The Giants have not reached out to free agent S Deon Grant in recent weeks.

Grant was told earlier in the summer that he remained under consideration for the Giants, but the New York Daily News reports he's heard nothing since. That could change after the Giants' secondary was exposed in the season opener.

Giants GM Jerry Reese confirms the team hasn't ruled out the possibility of re-signing S Deon Grant.

Grant was featured in the Giants’ nickel defense last season, and recently said he expects to sign sometime during training camp. If signed, he would be strictly used as an insurance policy.

Free agent S Deon Grant believes the Giants will re-sign him during training camp.

A key cog in New York's oft-used three-safety looks a year ago, Grant isn't ready to retire after 12 seasons and it sounds like he's willing to play for close to the veteran's minimum. Grant played a whopping 79.9 percent of the Giants' defensive snaps in 2011, primarily because they didn't have a nickel corner.

Free agent S Deon Grant has received interest from the Giants, Lions, and Cowboys.

Grant was an average performer in just over 1,000 snaps for the Giants a season ago. He'd likely see a much lesser workload if re-signed. Now 33, he's looking to catch on as a third or fourth safety, but is reportedly in no rush to sign.

Giants re-signed S Deon Grant.

With rookie Tyler Sash getting abused by Greg Olsen in the preseason opener, the Giants made the call to Grant. At age 32, he'll be a steadying force in the locker room and can contribute as a nickel or dime safety. Grant made 72 tackles with one sack and three interceptions for the Giants a year ago.

Free agent S Deon Grant is expected to re-sign with the Giants, a source tells the Star-Ledger.

Grant, 32, had not garnered any known interest on the open market after his contract expired last season. The locker room leader figures to fight for the nickel and dime role he had last season.

The Giants are using S Deon Grant as a "pseudo-linebacker" in nickel packages this season.

Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips stay in on passing downs, but Grant enters alongside Michael Boley as the two nickel "linebackers." MLB Jonathan Goff and SLB Clint Sintim come off the field. Grant had a team-high 11 tackles in the role last week, but it may not last with Keith Bulluck returning from a toe injury. Like Boley, Bulluck is an every-down linebacker.

Giants SS Deon Grant's streak of 144 straight starts was snapped Week 1.

Grant was used in the team's three safety set alongside Kenny Phillips and Antrel Rolle. He's a great backup, but the Giants will be in trouble if Grant gets pressed into a starting role.

Giants signed SS Deon Grant, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year deal.

Grant may not even be a borderline starter at this stage of his career, but he's still a significant upgrade on the coverage-challenged C.C. Brown for the backup safety role. Though the Giants have not expressed outward concern about Kenny Phillips' recovery from knee surgery, the Grant signing suggests that they realize his health is a wild card in 2010.

The Giants are hosting free agent SS Deon Grant on Thursday.

For all of their public optimism that Kenny Phillips (knee surgery) will make a full recovery by training camp, the Giants realize that his return to Pro Bowl form is far from a sure thing. Grant would provide insurance in case Phillips has a setback this summer.

Seahawks released SS Deon Grant.

Grant, 31, had $17 million in salary due over the next three years and his play fell off a cliff last season, so he was always a likely release candidate. The move leaves Seattle with just one surefire starter (CB Marcus Trufant) at the four defensive back positions. Expect the Seahawks to strongly consider Tennessee S Eric Berry if he's available at either of their picks in the top 14.

Seahawks SS Deon Grant will undergo surgery on his injured wrist this winter.

It's worth noting that the Seattle papers have hinted Grant might be cut this offseason. The Seahawks have no other options at strong safety, but the 31-year-old's best days are behind him and missing any OTAs wouldn't help.

Seahawks SS Deon Grant will likely be asked to take a pay cut this offseason, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Grant, who will be 31 in March, is owed $4 million in 2010. He was productive this season, playing in all 16 games and racking up 78 tackles to go with three interceptions.

Deon Grant left in the first quarter of Sunday's game with a strained ligament in his left knee. The free safety did return to finish out the contest.

Grant's leg folded under him while he was trying to make a tackle. Losing him hurt for an already struggling Seattle secondary temporarily, but it boded well for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' receivers.
