questionable contract for Oakland. Henderson earned just $1 million last season while missing seven games.

Raiders DT John Henderson is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his foot.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Vittorio Tafur puts a "2-5 week" timetable on Henderson's recovery. The Raiders are getting mauled in the defensive trenches, and Big John's loss won't help. He's their top pure run stopper.

Raiders coach Tom Cable said DT John Henderson will undergo more tests on his injured foot "to see if we can really figure out what's going on with this."

Henderson has missed the last two games after saying that he wouldn't miss a single one. "He was getting better every day, and then Saturday and Sunday it got really sore doing nothing," Cable said. Henderson is only a situational run stuffer at this point in his career.

John Henderson is expected to be just the Raiders' No. 4 defensive tackle this season.

Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly are the starters, and undrafted gem Desmond Bryant is No. 3. Henderson can still play the run, but he doesn't have a prayer rushing the quarterback. He was a fine situational addition.

The Jaguars reportedly turned down a fifth-round pick in exchange for DL John Henderson in April.

The Jags offered Henderson to the Raiders for a fourth-rounder, and Oakland countered with a fifth. Considering the outrageous going rate for fifth-round picks during draft time, Jags GM Gene Smith obviously overplayed his hand with Henderson.

Raiders signed DT John Henderson to a one-year contract.

In a bit of shocking news, the Raiders have actually made a solid personnel move. Henderson's pass rushing skills are declining but he can still stuff the run at age 31. He's been a 4-3 lineman for his entire career and there's little risk here thanks to the one-year deal. He could also play some end in a 3-4 if the Raiders end up shifting that way.

Free agent DL John Henderson is expected to decide between several suitors on Friday.

Perhaps the best defensive player available on the open market, Henderson has been taking his time in narrowing his list of possible fits. The 31-year-old drew initial interest from the Chiefs, Giants, Falcons, and Browns.

The Eagles have not had any contact with free agent John Henderson, an NFL source tells CSNPhilly.com.

The Eagles are in good shape at defensive end now, but are thin in terms of interior pass rush after letting Darren Howard go. They are putting a lot of faith in Trevor Laws' development. Henderson may fit better as an end with a team that runs the 3-4 at this point in his career.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff ruled out the possibility of the team signing free agent John Henderson on Wednesday.

Dimitroff said so on Sirius Radio. "We feel like we have a young and evolving defensive line," the general manager said of the 31-year-old Henderson. "Where we are right now, I would say that we will not go in that direction."

The Kansas City Star confirms that free agent John Henderson will not visit the Chiefs on Wednesday.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora was first to report on the visit's apparent cancellation. Henderson has drawn interest from the Giants, Falcons, and Browns. He does have a visit setup with the G-Men, but the date is unknown.

According to NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora, free agent DL John Henderson does not have a visit lined up with the Chiefs on Wednesday.

The Chiefs have a definite need at nose tackle, but Henderson would be more suited to end in a 3-4 scheme. He's expected to visit with the Giants later this week, and the Falcons and Browns have also shown interest.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Giants have scheduled a visit for free agent DL John Henderson.

The meeting will presumably take place after Henderson visits the Chiefs on Wednesday. Should Henderson sign with the Giants, Rocky Bernard would surely be released. Bernard might be cut even if Henderson doesn't sign.

Updating a previous item, free agent DL John Henderson's visit with the Chiefs will take place on Wednesday.

A previous report had it slated for Tuesday. Beat writer Kent Babb tweeted earlier in the day that Henderson would play nose tackle in Kansas City, but we doubt that's the case. The 6'7/335-pounder is an end in a 3-4 scheme. The Chiefs would still have a need on the nose if they signed Big John.
