Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) will be a game-time decision for Week 3.
Cotchery didn't practice on Friday after being limited earlier in the week. Jason Avant (thigh) is also questionable to play in Sunday night's game against the Steelers, leaving Kelvin Benjamin as a lock for 10-plus targets. Brenton Bersin could see time opposite Benjamin if one of Cotchery or Avant sits, with Philly Brown playing in sub packages. Sep 20 - 4:08 PM

Coach Ron Rivera said he's concerned with Jerricho Cotchery's (hamstring) status for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Steelers.

Cotchery did not practice Friday and will be reevaluated Saturday. If he can't go, we can expect Kelvin Benjamin to get another 2-3 targets. Benjamin was already a strong Week 3 play as he'll see a lot of burnable Steelers CB Ike Taylor.

Jerricho Cotchery (thigh) is questionable for Week 3 against the Steelers.

Cotchery should only be in consideration for fantasy lineups in the deepest of leagues.
Sep 19 - 1:08 PM

Jerricho Cotchery (thigh) was downgraded to did not practice Friday.

Cotchery was added to the injury report Thursday after tweaking his thigh. His status for Week 3 against the Steelers is in question. If he can't play, Cam Newton will lean on Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen more in the red zone.
Sep 19 - 11:52 AM

Jerricho Cotchery was added to the Panthers' injury report Thursday, getting in a limited session with a thigh issue.

Cotchery likely tweaked his thigh in Thursday's practice. It shouldn't hold him out for Week 3, where he'll be a touchdown-dependent WR5, as usual.
Sep 18 - 6:55 PM

Jerricho Cotchery caught 4-of-4 targets for 46 yards in the Panthers' Week 2 win over the Lions.

Cotchery has now efficiently secured all eight of his targets on the season, although he has only 78 receiving yards. Cotchery did convert a two-point conversion in Sunday's victory. He's a low-upside WR4/5 in fantasy leagues.
Sep 14 - 5:52 PM

Jerricho Cotchery caught 4-of-4 targets for 32 yards in the Panthers' Week 1 win over Tampa Bay.

Cotchery was efficient, which is his calling card. He worked in two-receiver sets across from Kelvin Benjamin, but both Benjamin and Greg Olsen had a lot more plays called for them. Cotchery is a low-upside WR4/5 in fantasy leagues. We wouldn't anticipate Cotchery becoming usable in fantasy lineups until owners encounter pretty severe bye-week crunches.
Sep 7 - 7:30 PM

Panthers WR Jerricho Cotchery was held without a catch in the Panthers' third preseason game.

Cotchery has only one grab this preseason despite playing all three of the Panthers' games. Kelvin Benjamin is clearly the No. 1 wide out in Carolina, and Cotchery is likely behind Greg Olsen in the pecking order as well. Cotchery's red-zone ability gives him weekly upside, but he will be hard to trust as a week-to-week contributor.
Aug 22 - 10:47 PM

Coach Ron Rivera confirmed Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery, and Jason Avant are the Panthers' top three receivers.

It's no surprise. Tiquan Underwood is competing for a situational deep threat role, along with Tavarres King. Brenton Bersin, Marvin McNutt, and Kealoha Pilares are also in the mix for reserve spots. There's been plenty of talk about how Cam Newton has "nobody to throw to," but with Kelvin Benjamin playing far better than expected this summer, and Cotchery and Avant's reliable hands, there's reason to believe this year's receiver group is better than last season's. Newton is a recommended value pick at his current late-7th round ADP.
Aug 12 - 12:19 PM

Jerricho Cotchery is expected to play in the slot.

The Panthers also have lead-footed Jason Avant, who can only play in the slot. They're going to need Cotchery to show more than he ever has, lining up in multiple positions and leading the unit while raw Kelvin Benjamin matures. We're not expecting it to be a very productive passing game. Cotchery will be a weak WR5 type in fantasy despite his big opportunity.
Jun 2 - 9:41 AM

Jerricho Cotchery's deal with the Panthers is for five years and $8.015 million.

The deal includes a $2.25 million signing bonus, and pays Cotchery a total of $3.5 million in 2014. The final three years are "voidable," and exist for the sole purpose of spreading out Cotchery's cap hit. It's an indication of how truly dire Carolina's cap situation is. For the moment, Cotchery is Cam Newton's No. 1 receiver.
Mar 20 - 5:56 PM

Panthers agreed to terms with WR Jerricho Cotchery, formerly of the Steelers, on a two-year contract.

Cotchery chooses the Panthers over the Steelers, likely because he's sees a bigger opportunity in Carolina. He now heads a barren receiving corps that also features Marvin McNutt and Tavarres King. Of course, the 32-year-old (in June) Cotchery is best suited as a No. 3 option and we still expect GM Dave Gettleman to add talent to the position through the draft or trade market. It's not a very sexy signing. Even Steve Smith, who was the Panthers' No. 1 option last year, could only manage a 64-745-4 line.
Mar 20 - 12:48 PM

ESPN's Ed Werder stated on SportsCenter Thursday that free agent Jerricho Cotchery is "close to a decision," and is "right now leaning" toward signing with the Panthers.

Cotchery turns 32 in June, but would at least give Carolina's receiver corps some credibility. The Panthers are currently bereft of NFL receiving experience. Much more interestingly, Werder stated he believes the Panthers have already "internally" discussed trying to trade for DeSean Jackson, and "might entertain the idea" if the Eagles' draft-pick asking price is reasonable.
Mar 20 - 12:26 PM

The Charlotte Observer reports free agent Jerricho Cotchery is deciding between the Panthers and Steelers.

Whoever scrounges up the most cap space wins. Cotchery would be frightfully close to the top of the depth chart in Carolina, but it would only be temporary. Going on 32, Cotchery has 120 total catches over the past four seasons.
Mar 18 - 4:20 PM

The Panthers will host free agent Jerricho Cotchery on Monday.

Carolina lost out to Indianapolis on Hakeem Nicks, and is now eyeing a journeyman slot receiver who turns 32 in June. The Steelers want to re-sign Cotchery, but they're in even worse salary cap condition than the Panthers.
