Brandon Stokley (concussion, injured reserve) is retiring from football.
Stokley has a long-and-winding concussion history. His latest head injury landed him on injured reserve earlier this month. Stokley knew it meant the end of his career. "I'm glad I played this year because now I know I'm done," Stokley said Thursday. "Had I not played this year, I would have always felt I could have kept playing. I still know I can play but my body just can't go through it anymore." Stokley is one of only 18 receivers in NFL history to play at least 15 seasons. The 37-year-old former fourth-round pick is hanging it up with 397 career catches to his name. His best season came in Peyton Manning's record-setting 2004, where he caught 68 passes for 1,077 yards and 10 touchdowns. Thu, Dec 26, 2013 06:08:00 PM

Ravens placed WR Brandon Stokley on injured reserve with a concussion, ending his season.

RB Bernard Scott was re-signed in a corresponding roster move. Stokley has a long history of concussions, which is what prompted the quick I.R.-trigger just two days after he went down. Stokley's career has been left for dead before, but going on 38 with only 13 catches in six games this season, the longtime slot dynamo has to be near the end. Stokley has 397 lifetime catches.

Ravens WR Brandon Stokley suffered a concussion in Sunday's win over the Vikings.

Coach John Harbaugh said the fact that Stokley has a history of concussions could make it "problematic" for him to suit up in Week 15. Stokley isn't going to play against the Lions. The veteran slot man has 13 catches in six games this season.

Brandon Stokley (thigh) is inactive for Week 9 against the Browns.

Ravens WR Brandon Stokley (thigh) is listed as doubtful for Week 7.

37-year-old Stokley is predictably trending in the wrong direction. He was listed as questionable for Week 6, and did not play. Tandon Doss, Jacoby Jones, and Marlon Brown are now rotating at receiver behind Torrey Smith.

Ravens WR Brandon Stokley (thigh) is questionable for Week 6.

Stokley was re-signed Monday and put in a limited week of practice. With Marlon Brown (thigh) and Jacoby Jones (knee) both tentatively expected to play, he'll likely serve as the No. 5 receiver if he manages to avoid being inactive.

Ravens re-signed WR Brandon Stokley.

Stokley was released on Saturday, but the move was clearly with an eye toward re-signing him on Monday. The slot veteran has nine catches for 79 yards through three games this season. There's no guarantee he'll last through the end of the year on the roster.

Ravens released WR Brandon Stokley.

Stokley is no longer needed following the return of Deonte Thompson. He's also still dealing with a groin injury and not completely healthy. Stokley had nine catches for 79 yards in three games this season. As a vested veteran, his $940,000 salary is fully guaranteed. The Ravens re-signed TE Billy Bajema to replace Stokley on the 53-man roster.

Brandon Stokley (groin, questionable) missed Ravens practice Friday.

Stokley was also questionable/no practice on Friday of last week, and didn't dress against the Bills. He can be dropped in 14-team fantasy leagues.

Brandon Stokley (groin) is inactive for Sunday's Week 4 game at Buffalo.

Stokley was a late addition to the injury report. Expect Tandon Doss to step in as the No. 3 wideout behind Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown.

Brandon Stokley (groin) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Week 4 at Buffalo.

Stokley was a late addition to the injury report. Although he's seeing a decent number of targets, Stokley hasn't been doing much with them.

Brandon Stokley caught four passes for 36 yards in the Ravens' Week 2 win over the Browns.

This is becoming routine; Stokley caught four balls for 34 yards in the opener. At age 37, Stokley is a situational role player without fantasy value.

Brandon Stokley caught four passes for 34 yards in Baltimore's Week 1 loss to the Broncos.

It was an inefficient night for Baltimore's slot receiver, as he could corral just 4-of-10 targets. When he did catch the ball, he looked Slow with a capital S. Stokley's all the receiver-needy Ravens have right now, but there's no reason for him to be rostered in fantasy leagues, outside of perhaps the deepest PPR formats.

ESPN AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley considers Brandon Stokley a "lock" to open the season as Baltimore's slot receiver.

He's already passed Tandon Doss. Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones are the starters, and UDFA Marlon Brown has emerged as the frontrunner for the No. 4 spot. Seventh-round pick Aaron Mellette and LaQuan Williams are candidates to be Nos. 5 and 6, depending on how many wideouts GM Ozzie Newsome elects to keep. Brown is probably the best deep fantasy sleeper of the group.

Brandon Stokley caught three passes for 43 yards in the Ravens' third preseason game against Carolina.

Stokley caught all three passes thrown his way before giving way to the younger Baltimore receivers. Two of Stokley's receptions came on third downs, and both grabs moved the chains. It was the 37-year-old's first action of the preseason and should be all he needs. He's a wild card to be Joe Flacco's new security blanket. We still wouldn't treat Stokley as anything more than a WR5.
