Panthers coach Ron Rivera said WR Jerricho Cotchery (ankle) will not play Week 4.
Rivera said Cotchery is on target to return following the team's Week 5 bye. Devin Funchess played 31 snaps and saw four targets with Cotchery sidelined on Sunday. He could see a similar role against the Bucs next week. Sep 28 - 1:14 PM

Panthers declared WR Jerricho Cotchery, LB Luke Kuechly, S Dean Marlowe, RB Brandon Wegher, OT Daryl Williams, WR Kevin Norwood and DT Colin Cole inactive for Week 3 against the Saints.

The Panthers were hopeful Cotchery could play through his high-ankle sprain early in the week, but he was ruled out on Friday. Kuechly (concussion) was ruled out early Sunday morning.
Sep 27 - 11:34 AM

Jerricho Cotchery (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 3.

The Panthers don't think Cotchery's high-ankle sprain is overly serious, but he was never expected to play after not practicing all week. Devin Funchess will see an expanded role with Cotchery out.
Sep 25 - 8:04 PM

Panthers WR Jerricho Cotchery (ankle) is not practicing Thursday.

The Panthers were hopeful Cotchery could play through his high-ankle sprain, but that was always unlikely. He will sit this weekend.
Sep 24 - 11:26 AM

Jerricho Cotchery (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Cotchery suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 2, which is typically a multi-week injury. It should leave more snaps for Devin Funchess in three-wide sets.
Sep 23 - 2:40 PM

Coach Ron Rivera said WR Jerricho Cotchery suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 2.

Cotchery played through the injury for several snaps, but was forced from the game again after it stiffened. Rivera said team doctors hope Cotchery can play this week, but high-ankle sprains notoriously linger. Cotchery has five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown through two weeks.

Sep 21 - 12:53 PM

Jerricho Cotchery caught 4-of-6 targets for 45 yards and a touchdown Week 1 against the Jaguars.

Cotchery found a wide open hole in the Jaguars coverage for a seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter. It was the Panthers' only offensive touchdown of the day. Cotchery is the Panthers' most dependable receiver, and there is a reasonable chance he leads the wide receivers in targets this season. He is a very low-upside option, however, and should not be starting in anything but the deepest leagues against the Texans next week.
Sep 13 - 5:18 PM

Jerricho Cotchery caught four balls for 38 yards before leaving the Panthers' third preseason game with a groin injury.

Cotchery is coming off a painfully-slow 2014, but he's Carolina's most-trustworthy wide receiver at this point with Kelvin Benjamin on I.R. Cotchery was the Panthers' chain mover behind Greg Olsen in this one, with inconsistent burners Corey Brown and Ted Ginn working the perimeter. The extent of Cotchery's injury is uncertain. The Panthers can't afford to lose him, too.
Aug 28 - 9:26 PM

The Charlotte Observer believes Jerricho Cotchery is entering training camp on the roster bubble.

If second-round pick Devin Funchess seizes a starting job and Corey "Philly" Brown earns a role as a situational deep threat in three-receiver sets, Cotchery could be the odd man out. The Panthers also have Ted Ginn to dress on game days for his special teams value after signing him to a two-year, $4.2 million deal. Cotchery, 33, is owed $1.5 million in salary and bonuses.
Jul 29 - 1:37 PM

Jerricho Cotchery is not expected to make a significant contribution this year.

The Panthers badly needed to upgrade opposite Kelvin Benjamin this offseason. They did it, using a second-round pick on Devin Funchess and adding Ted Ginn as a situational deep threat. Corey Brown has also made a leap by almost all accounts and Greg Olsen is back. It leaves the 33-year-old Cotchery as a mentor and low-upside slot receiver a la Jason Avant.
Jun 22 - 8:39 AM

Jerricho Cotchery caught three passes for 25 yards in Saturday's Divisional Round loss at Seattle.

Cotchery flukily caught 10 touchdowns for the Steelers in 2013, earning himself an $8M contract from the receiver-needy Panthers in free agency. He predictably busted, catching just 48 balls for 580 yards and one touchdown while playing in 15 regular season games. Now he'll turn 33 in June and is best served as a No. 3 or 4 wideout. The Panthers badly need an upgrade at Kelvin Benjamin's bookend.
Jan 11 - 12:55 AM

Jerricho Cotchery caught three passes for 14 yards in the Panthers' Wild Card win over the Cardinals.

He also rushed one time for five yards and was targeted five times on the afternoon. Cotchery doesn't make any wow plays but offers a reliable set of hands on the outside. He'll play a backseat role in the Divisional Round.
Jan 3 - 8:37 PM

Jerricho Cotchery caught three passes for 25 yards in the Panthers' Week 17 win over the Falcons.

He caught all three of his targets. Cam Newton attempted just 16 passes on the day with the Panthers smoking Atlanta. Cotchery is efficient in catching balls that come his way, but he doesn't do much after-the-catch. He'll be a chain-mover for the Panthers in the Wild Card Round against the Cardinals.
Sun, Dec 28, 2014 09:10:00 PM

Jerricho Cotchery secured 5-of-5 targets for 46 yards in the Panthers' Week 16 win over the Browns.

Particularly early in the game, Cotchery was a first-down machine on a day where Carolina's passing attack largely sputtered. The Panthers will need Cotchery to continue to play efficient football when they play the Falcons for the NFC South title in Week 17.
Sun, Dec 21, 2014 04:17:00 PM

Jerricho Cotchery secured 5-of-5 targets for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' Week 15 win over the Bucs.

Cotchery caught his first touchdown of the season from two yards out in the third quarter. Although Cotchery is still capable of being a useful possession threat, he is No. 3 in line for targets on the Panthers, and sometimes No. 4 depending on how heavily utilized the running backs are in a given week. Cotchery will be a low-ceiling WR4/5 in Week 16 against the Browns.
