Indianapolis linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Jackson is the Colts' leading tackler and will be sorely missed as Indianapolis attempts to make a playoff push in the AFC South. Jackson can return for the playoffs if Indianapolis qualifies, but his absence for Week 14's matchup against Houston won't help that cause. Even against Houston QB Brock Osweiler, the Colts D/ST is a dicey streaming option in Week 14. Dec 7 - 4:34 PM

With FS Mike Adams (groin) out, CB Darius Butler filled-in at safety in Week 9 against Green Bay.

Butler played well in his new spot, recording an interception in Indianapolis' win over Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Even when Adams returns, Butler could continue to see time at safety moving forward. "As we get into next week, I’m sure that there will be things that we will want to do with Darius back there," said defensive coordinator Ted Monachino. Despite the surprising win at Green Bay, the Colts D/ST is 30th in pass defense and will continue to be a risky fantasy option after a Week 10 bye.
Nov 10 - 11:40 AM

The Indianapolis defense has just eight sacks through six weeks, good for 28th in the NFL.

The Colts are on pace for a mere 21 sacks this season, which would fall well below their underwhelming total of 35 from a year ago. Indianapolis' defense is a liability once again in 2016, a common theme for the Colts in recent years. The Indianapolis defense has allowed 40 or more points 12 times in the 78-game Grigson-Pagano era and has shown little reason to expect improvement. The Colts D/ST is not worth fantasy consideration in Week 7 against Tennessee.
Oct 21 - 8:03 PM

Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles threw for 548 yards and four touchdowns in two 2015 meetings with Indianapolis.

Bortles has six interceptions through three weeks but will look to replicate his past success against the Indianapolis defense. The Colts are coughing up 304.3 passing yards per game, so a repeat performance could be in the cards when the AFC South rivals meet in London. While the Colts D/ST will struggle against the pass in this matchup, Bortles will provide plenty of playmaking opportunities for the Indianapolis defense, making this group a mid-level fantasy option for owners in a pinch.
Sep 30 - 2:39 AM

The Indianapolis secondary will be without cornerbacks Darius Butler and Vontae Davis in Week 1, who are both out with ankle injuries.

Antonio Cromartie, who the Colts signed less than three weeks ago, will start at cornerback when Indianapolis hosts Detroit on Sunday. With the depleted state of the Colts' secondary, Matthew Stafford and the Detroit passing game look primed to explode in this matchup. The Colts D/ST is not on the fantasy radar in Week 1.
Sep 9 - 7:23 PM

The Indianapolis defense will face struggling Tennessee quarterback Zach Mettenberger in Week 17.

Mettenberger threw for just 234 yards on 51 attempts in Week 16, while leading the Titans to six points against Houston. On the season, Mettenberger has thrown six interceptions to just four touchdowns and makes the Colts D/ST an intriguing streaming option in fantasy leagues this week. The Colts have not been strong defensively by any means in 2015, but this matchup boosts them into the streaming conversation for fantasy owners looking for a boom/bust D/ST option in Week 17.

In Week 16, the Indianapolis defense will face the slumping Miami offense that has averaged just 271.2 total yards in the last five weeks.

The Miami offense put up another clunker in Week 15 at San Diego, when they tallied only 231 total yards including just 44 yards on the ground. All parts of the Miami offense have struggled mightily in recent weeks, but the Indianapolis defense is no model of perfection either. The Colts have given up 37.3 points per game over the last three weeks and although the Indianapolis defense forced multiple turnovers in all three of those games, the Colts D/ST still won't be a trustworthy fantasy option on the road in Week 16.

The Indianapolis defense has allowed an astonishing 96 points over the last two weeks.

The Colts are struggling defensively, but have forced nine turnovers over the last four weeks. Week 15 brings a matchup with the Houston backup quarterback T.J. Yates, who will start in place of Brian Hoyer (concussion). Yates has thrown six touchdowns and seven interceptions in nearly five seasons, making the Colts D/ST worth a look as a potential streaming candidate if you're the gambling type.

The Indianapolis Colts travel to Pittsburgh in Week 13 to face the Steelers, who are fourth among NFL offenses in total yardage.

Pittsburgh is coming off an impressive offensive display last week at Seattle, where they racked up 538 total yards, 480 of which came through the air. The Colts and Chuck Pagano are well aware of the challenge facing them on Sunday night, as Pagano told the Indianapolis Star, "Get some good rest. Get your 5-Hour Energy." The Colts D/ST is not a recommended Week 13 fantasy option in this tough matchup.
Sat, Dec 5, 2015 03:08:00 AM

Indianapolis' 29th-ranked pass defense will take on Tampa Bay rookie QB Jameis Winston in Week 12.

Winston is coming off an impressive five touchdown performance in Week 11, and has thrown just two interceptions in his last six outings. The Colts D/ST has forced nine turnovers over the last three weeks, but still has trouble slowing opposing offenses on a regular basis and won't be a startable fantasy option in Week 12.
Thu, Nov 26, 2015 03:07:00 AM

The Indianapolis Colts will enjoy a bye in Week 10 but face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11, who are fifth among NFL offenses with an average of 402.2 total yards per game.

The lack of success from the Indianapolis defense in 2015 in addition to the rough Week 11 matchup makes this group extremely difficult to roster in fantasy leagues at the moment. The fantasy playoff schedule looks good for the Colts D/ST (@ JAX, vs HOU, @ MIA), but this defense likely isn't good enough to make an impact in fantasy leagues down the stretch.
Thu, Nov 12, 2015 12:09:00 AM

The Indianapolis defense is 28th among NFL teams in run defense, allowing 124.9 yards per game this season.

Things have gotten worse recently for the Colts defense, as they have coughed up 146.3 rushing yards per game over their last three contests. Week 9 brings the Denver Broncos to Indianapolis, where Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson will look to take advantage of the Colts deficiencies in defending the run. Denver ran for 160 yards in Week 8 against Green Bay and is likely to have more success on Sunday, leaving the Colts D/ST as an afterthought in fantasy leagues.
Sat, Nov 7, 2015 03:31:00 AM

The Indianapolis Colts travel to Carolina on Monday to face the Panthers and the NFL's leading rushing attack.

The Carolina offense averages 144.7 yards on the ground each week and will be a difficult matchup for the Indianapolis defense that is not reliable in run defense. The Colts D/ST is allowing 122.7 rushing yards per game and 4.2 yards per carry this season, and will not be a viable Week 8 fantasy option.
Thu, Oct 29, 2015 01:29:00 AM

The Indianapolis Colts are 29th in total defense this season, allowing 401.8 total yards per game.

The Colts D/ST has allowed 430.5 total yards per game over the last two weeks as they are having trouble containing opposing offenses. The Indianapolis defense has also done virtually nothing in terms of sacks or forcing turnovers this season, and is a non-factor in fantasy leagues. The Colts D/ST should remain on the waiver wire this week when they host Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
Sat, Oct 24, 2015 12:02:00 AM

The Indianapolis Colts D/ST will not be a viable Week 6 fantasy option as they host the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady and the Patriots offense lead the NFL in total yardage per game, stacking up 423.8 total yards each week, a number that could be even higher if New England hadn't been forced to ease off the gas pedal in recent weeks. The Colts are 28th in the NFL in defense and have just six sacks on the season, making this group a permanent fixture on the fantasy waiver wire.
