RB LaBrandon Toefield, S Adam Archuleta and RB Chris Perry were among the former NFL players taken in Thursday night's NFL draft.
Special teams ace Gary Stills, QB Brooks Bollinger, S Mike Doss, TE Jermaine Wiggins and WR Marcus Fitzgerald (Larry's brother) were also selected. Odds are these guys weren't going to get NFL jobs anyway, so at least they're working. Fri, Jun 19, 2009 10:18:00 AM

Panthers released RBs LaBrandon Toefield and DeCori Birmingham and FB Troy Fleming.

The Energizer bunny, Nick Goings, stays on as the team's No. 3 running back. Toefield's short-yardage window of opportunity in Carolina closed as soon as the team selected Jonathan Stewart in the draft.

LaBrandon Toefield's hold on a roster spot in Carolina is tenuous.

He reportedly hasn't stood out to this point, and if Carolina keeps trusty Nick Goings again, Toefield could be a goner. Goings is a more versatile option.

LaBrandon Toefield's one-year contract with Carolina is worth $640,000.

He won't be guaranteed a roster spot. It appears the Panthers will continue to address the running back position. Toefield will make less than he did as a third-stringer in Jacksonville last year, when he played in two games.

Panthers signed RB LaBrandon Toefield to a one-year contract.

If this is the best they can do, DeAngelo Williams will have an easy road to 300+ touches. Toefield, 27, was rarely used in Jacksonville and hasn't averaged over 4.0 YPC in his career. At 5'11/232, he has some short-yardage ability, but won't be a big threat to Williams' carries otherwise. We suspect Carolina will draft another back, though it probably won't happen early.

Jaguars RB LaBrandon Toefield (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday.

An ineffective Toefield had seven carries in Week 17 with Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew inactive. He'll go back to a reserve role in the playoffs.

LaBrandon Toefield rushed seven times for 15 yards and added four yards on one reception.

Well, they tried to feature him early, but he was largely ineffective while Greg Jones did more with his carries. As a free agent, Toefield will try to find a better opportunity elsewhere this off-season.

LaBrandon Toefield appears likely to be the Jaguars' feature back for most of Sunday's game against the Texans.

Maurice Jones-Drew might start the game, then come out after a possession or two. Toefield isn't very explosive, but has been a good short-yardage runner in the past. He is in a contract year and will be motivated for a strong finish after being inactive nearly all season.

LaBrandon Toefield rushed six times for 12 yards and a TD in Week 8.

Toefield hadn't touched the ball to this point in the season. He can be a capable short-yardage back, but is no threat to Fred Taylor or Maurice Jones-Drew's spots on the depth chart.

The Jaguars are reportedly seeking a third-round pick in exchange for third-string tailback LaBrandon Toefield.

The Bucs reportedly offered a fifth-round pick for Toefield and were turned down. The trade deadline is on Tuesday, but Jacksonville may be wary of lowering its asking price for Toefield with Fred Taylor (groin) nicked up.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Bucs might be interested in LaBrandon Toefield.

Tampa Bay apparently found the asking price for Mewelde Moore too high, so they're looking at other options to replace Cadillac Williams and Michael Pittman. For now, Earnest Graham is the new starter.

LaBrandon Toefield survived Jacksonville's cuts on Saturday.

The trade of Alvin Pearman to the Seahawks opened up a spot for Toefield, who won't see much playing time behind Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew.

The Jaguars may showcase LaBrandon Toefield for a trade this preseason.

Toefield, who re-signed for one year in March, has reportedly enjoyed a solid camp but remains fourth on the depth chart at best in Jacksonville. If he stays with the Jags, Toefield won't get much playing time this season. He could garner interest from a team that incurs an injury or two at running back.
Tue, Aug 7, 2007 11:53:00 AM

Jaguars re-signed RB LaBrandon Toefield to a one-year, $800,000 contract.

Toefield received mild interest as an unrestricted free agent. The fourth-stringer carried just ten times for 22 yards this past season.

LaBrandon Toefield visited with the Dolphins Wednesday.

With Sammy Morris and Travis Minor gone, Miami could use another running back, even if Ricky Williams returns to the team. S Cameron Worrell (Chicago) also visited Miami Wednesday.
