Jets signed OG Stephen Peterman, formerly of the Lions.
31-year-old Peterman hasn't missed a start since the 2009 season, but his performance has gradually declined and he's no longer an effective NFL starter. The Jets are signing Peterman because they're desperate on the offensive line after losing Matt Slauson and Brandon Moore to free agency, and failing to emerge from the draft's first two rounds without a legitimate interior starter. Free agent OG Stephen Peterman left Monday's Jets visit without a deal.

The Jets extended Peterman a contract offer, but he's going to continue shopping his wares. Peterman turned 31 in January and is coming off a rough season.

The Jets will host free agent OG Stephen Peterman on Monday.

They're expected to sign him if Peterman checks out medically. Released by the Lions in early February, Peterman had generated no reported interest to this point in free agency. Peterman is 31 years old. He has a history of foot injuries and struggled in 2012, so we wouldn't rule out a last-minute snag.

Lions informed RG Stephen Peterman of his release.

The move clears $3.2 million in salary cap space. Peterman started every game at right guard for the cap-strapped Lions in each of the last three years. But he's 31, was owed $2.65 million in base salary, and allowed a league-high (among guards) 36 quarterback hurries in 2012. The Lions do have depth on the offensive line in talented prospect Riley Reiff, but he profiles better as a tackle. By cutting Peterman so early in the offseason, the Lions are also off the hook for his $500,000 March roster bonus and $100,000 reporting bonus. He may resurface on a veteran's minimum deal in free agency.

The Lions are expected to consider releasing RG Stephen Peterman and C Dominic Raiola this offseason.

Raiola is 34 with a $4.05 million base salary and $250,000 roster bonus. Peterman is owed $600K in offseason bonuses, in addition to a $2.65 million salary. The Lions are expected to consider "revamping," their offensive line for 2013, particularly on the interior. Raiola seems the more likely cap casualty.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman revealed that he played last season with a torn muscle on the ball of his right foot.

The injury occurred between his big toe and second toe. He suffered the injury in Week 2, but played through it. "It just felt like the bottom of my foot ripped," Peterman said. "It sucked." Doctors initially believed the injury could be a Lisfranc fracture, but it wasn't. Peterman says he's now 100 percent.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman did not require surgery for the right foot injury that caused him "constant pain" throughout the 2010 season.

Peterman was seen "moving well" in Monday's player-organized team workout and says he's currently pain free. The 29-year-old was Detroit's best offensive lineman in 2009 before his performance diminished markedly last season. If he returns at 100 percent, the Lions' run blocking would get a big lift.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman reportedly played the 2010 season through "constant foot pain."

Peterman didn't miss a start, but this may explain his decline in performance. Arguably the Lions' top lineman in 2009, he might've been the worst in 2010. Peterman is due just $2.9 million entering his age-29 season in 2011, so he'll be back as a starter. An offseason surgery may be in order, though.

The NFL has rescinded two $5,000 fines levied against Lions RG Stephen Peterman for two chop block penalties in Week 9 against the Jets.

After reviewing tape the league decided that both chop block penalties were incorrectly called and that Peterman would get his $10,000 back. It's good to see the league admitting it made a mistake, even if it comes six weeks after the fact.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman left Sunday's game in the second half with a foot injury.

The Lions don't comment on injuries, so we don't have much of an idea about Peterman or Jahvid Best. Peterman is one of the top run-blocking guards in football. The Lions are now one of the more injury-ravaged teams in the league.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz remains high on injury-prone RG Stephen Peterman.

Upgrading left guard will be a priority this offseason, but Lions coaches grew more impressed by Peterman's work after watching video from the 2009 season. Schwartz even blames RT Gosder Cherilus' late-season struggles on the loss of Peterman's steadying influence next to him.

Lions placed RG Stephen Peterman (ankle surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

By putting him on I.R. with seven games left, the Lions are essentially admitting that Peterman's ankle surgery was extensive. He probably could've came back from a "scope" in a few weeks. Peterman, 28 in January, signed a new five-year deal last offseason. He will likely return as a starter in 2010.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman's ankle injury may prove season ending.

Peterman may need surgery on his right ankle, which would probably cost him Detroit's final six games. He's already been ruled out for Week 11. "He's seeing a specialist and it doesn't look good," coach Jim Schwartz said Friday.

Lions RG Stephen Peterman suffered a potentially serious ankle injury in Sunday's loss to Minnesota.

There's been no discussion of Peterman going on I.R. yet, but coach Jim Schwartz wasn't optimistic about Peterman at his Monday press conference. The Lions will install Daniel Loper at right guard until Peterman gets back.
